I finally bought a cheat device

Truelize

Steroid Distributor
I finally picked up an Action Replay Max for my PS2. I've never bought one of these cheats devices before cause I've always considered them the devil. But over the years I have accumulated a bunch of games that I would like to finish but cant' bring myself to deal with how crappy the game is sometimes. The Getaway is one of those games. I like the game enough to keep playing but dealing with the controls, the driving and the enemy AI has made me not touch the game for years. Now I'm just gonna turn a stupid infinite health code on and get through to the game and then I can rationalize trading it in.

Might sound stupid to some of you, but I can't trade in a game I haven't finished, regardless of how crappy that game might be.

Does anyone else use these things for similar reasons?

Please note: I am not a weaksauce gamer and never plan to use this on a game that I actually enjoy. The only time that would ever happen is if I somehow erased a save for a game and I think I could use this to level skip or something.

I want to get a GameCube AR for my third RE4 playthrough.
I was going to snag it on eBay. Do I need to make sure I buy an updated model or are they all the same?

If it wouldn't be for those cheat devices, we wouldn't have Hot Coffee, many debug rooms (especially for the FF games), and various other stuff like that.

....and this purchase has nothing to do with the recent release of the Hot Coffee codes?

Honestly it has nothing to do with it. I traded 4 games in at Blockbuster and got like $58 credit and was walking through the games section trying to see if there was anything I would like to buy and saw the ARMax. I had been reading about this devices again a couple of days ago because I would love to have the actual rosters for NCAA 2006 and read that this was the way to go about it. Blockbuster didn't have the Xbox one which I need for NCAA but they had a PS2 one for $19.99 so I grabbed it.
I have The Getaway that I was thinking of using this thing for so I can get that game done, I have Rygar which I really liked but I erased a save that was 80% into the game and have not really wanted to replay the entire thing and I own a copy of Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness and I thought I might need some help getting through that piece of crap. :lol.

That's why I bought this thing and that is why I asked if anyone has ever used these for similar purposes and not for cheating or because they were a lame-ass gamer.

It'd be wise to get an AR at the store, that way you know for sure you'll get the latest model.

Speaking about RE4, you can do perverted stuff like look under Ashley's dress with an AR (among other things) :lol

I've only owned 2 cheat devices in my life, the first one was the Game Genie which I bought when the "play as the bosses" code was released for the original SFII, and turned out to be glitchy and worthless. Then I fell for it again with a Game Shark for PSX when EGM2 posted the "play as Akuma" cheat for Resident Evil 2.

Never again.
