Well I have visited American on 10 occasions now, Loved NY, SF, and Louisville. Didn't like Miami, LA or Seattle actually Seattle was okay. As for freedom the most important freedom is being able to legally drink yourself into a stupor, something us Europeans, well the British and Germans are great at. In Europe its legal at 18 States 21. That’s all the information I needed to decided where 'd rather live. Hey simple things for simple minds. It also shows some of the warps laws they have in the States, want a Hand Gun that can blow brains out from 100 metres, sorry I mean American yards (what ever they are) here you go you trustworthy 16 yr old. Want a Stella, hmmm sorry son not till your 21.

Anyway I need to SF again, oh by the way I'm married with a kid so its not cause of that.
If you want to bash the US for gun laws, at least get the laws right, you fuckin' douche.
:p

Hooker 16! what countries are that low. Germany is 18 I've just come back, Belgium is 18, Spain is 18 not sure about the Netherlands but last time I was there is was certaintly 18. France has a 16 yr old policy but I thought that was for resturants not Bars
My country, Holland is 16. Belgium and Germany as well I thought.

But there's a small hitch though. Beer, Wine and the likes are available to you at 16. Hard liquer like Cognac and Vodka are 18+

But that's only with selling the stuff. No cop is going to give you a hard time if you drink beer on 14, or whiskey on 16. Just as long as you stay sober that is :p

I believe Denmark has 15 as the legal drinking age, not too sure about that though

If you want to buy a house in England it cost's a bomb, a brick house that could be considered a shack (maybe not that bad but 2 bedroom terrace house) in the states is like a 100 grand (which would be about $170,000).

I noticed when I went America the last time about 3 years ago that Americans don't go out to drink and get pissed, but they go out to eat (no offence to fat people), I mean im sure theres a drinking culture but nothing like in England.

I love living in America just little things like how the 'garbage man' has his own road to go around the back of the house instead of on the front and stuff. This is when I lived in a place called Indian Point in Florida. Like a petrol station over there is like the equivilant to a super market over here, like things are much bigger.

Oh yeah and i'll be going Ibiza this year so the bloke who said we live to go to spain was sort of right!

Funny how Canadians consider part of the national identity to be that we're heavy drinkers. Sorry, no. Go to Europe. Go to Prague. They do it RIGHT. Or wrong. Yeah, wrong. They're fucking alcoholics over there.

A mate (Australian/Dutch) and I (Australian/Greek) took some Americans night clubbing a week or so ago. One strange thing is they thought we were gay because we greeted each other with a hug. Once they got over it the chicks thought it was cool but said if two guys did that in America everyone would think they were gay.

Is that true?

And even i am moderately surprised
I like the way London is more expensive than Tokyo now! I've been out of England for 4 1/2 years, the prices here haven't changed in all that time, yet all of a sudden i need to have an organ removed to eat the simplest of meals or have a few pints in London.

(I'm going back in March - starting to save now! ;) )

You're right, it's a cultural thing. I refuse to hug another dude! Not because of people thinking I'm gay or anything but.. umm.. I just don't want to.

The only time male hugging is acceptable is when someone dies or you win a big sporting event.

So extreme empathy or extreme elation.

Varies culture to culture. Some places not hugging is rude. Some places guys hold hands... Which seems uncomfortable looking back. :lol

I went Italy not long ago. Didnt really like it as a place to live IMO. Italy is great for a holiday however. :)

We don't really chase after hookers and smoke weed 24/7 like most countries think we do though............well i do know at most places you can order your weed from a menu :lol

I went to WAGs boutique and all I got was a sniff
I prefer the middle-east thank you. Dubai is so fucking amazing. It has everything. I lived in England for 12 years and thought it was amazing. After moving to Dubai, I thinkl that England is a shithole. Ive never been to America, but I would like to see what life is like in there, but thats when I get bored of Dubai.

Isn't Dubai the place where they didn't have alcohol or hot skimpy-clothed women at the GP?!

That's an automatic "HELL NO!!" dude :lol

Wou should all move to Denmark btw.

You can buy bear/booze at gas stations, supermarkets etc when you're 15 - in clubs, bars etc when you're 18 and we've got some of the best looking girls in the world (Danish, Swedish people really care about their looks) A US friend here in Aarhus once said that he thought he'd come to Hollywood (of course without all the plastic surgery shit)

- oh and the winters suck - that the only thing I hate about denmark..

Who gives a damn where you live. As long as you're with your dearest and feel good.

People are greedy everywhere. Politicians don't stay in touch with reallity. What else is new?

The grass is sometimes greener on the other side but not magical.

And the rest. I'm looking at buying a 2-bedroom terrace house at some point in the next few years, and prices are running £150,000+ in the areas I want to live in. House prices are just ridiculous right now.

Absolutely true. You're gayer than a barrel full of monkeys. You just don't know it yet.

yeah, eastern Europe rocks. 0,5 L Beer for 0,5 €.

or come to Slovenia, and go to Planica Ski Flying competition in March. Alcoholics heaven par excellence (but beer is around 2 € since 1st May)

I love this. When I ended High School we went on a travel. There were 3 possible ones: Italy, Germany and Prague.
People chose Prague ? Why ? Because the fucking alcohol, not for anything more.

If it was for me I'd live in another place. I don't like the values of european people when it comes to a lot of things.

It's ok...I went to Italy and it was the same...Beer and Beer, Weed and Weed, Cigarretes and Cigarretes. I don't smoke nor drink though I believe I inhalated enough of them for all my life.
The only good part of the travel was when we entered in some disco in Firenze. I swear I have never seen something that reaches that level. Not only because the ambience but because how hot the girls there were.

Ghost is my new best friend. I still remember amazed the day I saw my first an only pussy with a mohawk, oh man, that was unexpected :lol :lol :lol

Plus Prague is a wonderful place in terms of history and culture, it is not just AAA beer for a few pennies and hotties everywhere. Clubbing is kickass there too, lots of great DJs doing the rounds in Prague.

Truth, although

Swedish girls >> Danish girls

although Systembolaget just about evens that difference, so I think it's around equal. Graphic design and fashion scene might give Sweden a small edge in my mind, though.

:lol This topic must be a contender for the 'most cliche-ridden topics in GAF history' contest. I've been to the Czech Republic (including Prague), Denmark, Italy (Rome), France (Paris, Bordeaux, Lyon etc) and the list goes on, and every European country and city I've visited has it's own charming/quirky/whatever aspects, and the way you perceive this is of course highly influenced by who you travel with and how. The Denmark I saw with my family seems a different country than the Denmark I saw when hitchhiking with a group of friends.

Heh, you're just upset that people are neglecting Amsterdam. ;)

Awesome city, btw. Probably the best time spent of any that I've visited.

Well, even for a lot of Dutch people, Amsterdam is just one big attraction :). And it certainly isn't the best place to get that certain 'thing' Amsterdam is renowned for. Actually, Amsterdam's reputation is fuckin' annoying if you are Dutch and travelling abroad. First, natives of other countries ALWAYS assume we are Germans (their attitude gets a lot better after they figure out your Dutch), but after that, they're always gonna say something like 'A, Holland! Are you from Amsterdam? I want to go to Amsterdam'. Well fuckin' GO already.

Germans are cool - easiest country to hitchhike in Europe. I've gotten cards/adresses from people that gave me a ride, telling to visit them when we'd be in their towns (Hamburg, Berlin, etc.). Maybe they just wanted my liver, but it certainly seemed nice. The German police, however, is the natural enemy of young Dutch people.

I had a great time when I was stationed in Germany. Me and a friend would hop a train almost every weekend and go some place. My favorite place to visit was Bad Münster am Stein. Just a great place to walk around and soak up the culture.

What do you base that on? Sounds like a classic stereotype to me. Are you Swedish?

And he is correct, though Finnish girls are not bad either. :)

Same here when I was in Munich, they are actually great, polite people with a rather undeserved bad rep. Their weird sense of humour is still one of the most bizarre things of the continent though :lol

On an almost related note, I'd love to visit Iceland :)

I am Danish, and I can not for the life of me see any difference between Danish and other Scandinavian girls. Are they blonder? Is that it?

Depends on the region they are from. Some look taller, blonder and more Swedish while others are brunettes and more Slavic. The stereotypical Finn are like those that won the Miss Universe pageants in the 40's and 50's: shorter, round face, lots of curves.

Talking about stereotypes....

Last year I went to Sziget, a festival in hungary which goes on for a week. Anyway, we set up our tents and we put up the dutch flag to let other people know we're dutch and we're proud of it. Well, it worked. At least ten times a day people would come to us and ask us if we had some 'merchandise' to sell them. It's a shame we didn't have any (we're all not into smoking at all) because we could've made a really tidy profit from selling it.

Haha, that reminds me of a story my sis told me a couple of days ago.

She studies at Hertfordshire (North London) at the moment, and she was walking around town. Some guy approached her and asked her whether she wanted some weed. She responded with "Dude, I'm from Amsterdam!!" after which the guy said "Holy shit, you got some stuff you can sell me???" with twinkles in his eyes.
