I fit all of that in the case too, so I was constantly worrying about leakage without me knowing it until it was too late.
So the only part that's worth watercooling is the GPU? I want as quiet a setup as possible without compromising on the performance of the components.
Also, your computer is amazing. I think it can probably time travel.

I today have a Q9450 OC @ 3.4ghz, but you might as well call it a Q6600, the Q9450 is a small bit better. This setup, together with a 6950, has eaten everything I've given it in 1080p. Witcher 2 etc. But now I want to enjoy BF3, which I guess will be CPU heavy. I do realize it's impossible to benchmark BF3 atm, so let's just talk general gaming.
It's hard to find benchmarks comparing the Q6600 with 2500k, but from what I've gathered, I should expect a ~30% better performance from it? I saw that some games, like Left 4 Dead, was a very tiny difference, while newer one's like Dawn of War 2 and Starcraft 2 had 100% gain with a 2500k (strategy is CPU heavy I suppose).
Is this right? ~30% gain for 2500k vs Q6600? Thanks in advance.
Regular single card?Wazzim said:I'm looking to get a proper PSU that would pretty much handle any single-card setup, I heard good stories about the corsair PSU's but which one is the best value wise?

I agree. However some people want the best for a given something so that's what they go after, so I was addressing that.Darklord said:In my opinion there isn't a big enough difference in strength to warrant the fairly big price difference. And a 570 should definitely run BF3 very well unless you want to run it on huge resolutions.
Yeah the 570 was made so your Fermi didn't burn your house down while shutting off your local power.MrKnives said:I've been out of touch too long ^_^

I'm curious though. Why 2600k only if video editing?
Oh that one looks good for the price, 44A will certainly handle most (if not all) cards. Thanks.Hazaro said:Regular single card?
XFX Core 550W - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207013
Corsair right now overprices their mid good units.
They are riding the goodwill and brand name from using Seasonic for their first 2 units, then CWT for their next 3.
CX is ok only for the 380/430. TX for people who normally buy worse brands.
HX for the slightly higher end before they released the AX which competes on the super high end with Seasonic (They are almost identically similar).
More choice is good and recommending Corsair as an overall good choice is still fine, but many people say 'oh look this is cheap' and buy a not as good CX600W or something.
And elaborating on that XFX, it's based (iirc) on the Seasonic 520/620 designs that the HX520/620 first Corsairs are on which is why I so easily recommend it.Wazzim said:Oh that one looks good for the price, 44A will certainly handle most (if not all) cards. Thanks.
Hazaro said:You buy a 2600K if you can use the virtual 4 threads it makes. Otherwise you save money and buy the 2500K. No point in spending more.
Thread's aren't cores so you'd be upgrading regardless.
A 570 at 1920x1080 should be very good.
Save the money from both decisions and put it towards a new GPU in 3-6 months if you aren't happy with your performance (I think you'll be just fine).
Hazaro said:http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/53?vs=288
Adjust benches roughly percentage wise for your overclocks.
2500K I'd peg an easy 4.2Ghz, 4.3 and 4.4 for most on good voltages 1.25-1.30V
There are some more demanding games out there that either want a slightly beefier quad or faster 2 cores.Manager said:Thanks! Looks like that, hmm. Not sure 20-25% is worth 300.

Oh...MrKnives said:I know. My biggest pet peeve in FPS games is low fps so I usually do anything I can to play at maximum fps.
That's just a problem with my current setup E6600 / 250gts. I can't stand playing fps games with low fps. I have BFBC2 and I got 20-30 fps, then I bought this 250gts from a friend (my old one broke) and I got few extra fps but it's still shit.
My cousin tried to get me to play Arma 2 but that was a disaster.
Anyone have the answer to my 2nd question? About if Newegg ships to EU or is it still US only?
You can run some benchmarks like Crysis / 3DMark / Capcom games (DMC, SSFIV) and compare to some online postings.Cowie said:Easy Question: Is there a good system performance benchmark that will allow me to compare myself with similar builds? Long Question:
I've got a somewhat out of date PC, but I guess I don't know how out of date? I'm not sure if it's worth picking up a few upgrades to bring myself up to date, or if I need to just give up and start anew. Also, my video card seems to be severely underperforming.. I'm not exactly sure what happened, but I'm pretty sure it's not even running at where it should be, out of date though it is.
Anyway, here's the deal:
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E8500 (2x 3.16GHz/6MB L2 Cache/1333FSB)
Asus P5KPL-CM Intel G31 Chipset w/6-channels, Gb LAN, S-ATA 3Gb/s, USB 2.0, Single PCI-E MB
2 GB DDR2-800 PC6400
ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB
CoolerMaster SilentPro M 600W power supply
WD 1.5TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache HDD
A ram upgrade is definitely overdue, but I don't really want to spend any more money on this machine if I'm too far behind. If I were to get a more modern (sub $200) video card and 4gb ram, will I be back in the game? I don't need max settings, but I'd like to maintain a decent framerate at 1920x1080 without turning everything down.

I'd have to wait for Socket 2011.Saren is Bad said:Can you make a SHUT THE CLUB DOWN MAKE MY FRIENDS/WALLET/DEAD RELATIVES WEEP build?

It's kind of ridiculous, but so is a three-slot video card.

How much does it sag for you? My GTX 570 Direct CUII doesn't really sag at all when the screw is in place. Maybe a tiny bit.
Hazaro said:There are some more demanding games out there that either want a slightly beefier quad or faster 2 cores.
For instance in a lot of games you'll see your minimum frames jump a good deal which is a great benefit sometimes not told all that much by benchmark score.
Also for certain games (like StarCraft II) that FPS jump is very noticeable and apparent.
That much said a 3Ghz+ quad is still very capable now.

guess you could start with a nicer gpu, but that cpu will definitely hold you back for the games recommending a quad. Any option to just start gathering a new mobo etc over a few months?Hieberrr said:Hey, everyone!
I bought a Dell XPS 420 around 3-4 years ago, so the hardware is a little dated.
Here is my current setup:
- Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.00GHz (32bit)
- 4GB Ram
- 375W PSU
- Radeon HD 5450
Basically, there's is no way of updating my MB or CPU as it's on a stock Dell board (I know, I know... Why the fuck Dell, right? LOL). The machine is still treating me right, pretty fast and no slowdowns since I've installed W7. Now.. in terms of gaming.. it has always lacked a bit (I guess that's partially due to the CPU aaaandd the GPU which I downgraded from a 9800GT since I couldn't find any other GT9800 or equivalent at the time).
So, I want a new GPUHopefully something that is around the range of the 9800GT, because I don't want a new PSU. I don't need a beast of a card or anything.. I just need something along the lines of that. I won't be playing any FPS like MW, BF, or Crysis for that matter.. All I'll be doing is basic gaming like Tropico, Fifa, etc...
Essentially, my question is: Should I upgrade my GPU (and potentially my PSU too) or do I wait a bit (a year or two) and build a new rig for ~500ish (I'm completely new to building). And if the former, which should I go with?
EDIT: The alternative is to just keep using my PS3 for gaming (like Fifa, etc..)

well its still fine for many games out now, but games such as bad co 2 and bf3 will suffer from chugging when alot is going on. As for getting new components, reusing the dvd drive, psu and hdd is fine, as for ram pretty sure the newer intel i5's and i7's require ddr3 ram soo you would need new ram, unless you went the amd route, as they still have amd boards that except ddr2Hieberrr said:I'm thinking of just building a completely new rig if my CPU is going to hold me back that much :S I'll still keep the HDD that I have and I guess the RAM.
