I am a repeat offender. ( AKA: I've bought 10 versions of the same game)

Just to add to my previous comment, I'd also consider buying again if it's cheaper than buying DLC for the version i own. A great example being skyrim, though it hasn't hit my price point yet.

Occasionally I'll buy a physical and digital of the same game to keep the physical sealed. Like with RPGs. But not very often. I've also bought several digital versions of old games I own for convenience.

Majora's Mask N64
Majora's Mask GCN collectors edition
Majora's Mask Wii VC

and soon:

Majora's Mask 3D
Majora's Mask limited edition n3DS

Hm. I think I've bought Kirby's adventure and Super Mario bros on every Nintendo console they've been released on aaaaaaaand idk I got two copies of halo wars, and also two of the kingdom hearts remake (and I owned the original) I think that's it for me though

Chrono Trigger (SNES, PS1, DS, VC)
Super Mario 1 (NES, Mario All-Stars, Mario Deluxe, GBA Classic, VC, Wii Mario Anniversary)

Those are just the more extreme examples. There are a LOT of others like this in my collection.

Why buy multiple digital versions?

Most of the digital versions were free on PS+ and most of the XBL stuff was won from Capcommunity streams.

RE1, RE2, RE3, RE5 were all free on PS+.

RECVX on PS3 and RE5 on XBL were from winning codes on the capcom live streams.

We've all done this.

I bought Phantasy Star Online as....

1. Japanese DC Import
2. Domestic DC release
3. Episode 2 DC Japanese Import
4. Episode 2 DC Domestic release
5. Gamecube Domestic release
6. Xbox Domestic release
7. PC version.

The most I've ever done is bought a few PS1 classics of the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro Series (which I no longer own in disc form) when they were on sale for $1 each.

I was terrible with Mass Effect 2.

1) Original 360 copy, that I played so many times I apparently burnt out the disc, as it simply stopped being readable eventually, on either mine or my friends 360's, and my 360 itself never had issues with any other games.

2) Replacement 360 copy

3) Collectors Edition, for bonus content and cool extras.

4) 360 digital copy, so I didn't need to swap out the disc.

5) PS3 copy, for my fiancée's house.

6) A second PS3 copy, for my house.

7) PC version, for the gaming PC I intend to build in a couple if years time, so I can use mods.

And then ME3 came out and was so incredibly stupidly written, with such a disappointing ending, that it's soured me on the whole series to the point that I just can't play either ME1 or 2, even now.

I'll get over it eventually, but gods damn Mass Effect 3 was such a massively disappointing, shoddily made game.

I was going to talk shit about your habit, but then I remembered that I have a binder full of baseball cards... featuring only Jose Canseco. :-(

I have a fun one of these. I own every single console or handheld version of FF IV. It's not even one of my favorite FF games but I keep collecting it.

I do this with games I love. No shame. Recently bought gtav on ps4. Wife's like you already have it. I'm like awww yea sooooogood.gif

I've bought:

Final Fantasy IV SNES
Final Fantasy IV GBA
Final Fantasy IV DS
Final Fantasy IV PS1
Final Fantasy IV PSP

I've resisted buying any after that, but every time it comes out on a new platform, I want it so bad.

I won't count my Steam games, but I've double (or triple) dipped once or thrice.

Resident Evil, Eternal Sonata, Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game, Guacamelee, Mirror's Edge, Batman AS and AC, etc.

The list goes on, but you get my point.

I have for a lot of FFVII stuff.

I have 2 copies of the PSX FFVII, PSOne Classic on PS3/Vita, a PSOne Classic version on my girlfriend's PS3 from back before we lived together (so I could play it at her house if I got a wild hair up my ass to do so), the PC version, and I plan to get the PS4 version.

I have a regular Crisis Core and an unopened foil cover copy.

For Advent Children I have the original DVD release, the deluxe edition DVD release, the Japanese Blu-Ray, and the American Blu-Ray.

I've done this quite a bit. I have two copies of Fire Emblem Rekka No Ken, two copies of Pokemon SoulSilver (one English one Japanese), three copies of Smash 4 (3DS Japanese, 3DS English, Wii U), two copies of SoulCalibur IV and V (360 and PS3), Sonic Adventure three times (Gamecube, XBL, Steam), Sonic Adventure 2 twice (Gamecube, XBL), the Walking Dead (Vita, Steam), Final Fantasy IV three times (SNES, GBA, DS, and I still want the PSP version lol).....and others. The most notable to me, though, is the fact that I somehow ended up with two copies of Poker Night 2 (PSN, Steam). This is notable to me because I don't even know how to play poker.

Remakes get a pass in my book. Incremental upgrades are different. I'm guilty of buying SF4 on Xbox, then SSF4 on PS3 and 3DS. Also Tekken Tag Tournament 2 on both PS3 and Wii U.

I've owned nearly every available version of Final Fantasy. Only ones I know I've missed are MSX, 3DS (w/ FF Explorers) and the various Japan-only phone ports.

Damn. The most I've done is:

Persona 4
Persona 4 Golden

MGS3
MGS3: Subsistence

I borrowed Final Fantasy X and X-2, then bought the HD versions so I guess that doesn't count. If we're counting different iterations of fighting games:

Blazblue Continuum Shift
Blazblue Continuum Shift Extend (PS3 and Vita)
Blazblue Chrono Phantasma
Blazblue Chrono Phantasma Extend (when it comes out)

I might also buy Dark Souls 2 on the PS4 even though I've already played the shit out of it if only for the better graphics and all the DLC I missed out on.

EDIT: Oh and DMC4 and DMC4SE when that comes out.

BROTHER

I have issues. If I like a game, I will keep buying it instead of buying something new to try. Most recently, Dead or Alive 5.

DoA5:
360 retail
360 digital
PS3 retail
PS3 digital (via PS+ sub, to be fair)

DoA5+
Vita digital

DoA5U
360 retail
360 digital
PS3 retail

DoA5LR
XB1 retail pre-order

You poor, poor, poor man
obviously not financially
Then again this is exactly my bro with this game, the only repeat offence I can think of is GTA V 360 and soon to be PS4.

I own Resident Evil a few times actually
Resident Evil PSX
Resident Evil DC PSX
Resident Evil DC Digital PSN
Resident Evil GCN
Resident Evil HD PS4 digital and PS3 as you get both
It just a fantastic game.
I own Tomb Raider a few times too and the MGS games

People do this every year with Call Of Duty.

*Grabs coat and runs even though someone has probably beaten him to it a while back*

I own the Steam, Wii and iOS versions of World of Goo.

I also have the N64, DS and Wii VC versions of Mario 64.

That's about as deep as I go I think.

I purchased 4 versions of Outrun 2:
Outrun 2 (xbox)
Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast (PS2)
Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast (PSP)
Outrun Online Arcade (XBLA)
There are some differences, but essentially the same game.

I also bought Streets of Rage 2 on Master System, Megadrive, Wii Virtual Console, Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

No regrets on any of those.

I'm not sure if this count, but I brought KOF XIII 6 times: 2 copy for PS3, 360 copy, PSN, LIVE, Steam.

When the game was first released, I originally just brought a copy for each the PS3 and 360 along with all the DLCs. I ended up buying another PS3 version, used, for a friend at $6, thanks to the power up rewards card and coupons. Digital versions of the game for each console were brought so I did not have to carry discs whenever I went to my local scene. Steam version was brought for the climax changes in the hope of the online being better on console.

This thread needs pics from the ones who have with multiple physical copies of the same game.

I do this a lot with Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy... I think my worst single game is Metal Gear Solid 3:

trMm5gf.jpg

Seven retail copies of the same game... all purchased day one at full price... good thing I love the game! I must have four or five copies of MGS and MGS2 as well, counting digital copies... Of course, I've got every MGS game released in NA; I recently noticed that I have two copies of Metal Gear AC!D (don't know how that happened) and I own a Japanese copy of Peace Walker just because...

On purpose or by accident? Xenoblade was on purpose (regular and red CC Pro Bundle), I suppose Pikmin was for the new play control ports control scheme. There was also Mr.Driller Drill Spirits as I actually wanted Club Nintendo points for it (first copy came without) and need a spare case for a cart only copy of Another Code.

Accidents are more Steam bundle comes with games I own elsewhere (e.g. World of Goo, various Bit.Trip - I'm tempted to get Bit.Trip complete on Wii for the bonus CD), or the same game multiple times.

Street Fighter fans are mindless sheeple suckling on the sweaty teats of Capcom

SSF4: AE (PS3)
USF4 (PS3, PC)

Gamers are our own worst enemy.

Eh, if you really like a game or series I don't see why not. I own all three Mass Effect games on both PC and Xbox 360 and will absolutely buy a trilogy collection once it inevitably comes to XB1/PS4.

I mentioned this in another thread recently.

KOTOR for XBOX
KOTOR for PC
KOTOR for Mac
KOTOR for PC on Steam
KOTOR for iOS

I've never even come close to beating the game.

I bought diablo 2 a whole bunch of times because of broken discs, and WoW several times for Recruit-a-friend bonuses for myself, but... I dunno. Some games i will buy cross platform. Dark souls is one of them, so is Skyrim and borderlands 2. I'm also willing to buy games in bulk if they're cheap enough on steam and it makes sense, ie; Terraria and Castle Crashers, for use with friends.

Either way I've done this many many times, and even bought games on systems I dont even even own just to have the satisfaction of owning it.

I have a problem, and It's buying the same game over and over again with every new release.

Most notably the Resident Evil franchise has done this to me and I love to be their eager little masochistic plaything because it makes me feel good.

I am the same. I even bought this (not my image)

Z0076636.jpg

I have lost track of how many times, on how many different consoles I have bought resident evil games.

bmIVf8U5hFw9G.gif

Super Mario Bros.
NES
All Stars
Deluxe
Virtual Console
25th Anniversary

Sonic
Genesis
GameCube
XBLA
PSN
Genesis collection 360

Resident Evil 4
GameCube
Wii
360

Probably some more but I doubt anything else tops the 5 for Mario and Sonic.

Is it like this?

One for consumption
One for collection
One to lend to someone

I don't double dip unless i lost access to that game.
