+1, I have the FD Arc at the moment and it strikes a good balance between form, function and cooling performance.

The 600T is one of the ugliest cases I have ever seen...at least in person.

I have always thought the white 600T looks like a scout trooper from Star Wars: ROTJ.

How's the core 3000 model?

It looks like an Antec 900. It just seems cheap, with the usual FD aesthetic.

There's also an AX650, which I guess is better placed then the AX750 (which is too much for single GPU, but too little for multi GPU).

Really though, I'm of the opinion that a non modular PSU is actually nicer if you've got few components and a case with nice cable management. As they all come out of one spot towards the back of the case, non-modular PSUs actually introduce less clutter than modular PSUs. This changes when you get to the higher wattages, of course, where the number of cables at your disposal will often double.

Just ordered a majority of my rig from Newegg. NOW I CAN DO OTHER THINGS UNTIL FRIDAY(hopefully).

Thanks to everyone for helping me out, I'm sure I'm not done yet. WOO. (this has been ~10 years in the making).

Tried again today and same results. Below is a pic from the MSI logs:

As you can see GPU usage goes everywhere as do my FPS as they go hand in hand. At this point I don't know what else to do here. I'm sure you guys are sick of me posting about this shit but it's very frustrating when you have a graphics card that should breeze through anything acting like this.

I've gone through drivers, removing Afterburner from startup, forcing voltage. I've tried everything and I'm very close to my breaking point with this. Can anybody think of something that I may have missed or have not tried?
You said you had a new card on the way...why not just RMA your card? If not, reformat and reinstall. Also, stop tinkering so much just run vanilla drivers, sit back and enjoy the games. Your new card will probably sort this out but if there's some driver issues a reformat may work?

what kind of performance could I expect from a GTX560ti vs GTX570 for Battlefield 3@1080p?

assuming a 2500K @4.3 and 8GB Ram

deciding if its worth it to splurge for the GTX570 or a lesser card will suffice

Here's my pic before all my recent big rig upgrades. (By the way, I still have that case lying around if anyone local to Seattle/Oly needs one - CM Scout)

Big desk + wire rack. You can manage all your cables so everything looks neat, and the wire racks are totally modular. Build whatever kind of system you need.

What speakers do you have there in this picture? They look nice.

I am running vanilla drivers...275.33. I'm just saying I've gone up and down with the different driver sets. And I'm only "tinkering" because I'd like to enjoy my games but it's kind of hard when the FPS is 40 one sec and then 15 the other.

I'll shut up about it and stop annoying people in the thread. I'll figure something out. Hope new card works ok.

Games not out so hard to tell. But come January 600 series will be on shelves.

My 580 shit on me and EVGA was great about the RMA process. Just call your manufacturer if you can't get assistance here or try overclock.net. Try your manufacturers forum too.

No reason to justify, I run the same. I only recently upgraded to the arc from a p180 mini. I also could not resist the force ;) plus the fucking door snapped off.

What board is that?

Edit: DFI LAN Party huh? that board is a rarity. I dont think i would even be using it. I would probably box it up reserve it. lol.

I love the colors ....very Jamaican. If it were my case I would put a huge Bob Marley sticker on the side.

Thats just me though :)

Ok GAF, finalizing my build. Thoughts?

CPU: 2500K
Motherboard: ASRock P67 Extreme4
HDD: Spinpoint F3 1TB
GPU EVGA 570
Case: White 600T
RAM: 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600
Cooling: Corsair H60 CPU Water Cooler
PSU: Corsair TX650
DVD: Dual layer DVD burner

Ok I need some advice on a build I'm busy with, should I get one GTX560 Ti now and then a second one in 6 months time cause I have a SLi motherboard.Or should I just get a 580? The nice thing about getting the second card in 6 months is it helps spread the cost but will the performance of 2 560 Ti,s come close to a 580?

Two 560 Ti cards are superior to a single 580. Keep in mind that if SLI functionality is not supported for whatever game/application you're using, you may get worse performance than a single card.

so the i5 2500k is really meant to be overclocked right to get your moneys worth? Can someone point me in the right direction towards learning how to do this? I think it depends on your mobo, but I could be wrong. I watched this video for the asus mobos and it claims there's a switch for overclocking but it cant be that easy can it? Is the stock heatsink fan with the 2500k good enough to overclock, or is it pretty much required to get an aftermarket hsf?
thanks

Oh it can be that easy. It can...

And even if you choose a board that doesnt make it that simple, the BIOS of todays world is a hell of a lot more user friendly now.

So, I'm thinking about buying a Asus GeForce ENGTX580 DCII/2DIS/1536MD5 1536MB for Battlefield 3, but I only have a Core i5 760. Will the CPU be a bottleneck or something, holding back the power of the GPU? Not sure about this.

Overclock it and it won't be an issue. Even at stock it should be fine. The 2500/2600 is just overall small improvements on a different socket.

So I heard the most absurd thing today at work (Best Buy). Some kid asked me if we had any copies of Windows 7 that weren't upgrade discs, unfortunately for him we did but only had the home version. He said he needed Ultimate version, as he pretentsiously said,

Him: "I just build my own computer, I need Windows 7 Ultimate so it can recognize 24 gigs of RAM."

Me: "What are you doing on your computer that could possibly need that much memory?"

Him: "Oh you know, just future proofing it."

Well he has technically future proofed his ability to have 20 copies of TF2 running at once.

Hey guys, does anyone know what the name of that website that lists computer essentials in a check list format and allows you to download them easily after checking the ones you want/need?

That sounded horribly broken but I can't remember what it was called or what to search for, "PC-setup website?" I know for sure it was posted in the off-topic forum not that long ago but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called!

Pls. help!

Also, is PC-decrapifier still a good tool to remove unwanted bloatware that ships with a store bought computer?

Hey man thanks for that link, looks like 560 Sli is the way to go. Please could you maybe give me some advice on my build.

Motherboard:P8P67-PRO
GPU:GTX 560 Ti ( throwing in a second one in 6 months time)
RAM:8gb DDR3 Kingston
CPU:Intel Core i7 2600 Processor - 3.40GHz

Is this quiet a meaty build? will I be able to run the likes of BF3 on high settings at 60 frames?

Got a great fan controller today, the lamptron FC8. It's an 8 channel, 30w controller that has nice minimal, brushed aluminium styling. I was quite surprised how robust it felt, not flimsy crap like some PC components out there. You can set the LEDs to 8 different colours to help identify which fan is which. Now my rig is much more quiet as the fans only need to spin as fast as they need to, which is not fast with 7 fans in the case. Also there are less cables in the case as the fans don't need to connect to the motherboard.

I would recommend against SLi for most users unless they know of the problems about them.
There's something in the OP about it.

A single 560 Ti is a very solid card.
2500K unless you have a need for 4 virtual threads.

It is a bit of a monument to a bygone era of PC gaming. Sad was the day DFI announced they would be leaving the consumer hardware game.

By the way, green and gold is as Aussie as it gets mate...

Thanks for the info man, the 4 Virtual threads, what would you actually need that for?Is there a big performance jump from the 2500k to the 2600k?

My new 570 isn't working with my monitor. I just installed it and I think I did it right. The card started up ok, the fans were running like normal but both ports for my monitor won't detect it. I must be doing something wrong here. But I don't know what.

OK. I hate my current build.

1. The damn CPU fan is LOUD as fuck! CPU usage is bare minimum yet it's loud as a jet engine! Using a stock AMD Heatsink by the way, which I have never had a problem in the past.

2. The PC died off abruptly a few times, and now it wouldn't go past the BIOS screen. After dozen of restarts, it finally did. I don't even fucking know the configuration key for MSI Motherboards/BIOS cause the damn screen flashes for a second with no instructions on how to go to setup, and then you see a blinking DOS cursor for eternity.

*sigh* I'm so pissed off right now. I don't know whether it's the motherboard, the hard drive or the processor that's being a bitch, and I don't even think there is a "return policy" on a damn build. I hate the entire build now. :(

Gotta go back to the store tomorrow (whom will most likely tell me to call AMD). Fucking shit! It's most likely processor overheating.

Did you check temperatures idle and load with the programs in the OP?
Did you reseat the heatsink with thermal paste with the motherboard outside the case?

Last question guys, what is the best Keyboard and mouse you can get that is wireless, and has blue back lit keys?

Razer Lycosa has the option of no backlight, WASD backlight, or full backlight keys. I'm using it and am loving it.

edit: There is no control on the brightness of the backlight though. It's either there or it isn't.

The GTX 570 DirectCU II is amazingly quiet for the 2 giant ass fans it has. I'd say quieter than my 260.

How'd you fix the issue in your last post? Loose wiring or?

And yeah of course it's more quiet than the reference cooler by default since you're meant to OC the shit out of that card - whether you want to squeeze every last bit of juice out of it (and probably make the fans sound more like a leaf blower) is up to you of course.

So will I be able to take advantage of the windows 7 $29.99 student discount deal (I'm eligible) for my new rig if it says it's the upgrade edition? I really, really hope there is someway I can, I'm very tight on money.
