I hate Canadians that hate Americans

"Canadians in particular lack any kind of genuine patriotism and define themselve mostly by what they are NOT"

NO. Not me anyway. There are lots of Canadians that are wannabe Americans though.

I love this country, warts and all. It's just more of a quiet patriotism. The US tends to be more vocal and chest-thumping with theirs. It's just they way they are, and that annoys some people. It's like my neighbor across the street who's always yelling at his kids. He's actually not a bad guy to talk to, but sometimes I want to go over there and bitch slap him.

I've no beef with the USA. Actually, I haven't come across that many people with an open hatred for the country. Weird!

Excuse me, the window for getting a call from Canada is only once every two weeks.

MISTA LEO MISTA LEO!

GOOD DAY, YOUR HIGHNESS. IT'S NOT EVIL SPIRITS, IT'S JUST RAIN. RAIN! FINE, TRY AND KILL IT.

I'm a Canadian that can't stand the US government and there foreign policy. I will do everything I can to avoid the US. (Just had a fantastic vacation in Cuba) I don't hate Americans. I think there is a lot of confusion and misinterpretation. The whole Katrina thing I never heard of anyone say that the people deserved it. Most people I talked to just think maybe the US should spend a little more on poverty and racism in there own back yard then bombing Iraq's. People in Canada just don't understand how the US can move God knows how many soldiers to anywhere on the planet at a moments notice but the sick and elderly out of New Orleans is really hard. Bush went to Baghdad in the middle of the Invasion but New Orleans was to risky until things settled down.

Canadians don't think Americans are bad or stupid. They think blind patriotism is stupid. They think war is stupid. Our definition of freedom is different then that in the US. Like all people we sometimes unfortunate paint with a broad brush.

Well, morons will be morons. Thats all there is to say.

I've come across some Canadians. This one girl was really nice but there were two smug pricks who hated everything about the US but was there voluntarily. I never understood that.

Personally I find the hatred of the French distasteful and ridiculous, particularly by Americans...they help them out in the revolution and give 'em the Statue of Liberty as a gift, but where's the appreciation shown for that? Instead it's all HAHAHA THE FRENCH JOBBED TO GERMANY IN FIVE SECONDS or LOL FREEDOM FRIES!! or other such nonsense. Frankly speaking, America has come off as a bunch of fucking ingrates the last few years (the relunctance to receive international aid for Katrina's destruction being another example of this arrogance), while expecting the whole world to bow at their feet because they're #1 in giving world aid. It's pretty fucking annoying. You can't have it both ways.

Sure, but Americans could also turn that around and say that French distate for America is insulting as well considering America saved their asses in two world wars, "but where's the appreciation shown for that?"

I'm Canadian, I don't hate some americans. I just hate the ones that voted for Bush yet again. The east and west coast people are cool folks tho.

Everytime I go to Canada, I see more chest thumping there than I do here. Ours is just publicized more. Canadian patriotism is most definitely NOT a quiet patriotism.

Things bothering me about the US currently:
1)Posing as Canadians when they travel abroad.
2)Unions and lobby groups overpowering the NAFTA.

The thing is...as Canadians we have reason to be proud. Recently, Americans have little reason to be.

That said, that doesn mean that some Canadians are blindly patriotic. That could be the case. But the whole point is to be proud of your positive accomplishments.

So because Americans have had a shitty four years it wipes out all reasons they have to be proud of their nation?

Yes.

What it should really do is encourage the people to stand up for the values that did make them proud of their country in the past...so that they could get past their wrongs and one day be proud again.

If you had a family member who was the greatest guy, gave a lot of money to charity, helped a lot of people out, and you were really proud of him...and then one day rapes a 6 year old girl, would you still feel proud?

To me, that one action negates a whole lot.

What a wonderful analogy :P

Seems like everyone - my family/friends - up here hates the USA.
It's starting to really bug me.

It's just so damn ignorant. I have friends who, in the face of the whole Hurricane Katrina thing, call Americans stupid and that they deserved it. wtf.

Any other Canadians feel this way?

I totally agree with the quoted portion. I'm not really enamoured with Bush much myself, but I disagree that most Americans are stupid. Most Americans I have met are actually very intelligent and well meaning people.

well.. to be fair, the hate for the french stems from their snooty attitude and general hate for anything not french.

True, Americans are led by a retard. True, many Americans are pretty dense. True, Americans are a fair bit uglier than their Canadian cousins.
For anyone wondering, I am half-exxagerating here.
Bush makes really bad decisions. Americans are, at times blinded by their patriotism, but really... any person, Canadian, Americans, etc. is capable of being dense...
The last point is true though. You Americans don't have many pretty girls in your country: at least not as many as we do here in Canada.

A previous poster was correct in saying that many Canadians define themselves not by what they are, but what they aren't (i.e. not American). We had a series of Molson I AM beer commercials here a few years ago that really spurred patriotism... but the thing is that the commercial was pretty much just stating the differences between Canada and the USA. Not like there's anything wrong with this...Canada, afterall, lives in USA's sphere of influence... just saying...

Screw that...maybe Paul Hogan sucks, but he hocked Subarus for a while so even he's not all bad.

.. im curious.. since you are so worldly. do you keep up with stuff that happens in africa? what about south and central america?

most of the people i have met from europe really have no idea about the shit thats going on today in those areas of the world. there is ignorance everywhere.

btw.. i was being half sarcastic there.

Just making the point that I can generalize just as easily as you can...in case you didn't know, there's "snooty attitudes" and "general hate" everywhere too.

No one likes George W. Bush.

Simple as that really.

Go to Britain, France, Italy, Japan, Germany, ... I bet the general populations there are also quite anti-Bush and that leads to anti-American feelings.

In Canada there's been a lot of Katrina relief being sent down. When you fly on an airplane here, they pass out envelopes so that you can donate to the Red Cross fund for Hurricane Katrina.

When 9/11 went down, Canadians accepted U.S. flights and took U.S. citizens in en masse.

I'll tell you right now, if you're American, you'll be a lot better recieved in Canada right now than you probably will be anywhere else in the world.

In the U.K. I know while the Blair government has backed Bush, it's been a hugely unpopular decision and many in the U.K. feel that America has dragged them into this whole terrorism mess. I find that in Europe there's much more anti-U.S. sentiment than there is in Canada.

If this was true, why did most of the seats lost to the New Labour party went to the Conservatives? Liberal Democrats barely won any more seats.

Most Americans that back Bush do it not because they like the man but they're trying to justify their vote. There are maybe only a couple million tops that blindly support him. Bush also won because Kerry was a sorry sack of shit (for a lack of better words) so it was picking your poisons. Americans as a whole were trapped in 2004.

This reminds me of the time I went to a Habs playoff game in 04 when they were playing the Bruins. When it came time for the US Anthem everyone booed the fucking shit out of it while it was being sang. While very disrespectful, I thought it was quite funny. The next game before any athems were sung they played a video of the Habs owner scolding the fans for our actions, but that stopped nothing.

It would be a double standard if Cuba had an agressive foreign policy that screwed millions of people abroad which was the point Darscot was getting at.

At worst, Darscot is guilty of choosing the lesser of two evils.

It's funny how people that have more then likely never been to Cuba know so well about it's governement and it's people. I was stunned at how ignorant I myself was about the country before I got there.

Because the Conservatives on the whole are a lot more supportive of the Bush administration then the Labour party. It's a classic case of catch-22.
