The Logitech trackballs are nice, not as soft as mouse balls, I have the blue and grey trackball, you can take them out and carry them around in your pocket or play with them if you want to. The blue one is smoother than the grey one not sure why that is.

OP: I didn't read the replies because the thread title is way too funny. I just wanted to say, as a computer lab junkie from 1994-1999, i understand what you mean. I was never able to take a ball from a mouse back home in those days, but there was something very satisfying about cleaning the dust build-up on the rollers with isopropyl alcohol and seeing the software react more smoothly to movement.

Trackballs and touch-screens might not be the same, but there is something to be said about maintenance on simple hardware that provides an improved user experience. It was very rewarding.
