I buy way too much stupid bullshit

By far my main offender for impulse buys is gaming deals. If I see any game that has been reviewed at least moderately well and is 30 bucks or less I just always convince myself to buy it. Between PSN and Steam I probably have 200ish games I have either never played or tried once after buying on sale just to then forget about

PSN and Steam. I do not approve.
Do you realize how beautiful and harmonical your room would be if those 200 games were all physical boxes, neatly arranged on shelves in your room.

You fucked up bad. Sorry but is the truth.

Ouch. That is pretty shit.
You just need to think before you buy and just buy quality stuff.

Like VagrantStory, you can get one in good condition on ebay for ~100$
Or Suikoden2, you definitely can get that under 200.
Parasite Eve is not very expensive, nor is SyphonFilter. Unless you aim for a good condition original release.

Yeah - I used to be a HUGE game collector back in the day. Had some real rarities: Trip World for GameBoy, Cubivore for GCN, Haunting Ground for PS2, all the big name SNES RPGs, etc.

About 900 games total. I had to quit an older job once, and lived off selling that collection for some time. It was an experience.

....

With that said, the crap I bought is all stuff I'll use. Even the Roseanne DVDs and Buffy board game.

Still, best for me to lay low from a fiscal standpoint. Looks like I've got a TON of comics to read, and monster movies to watch in the meantime.

If you got the money. Why not? You are helping the economy. :)

I'm at an age now where I'd rather help my wallet. I make decent money and my expenses are low, all things considered. I want my bank account to reflect that rather than surround myself with more media.

There's no better feeling than having a bank account full of "fuck you money" and I'm going to just sit and hoard that up. If I going to collect something, why not collect money?
Spend money on making more money. Nothing better than making that $ working for yourself.

The toughest part of that will be going through a few weeks or a month or two NOT having something dropped in your mail. A new package arriving and getting to open that is addictive as hell.

This addiction used to be pretty bad for me. I'm still not out of it but I'm not anymore expecting to have something new every day or two. This week I've had stuff on shopping carts every day but I've always managed to delete the contents before placing an order. Currently still waiting for 3 or 4 packages to arrive sometime in future though.

I'm horrible with addictions. I'm sooooo glad I managed to completely stay away from any sort of drugs and smoking, and I managed to quit alcohol completely almost 20 years ago. I'm still terrible with eating habits, bying habits and all kinds of bad habits. But one thing I've been clear now for four complete months is physical and online slot machines, so that's something I've been able to shake away, at least for now.

Buying things gives you a dopamine hit. Its addicting. This is why you see so many people on here buying 100x more games than they actually play.

Treat it like an addiction. Find something else to give you a happiness boost. Stick to not spending money and monitor your craving for it.

Every time you want to buy something stupid, why not buy one stock share of a company you don't know much about? Come back in a year and see how you did!

You're absolutely right. I'm fairly decent at quitting my addictions. Always have to do it cold turkey like a band aid. I've gotten off of drugs, quit smoking cigarettes, gone keto, etc all with the same logic.

Time to supplement that shit with weight lifting or something

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
I'm so bad with money and I spend it on dumb shit instead of saving it and I'm Jewish!

Now I want to get a Switch Lite especially since I found out Cold Steel 3 and 4 are coming to it.

It's easy to fall in that trap, especially those first few years of being in a real career and having true disposable income for the first time. Thankfully those years are well behind me and we've long been focused on saving for retirement and not acquiring too much clutter to deal with when that day comes since we want to retire abroad/travel around.

I give myself a monthly budget for how much I spend on stuff just for fun. I don't have to strictly stick to it but it just helps me track how much I'm spending.

Man, lifestyle creep is a real thing, I got a solid job right after graduating with a bachelor's degree in CS and damn I spend a lot of money on food now. It's quite stupid but also it's kinda alright I mean YOLO and feeling good is important. I'll probably be fine in the long run. Except if I lose my job because of the old 'rona, in which case I am royally fucked. Hoping for the best.

I tried doing that but I always come up with one excuse or another. "Oh if I overspend this month, I'll underspend next month, etc"

I always have to go all or nothing on everything I do. I'm too dumb to work with moderation ha
