I just waiting for alejob to take back his "that’s baloney" statement, but even your posts before i was proved right were siding with him.

To answer your question ant’s, fly’s and cockroaches all use the methods I described above to stay alive in a microwave.

OK, I didn't see your post thats before my last post. I retract my "that's boloney" statement. But I still say there is more to it than cold spots. I've had my microwave full of little ants and none of them died, I took the bread out and turned on the microwave back on again and they still didn't, unless my microwave is a big giant cold spot than I say there is more to it.

2) Microwave cooks things from the inside-out.
No, they cook from the outside-in. That is, unless the outside has no moisture.

*sigh* I already explained this matter in my post. Receptive matter in object hit by microwaves absorbs its energy -> gets hot -> heat spreads to rest of object -> object is cooked. Object isn't heated by surroundings, so it's inside-out.

Okay, my room has been conquered by ants and the rain hasn't stopped. So I decided to offer soem as a sacrifice in the name of science.

..Go into the microwave

Burn baby burn!

ZE AFTERMATH! Note the one wee widdle ant escaping as soon as I opened the door.

THE FALLEN EVILDOERS

The ones on the envelope bounced off like popcorn kernels, all nice and crispy as soon as I touched it. Sounded sort of like rice when I dumped them in the garbage later.

This is the only part that sucked. You see the outlined black smudge? One of the ants actually burned into the plate it seems. I haven't been able to wash it off yet.

Otherwise, Mission Accomplished! It seems those ants aren't so super powered afterall! The human race may prevail yet...

Shoulda kept that bitch on longer to kill the whole lot of 'em.

Eh... so how long were they in there, anyway?

I think you're both correct, and just arguing over semantics.

Yes, there is no source of external heat, as there is in a conventional oven, so Hito is correct that from the point of view of the microwave itself, the heat originates "inside" the material which is susceptible to that radiation frequency.

However, the outside of the food will cook more quickly, as microwaves have a finite penetration depth. (Your own experience probably verifies that food does not necessarily cook evenly in a microwave.)

Of course, if you wanted to be as semantically correct as possible, you could say "from a little ways below the surface-out and in." ;)

That is what I was talking about. Throw some meat in there and the outside will cook first.
