Dalton - Best Bond

I've never seen the Dalton or Brosnan Bond films. Need to rectify that.

Tomorrow Never Dies is my favorite Bond film, so make sure to watch it. I really feel that elements such as: 1) the intro plot about terrorism and standoff surgical strikes and 2) the overall plot about media control, clickbait headlines and public manipulation, were way ahead of their time (this movie is pre-9/11) and mark my words- much like Dalton's Living Daylights, don't be surprised if this movie has a better reception looking back than it ever had when it was new.

Tomorrow Never Dies is very good in setting up its story and idea, but there are some serious flaws in the movie. But the whole media thing is absolutely terrific and strangely accurate when you give it some thought. The World is Not Enough is not terrible, but not really good either and Die Another Day is enjoyable for all the wrong reasons. Having recently watched the movie I enjoyed the movie really a lot because of how completely stupid it is.

Basically he's Craig 1.0, or another way of looking at it, his portrayal is what I always saw Craig's Bond maturing into with seasoning. His films came 15 years sooner than the audience was ready for, but if he came along now I think he'd get the same adoration that Craig has generally gotten.

I personally think Living Daylights is one of the top 5-6 films. License to Kill wasnt so much a spy movie as it was a revenge thriller, but Dalton did a great job playing a rogue agent, which Craig has basically played for most of his films.

They're really good, even if LtK takes place in Florida the whole time. Would have loved to seen Dalton in more.

It wasn't rated R initially for drugs. It was for violence. They trimmed the violence back and got a PG-13.

PG and PG-13 movies at that time where way more violent and had nudity then todays PG and PG-13 rated movies

I recently rewatched The Living Daylight and it had aged quite well.
It's like a solid 80s action movie, I enjoyed it.

I dislike most of Moore's movies even if I can enjoy the camp sometimes. Lazenby was alright. Brosnan would be higher on my list if he had more than one movie, the top 3 are mostly gold.

Receding hairline, nose too big, chin too small, chin-dimple too far past the ass-looking threshold, haircut is too side-puffy, eyes are asymmetrical, beard-shadow is too dark.

The worst Bond for me would be Brosnan. So smarmy and fug. His tenure was only good for the "World is Not Enough" and "Tomorrow Never Dies" opening song.

Both are some of my favourite Bond movies. Also Timothy Dalton is a good 007.

Love License to Kill. And the opening beats to the theme tune is what I hear first whenever I think of Bond. Shame Dalton couldn't do more, he was fantastic.

I agree, this theme is incredible.

But I also love The Living Daylights by A-Ha.

Watched The Living Daylights last night. It had been a very long time since I'd seen it, so I had forgotten most of it. I thought it was damn good. Will have to check out License to Kill soon as well.

Very very very few fans ever pick Brosnan as their favorite. At this point the only Bond with less fans than Brosnan would be Lazenby.

License to Kill is amazing. A top 3 Bond movie IMO.

Dalton was a great Bond saddled with two uneven (if solid and very good in places) films that still retained elements of humour from Moore era that didn't mesh too well with the more serious tone and grit of Dalton and much of the action.

It's a shame as I feel we never saw Dalton given the right script/tone to really shine but there's plenty of moments in the films you can sense what might have been.

Gotta love the tanker sequence in Licence to Kill though and the sequence from Living Daylights completely lifted from the film for Uncharted 3.

Brosnan is great. Not my favourite but maybe third on my list. He's a good Bond hampered by a couple of disappointing movies.

I watched Tomorrow never dies last night inspired by this thread. Brosnan definitely nails the suave part and the oneliners flow effortlessly, my big problem with him personally is after Bourne and Craig-Bond, he looks so pathetic in the fight scenes( so did Moore). Connery and Craig, even though the former didnt have the benefit of modern fight choreography, absolutely look like two guys capable of clearing a room of thugs, so does Lazenby who I think is a bit underrated. Brosnan though, I just cant take him seriously as a legitimate physical threat.

living daylights is hands down my favourite bond film. it has everything you'd want apart from a truly great villain, arguably. but maryam d'abo <3

licence to kill is sort of like the quantum of solace to living daylights' casino royale. watchable but not great.
