I miss that classic Lara Croft personality

I've been replaying the old games from the first remaster that came out this year. Damn i miss THIS character, you know...when she used to be Lara Croft

From the beginning of the first game you knew this was a badass woman in every way who knew what she was doing. The way she was presented to us on that hotel. Her smile at the end knowing some good adventure was coming. Her sarcastic one liners. The first cut scene "on the job" opening that door in Peru, cutting that rope and killing everything in sight (even though...she could just stop holding the rope but who cares...it looked cool):

Being a badass without saying a word, whole the most memorable soundtrack song from the first game kicks in (even though this was Tomb Raider 2):

Being the smartest one in every room. The delivery for that "we'll see" at the end...can you imagine current Lara doing that delivery in a convincing way?

"A commendable work ethic i guess"
"Happy retirement"

Fuck, i can't wait for the next 3 remasters.

Also...it's a miracle what they did with these last 2 cutscenes and all the remastered cut scenes when you compare them to the originals. Great work all around. (the CGI cut scenes remain unnaltered, but still aged well besides the ones from the first game tbh)

Yup, old Lara was cocky. She knew she was hot, intelligent, and she knew she had serious skill and so imo carried herself like any female with those traits would. She had a don't eff with me or I'm gonna make you look stupid kinda vibe.

Imo the new Lara is so weak and neutered in comparison. It's crazy that they championed her (new Lara) as more of a woman to look up to than the old Lara. Old Lara, imo, was the alpha female and she knew it.

Nice to see this remaster appreciated, I miss it too, but also the gameplay I miss it, no difficulty, no hand holding, no regen life and all of the modern bullshit.

But simpler times, no big agendas in making a game, people played games because it was fun, it was an escape, nobody cared about achievements, no blighted streamers and their idiotic opinions.
And it's not only in Lara you see this, in every popular character, with all the you need to relate to them fucking bullshit, it needs to be real, emotional crap.

Let's enjoy this and the upcoming remasters, because that Lara's never coming back.

Best thing you can do is support the Tomb Raider Remasters. Show Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics that people still love the Old Lara and her games. You never know, we may get smaller games that are made in the style of the old school ones someday. It's not an unlikely scenario. Nintendo for example still makes top down 2D Zelda games.

Modern Lara sucks because she's the wrong type of character to lead an Adventure story.

The word "adventure" is supposed to invoke feelings of excitement and fun, and you need a fun and badass protagonist to drive that excitement. That's why people love characters like Indiana Jones, Nathan Drake, and Rick O'Connell. But with modern Tomb Raider games, Crystal Dynamics decided that the best direction to take her is is to make her feel white guilt and shame to be an archeologist, be a victim of almost every type of trauma in the book, cry in every other scene, and be a mopey sad sack. While they were at it, they also decided to make her be 1/4th of the athletic and gymnast Classic and Legend Lara were.

Classic Lara had so many games that they had to try a new angle. Now it's been so long we miss her and they can do those remasters.

Actually they were doing a new angle and she was still classic Lara (The Angel of Darkness). The game just sucked but they were reinventing her with the same personality.

Yeah, and, this may sound selfish or hateful, don't buy the new games they're gonna make, if they really are making that new TR like it said on that leak, because clearly we're not the target audience, how else could you change this course?

Played the 2013 game recently and while i finished it this time, it has nothing to do with Tomb Raider. She kills more people than Rambo in that game. Tried the second game and the modern gameplay loop with pick up parts to upgrade weapons and grinding XP took me out of the exploring part even more than than the first game. Combined with the insufferable modern take on Lara and yeah no. Deleted the trilogy and never going back. Oldskool or nothing.

Classic Lara was a gigantic mary-sue.
Every videogame protagonist is a Mary Sue because they're under the control of the player. By definition, they'll always be better than everyone else in their world at everything because the player is intended to "win". Passive narrative devices often breakdown in an interactive medium; you'll need better critiques than those.

Yep, I replayed the first four levels of the remaster and just that intro cutscenes says all needs to be said about Lara fucking Croft. The fight with the wolves is so badass (can you imagine even having her shooting wolves in a cutscenes in a modern game? Poor doggos did nothing wrong!). And then you have the cutscenes where she breaks into Natla's, which is ridiculously over the top and I always loved it for that.

She was a bonafide heroine. They made an entire reboot trilogy and she never even comes close to becoming a heroine there. Despite having three games to evolve, she stays a whiny brat with a lot of help from her friends all the way to the end.

I think you guys are seeing old Lara with nostalgic goggles on.
In the original Tobmb Raider, she was a self centered cunt with a terrible 90s vibe and style (those round glasses...) who loved to act like an unsufferable bitch toward everyone.
She was all that's bad with Indiana Jones, without the heroic redeeming qualities, at least until the very end of the game.
Her only redeeming feature was her double ds knockers.

Now that i think about it, being a self centered cunt who loves to act like an unsufferable bitch toward everyone is the very definition of "girl boss" so everyone saying she was what the blue haired mob aspire to be are totally right.

That is true, to a certain extent. But you have to remember that was in the 90s, the age of the "tude" era.
Every character had a bit of the self centered, over confidence attitude.
Still, it was much better than the non-sense woke crap we have today.

100%. I just finished Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and I can't stand this Lara. She's a super clumsy girl (she reminds me of Leslie Nielsen in The Naked Gun) with no charisma, with the face of a sitcom protagonist. She's not tough, she's simply a neurotic killer... ugh, it's horrible.

I've been a huge Lara Croft fan my whole life, and the current Lara from Rise of the TR and Shadow has made me hate the character and not want to play a TR game again. It's a shame :pie_frowning: .

That's what Lara is, a girl who's always going alone. A bad girl, you don't want her to be your friend or girlfriend, but she's cool.

Yes.
The sad part is : SotTR is actually a pretty good game exploration wise. It's actually the most "Tomb Raider" of the whole "survivor" trilogy and i liked the game for that.
....But the story is still awful and Lara is still not Lara but a cringy teenage woman with daddy issues.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
I miss when characters were badass and were shouting one-liners at every step. The likes of Duke, Caleb or Lara.

Nowadays it's all uuuh muh feels and the drama. Shit sucks.
