You have a choice.

Be a winner or keep pretending you're not going bald.

i feel ya op, i had this crisis last year and god damn i blame hair gel and stress.

now though i switched to natural fuckery hair products to make it easy and give the look i want.

now my hair looks like a beast, like is fucking alive and not bleak death when i used to use gel and i dont see excessive hair loss when i wash it.

now this was my situation but i wish you the best of luck.

Nothing is wrong with minoxidil, its a proven regrowth agent for lots of people, but it doesnt interfere with DHT which is a large part of MPB. I use a 15% minoxidil 0.1 finasteride 5% AA topical and take generic fin which costs 5 bucks. I started this as soon as I caught a wiff of mpb starting and my hair is the shit now

You get any side effects from the finasteride?

Homeboy, what're you using?

I use biotin... are these more highly recommended?

None whatsoever and this is what my hair looks like

Biotin is just a vitamin, these are pharmaceutical treatments, with minoxidil regrowing back dormant hair (not dead ones) and thickening it and finasteride stops the conversion of testerone to dihydrotesterone, slowing or halting the process

Interesting, I will keep this all in mind. How much would a prescription cost me, do ya think? I should be getting paid soon

Homeboy, what're you using?

heh, believe it or not my barber gave me this tip when i was telling him my worries.

dude told me to use linseed/flex seed concoction, now you should google it because the lady that works with us knows how to do it one way (due to her daughter using it). i just asked her to make it odorless and that's how she makes it so i really cant help you with the recipe.

it works great for me so far, great alternative if you use gel or something to give shape to your hair.

I started losing mine around the crown really fast and it seems to have at least slowed down. Or I keep telling myself that anyway.

Grow a beard if you can.

Rocking the salt and pepper beard feels good.

I noticed thinning hair and shaved my head for about a year. Then I got a little lazy and it grew back in enough that my family fell all over themselves telling me not to shave again that I grew it back. I miss it. I did notice that my hair grew back more fully. Not in a "shaving makes it grow" way, but I think not using hair products helped.

How are hair transplants nowadays?

You've activated the Feep signal! Though, his work does look good.

Truly the worst cosmetic illness.

Beards help. The same testosterone that robbed you can help you overcome your affliction.

Also started losing hair at 23, figured it was the end. That's it, pack it up, go home. It stopped though. Now it's just thinner that it used to be. 27 now. I don't think anybody would call me bald. So there is still hope, OP

Even if it does go, you had a good run. Embrace it.

You have a choice, OP. Accept the fate your genetics have dealt you by adjusting your hair cut, facial hair, clothing, and gym routine, or disregard it and wallow in misery as you try to hold on to something which you cannot (unless you go for that finastride life).

Not me, just an image I found on Google, but my hairline is getting like this:

I'm 22, and it's really getting me down. Would this medication potentially help the hair to regrow, or does it only prevent further loss?

No look is worse on a man than someone who is balding yet fails to admit it. Everyone knows you're going bald. You can't hide it. You can't disguise it with different hair styles. You can't grow your remaining hair longer as a subterfuge. Just embrace the fact that you're a future slaphead and be done with it.

So Im the same way and think of just straight up shaving it all...but I have terrible dandruff, that no matter what shampoo I use will flake till it's snowing on my shoulders.

if I shave my head would look like a pockmarked crater of the moon.

It is possible to regrow hair if you use finasteride + minoxidil but it depends on a lot of things... how long the hair's been gone for, if there are any active hair follicles still in the area, your age and rate of loss, your body chemistry, and so on... personally, I started fin about almost a year before I start minoxidil. I can tell you that for me, I saw new hairs sprouting along my hairline about 2-3 months after starting minox. They say that it's only proven to be effective on the crown but I've heard that's just to cover their own asses since for some it is less likely to work on your hairline. However I have heard plenty of success stories with it working on the hairline as well.

Anyways, results always vary, but the combination of those two things is definitely effective to some degree in most people regardless of what naysayers tell you. I started losing my hair at 25-26 and I really started noticing it around 27 so that's the year I started doing something about it. I just turned 29 today and I am currently maintaining a decent head of hair thanks to said treatments. I'm pretty sure I've also read that finasteride is actually more effective over time the longer you take it for, but I forget where I read that.

If you are okay with going bald in the next 5-15 years it's definitely not worth the effort. For a lot of people, including myself, my hair is a part of my identity. I would grow it very long when I was younger and it's always been an important part of my look and personality. I would be suffering a lot more right now if I didn't have some kind of coverage. I respect the people who've decided they can roll with the bald look, but I find that a lot of those people don't respect others who want to spend the money and the extra time to maintain what they've got left.

I'm fairly certain there's going to be a better treatment in the next 10 or so years, so it might be worth it to maintain now with the available products and keep as many follicles alive as possible.

Thanks for the response. In the meantime I've done some reading and in the UK you can only get those medications as private prescriptions, or over-the-counter for minoxidil.

Prices vary a lot but I'm currently unemployed and my benefit money limits what I can afford, so I feel even more depressed about it now.

My Dad still has his hair, it's just his front hairline is receded like in that image I posted earlier. So I'm not hugely concerned about losing all of my hair, but I'm really uncomfortable about how thin my hair's getting at the front.

Edit: and yeah like you said in your edit, I keep my hair mid-ish length and it's part of my 'identity', I really don't want to lose it.

Have you tried not using shampoo? There may be a period where it gets even worse, but then might go away altogether.

If one is balding, and you think it's going to be complete at some point, shaving your head lets you know what your skull looks like. Most heads look fine; I think scars and dents can lend character, too. If you decide it's a bad look, it's only a week or two before it's covered again. If you like it, you'll have started the look early.

Of course, no problem!

It's a doctor-prescribed drug here too(in the US)! There are generic forms that are cheaper, but yes, they still need to be prescribed. I'm not sure what it's like in the UK but in the US most doctors will probably prescribe it for you if you talk it over with them. It's a pretty common drug at this point.

My dad also has a good head of hair, still. He's starting to lose it now in his mid-60's but that means nothing for me. I'm fairly certain the bald gene is said to skip a generation and both of my grandfathers were incredibly fucking bald lol so I'm honestly not surprised it's happened to me.

It's totally natural to feel down about it when you first see it happening. I was depressed for a long while until I started reading up on my options. It's still a struggle, and there are good days and bad days, but it's not the end of your hair if you take action soon!

24, and ive been losing my hair since i was 21.

I expected i would go bald eventually since ive always had thin hair but not in my 20's. Shit sucks.

Not using shampoos only makes my Dandruff into a snowstorm.

I can already see the red spots all over my head from all the dry/dead skin from my thinning hair.

Yep. The sooner you embrace that shit, the better.

Welcome to the club.

Every single person who has made that decision for themselves somehow feel like it's best for everyone else as well. It's the most skewed, self righteous attitude you could possibly have.

Sounds like you need to try a different shampoo/conditioner. You are using conditioner right? Gotta keep your scalp moisturized.

I have a friend who wears "anime" like wigs, it's ridiculous and obvious to everyone but he refuses to take it off.

Don't ever go that route.
