Only thing more odd than when certain people consistently want you to do most of the research/footwork for them, is when it never occurs to those same people to say thanks.

Seems pricey for what it is, but as already stated, check out the gaming laptop thread.

Well, I bit the bullet on that M4 deal and finally got myself an SSD. Thanks for helping me spend money GAF. Still active as of this post, not sure how long it is supposed to be.

And thanks for the reply fiest. Saw a Corsair rep say that the Carbide cases should have roughly 18cm clearance for CPU coolers, but he didn't have exact measurements. Should fit, but I'm probably just sticking with my plan for the Silver Arrow unless something better (or at least more consistently better) is available in the next couple months.
NP. The Corsair 500Rs are listed on Newegg now.

Thing is, you won't be able to order one for nearly a month (when their inventory will actually arrive), and, even then, Newegg will be about the only source for some weeks thereafter. Newegg being your single source is almost never a good thing pricing wise.

For the Spreadsheet I'd rather be longer in case it clips on some smaller monitors.
I have it the way it is now because I want people to see the side by side part and price comparison (e.g. the $89 G840 is next to the $125 i3 2100) and you don't get that if each list is separate.

I'm not going to have a list of 10 different grade parts, instead a more compacted 6, or even just 5.
Anything that helps you streamline the process, and make things easier on you, I'm with.

Helping people online should never become chore-like.

One of the reps at the booth is a guy who I played some CoD competitively with awhile back. He told me that it's not official, but they're going for an $79.99 pricetag on it. Thing is solid, felt absolutely perfect for a gaming keyboard or for typing.
The more moderately priced mechanicals, the merrier. Nice option for people who don't want to go Das, Ducky, etc. On a related note, I see Gigabyte, Thermaltake, and a few other majors are stepping up their gaming accessory efforts.

GAF doesn't support Google docs embedding, does it? Maybe if that forum software update that was mentioned god knows how long ago ever happens, that will be included. Would be really nice for this thread.

Well, I said thanks at least... even if I typoed your name. Not in any hurry, my upgrade will primarily be for Ivy Bridge (unless Bulldozer knocks one out of the park), so I'll just get it when I see a decent deal or rebate on it between now and then.

Question, I have a viewsonic VT2430 that I have my computer plugged into. Problem is when the computer is asleep for like a long time (about 6 hours) the tv will not recognize the HDMI and say No Signal, even though my comp is on (I can see the blue LEDs). Is this common for other people with monitors, or is this a fault of the viewsonic, or Windows 7 x64?

Is my PSU dying? For the past couple of weeks there has been this high pitch whine coming from my computer. It's not in your face loud, but when I'm sitting here I definitely hear it. I usually try and drown it out with music, but that's not always possible.

The F12 fans for $11 are also fluid bearing and should be quite similar while being much cheaper.
The LE is a better buy since the other is geared towards multiple GPUs and a lot of the cost comes from that.
The onboard bluetooth for motherboards I think is usually iffy, I'd keep your dongle but you can try both.
For $40 I'd give onboard a shot before buying a soundcard. It's pretty damn decent and I can't really pick out any differences from my ASUS P8P67 onboard and Xonar DG with my ATH-AD700 headphones. If you are more picky you might.
Thanks for the info. Decided to go with V-LE and deal with a bluetooth dongle. I'll hold off on the soundcard unless it is discounted when I go in to grab everything at once. Also those F12 fans are great, I wasn't factoring in the different measurements properly and thought the Noctua was better at that price.

Assuming the 1USD = 10SEK rule still rings true; around $1,200, or 12,000:-
Will be purchasing from komplett.se and webhallen.com. So, Sweden, in case that wasn't apparent.
When will you build?:
Sometime between now and very soon. Komplett.se seemingly temporarily just dropped the price on the GPU and motherboard. So one is somewhat inclined... Nothing significant will be out in terms of hardware before the release of BF3 will it?
Will you be overclocking?:
I'll be flipping the magic CPU overclocking switch on the mobo and probably do whatever's possible without having to fiddle with the GPU voltage.
About to pull the trigger. Any list minute advice? Typo pun that.

Was mulling over getting a Crucial m4 128GB instead of the Corsair SSD as Sandforce drives have had issues, but unless someone deems it a terrible idea I'll be going with the money-saving option here.

That HDD cage in the P182 is removable right? Because you can't fit a 580 in that case with it in there. Looks fine other than that.

Maybe grab a CPU cooler if you plan to OC, the P182 case isn't really intended for airflow so much as silence so you probably won't get far with the stock cooler. Hyper 212+ is a good value.

560 Ti competes with the 6950, it's definitely a better choice if you pay the extra for it. 560 competes with the 6870.

NVidia was confusing with their card names, the 560 Ti and 560 are not the same card. They compete with different products at different price ranges.

I'm glad I asked here before I purchased, helped me get the right components. Thanks a lot for your help, same goes to ·feist· and others.

One last thing before I put my order it; Will the components come with the required Sata Cables, other cables and Screws to put them together? Or do I need to order them extra?

As long as you're buying new components and not refurbished or "open box" ones, they should include everything you need.

Just found a sweet $110 6870 to complete the crossfire setup on Ebay! I'm pretty excited.

Seller had a 0 rating, but everything in the description said that it was 100% working, EBay Buyer Protection will cover me if he's lying correct?

Advice for ppl who want to buy a new graphics card:

Dont buy a Gigabyte card with a windforce cooler. That cooler makes a lot of noise, its fucking annoying. I bought after reading in some reviews that the cooler is really quiet. Well it isnt.

Control the fan speed. Lower the fan speed so that the max load temp you're reaching is about 85. That should give you low noise levels.

Yeah you should be covered, but it was it actually a 0 rating (all negative) or just a new guy that has no ratings? Assuming it's the latter, you're probably fine.

Got a AX850 :(. So there's nothing I can really do about it? Shit is annoying at times.
RMA maybe? Not sure if that's covered under warranty though.

Could try switching out the PSU. Is it whining even when you're not doing anything? I had a Corsair PSU that would whine but only when I put a fair amount of stress on the GPU.

Smokey said:

Find out that it's definitely coming from the PSU. Try plugging your PC straight into the wall if it's plugged into a surge protector or battery backup to see if that changes anything. If all else fails, you can RMA the PSU. The AX850 has a 7 year warranty.

He has a $200 PSU, so he wouldn't want to be switching it out. I have the AX850 as well, and there is no whine at all, so this is not normal.

Yeah, he's new as of yesterday. I jumped on it as quick as possible because I was a new seller once and I know having a 0 rating really doesn't hurt. The only reason I was a little hesitant was the price, however buyer protection has my back.

Er, if it's not normal he will definitely want to switch it out, even if that is for another AX850. I'm saying switch it out to see if it is the PSU; if it is, get it taken care of.

Oh fuddlesticks, they upped the price of the 580 just now. :(
Suppose now there's a point to asking about this; DirectCu II or Twin Frozr II?

I'll do some checking and measuring. Thanks for the heads up.
The Twin Frozr is 2 cm shorter. So that could possibly be the solution.

Asus dude claims the stock cooling will work comfortably with the on-board OC, 4.4GHz.
If that's not necessarily always accurate I'll probably run stock speeds, or do something minor. What level would you say stock Intel cooling could comfortably operate at?

Fiddling around with the CPU, applying thermal paste, bolting that huge heatsink thing on and such is the one thing I feel could go wrong. So currently I'd rather not.

Both are good coolers, you're fine with either. The ASUS is probably a bit better because the heatsink has more surface area.

Most aftermarket heatsinks aren't that tough to install. In a case with good airflow you could probably hit around 4GHz with the stock cooler before temps start getting too high, but as I said the P182 doesn't really have great airflow, it's more for silent computing. You might be able to hit 3.6-3.8, but I wouldn't count on much more than that without a different heatsink.

i'm a bit of a PC noob but i have recently put together a nice PC which i am very happy with. I have a question about the sound. i have my PC hooked into my AV receiver via HDMI. It seemed to automatically send the sound through the HDMI cable to my receiver (which i was very happy with) and i get 7.1 surround sound managed by the nvidia control panel. the problem is that the sound is not very impressive, it seems to be very flat or something. for example i played Battlefield BC2 on it and compared to the PS3 sound it was very bland. it all works but it just doesnt sound punchy and crisp like it did on the PS3. same goes for all the other games, it works but just not particularly well.
So on to my question. Would it make a noticable difference if i got a sound card? If so, can anyone recommend one? (there was not much in th OP for sound cards)

One other question. if i do get a sound card, would i be able to connect it to my graphics card (internally) so that video and sound is outputted via the same HDMI cable.

Some system details below;

MSI N560GTX-Ti Hawk - Graphics adapter - GF GTX

Right now it's not doing it. But like you said whenever I do something stressful (Gaming or streaming live gameplay on my channel) the whine will start.

Hmm...yeah it's plugged into a Belkin protector or whatever with 5 other devices. I'll give that a try.

To be honest, a lot of PSUs do this at higher output. Some more than others, and it's a physical build thing so one PSU of the same model may do it and another won't. You could try replacing it if it is under warranty but you may just wind up with another one that has coil whine. Worth a shot if it is bothering you though.

So yeah..I cant wait any longer on buying a graphics card. This Seems like a good deal. I Know it will dump some hot air into my case, which is why i went out yesterday and bought a 120mm case fan to go on the side of my case. My question is, should I mount the fan as intake or exhaust?

That's what I was wanting to know. If it was semi-normal for that happen or not. I just opened my Zune software on my PC and it started doing it, and then went away. It's inconsistent outside of gaming/streaming where I will always hear a noise.

I run HDMI from my GTX480 and PS3 as well ... never noticed an issue with it although I'm not exactly an audiophile but I do have a pretty decent setup (Jamo S606 5.1 / Sennheiser 595)

the thing is digital audio = digital audio , so if the source file is the same your PS3 and GTX560ti should sound exactly the same when connected to the same receiver (are you sure the receiver doesn't have different settings between different inputs?)

all I can say is run the Windows 7 sound config thing, make sure you set all speakers to full range, and in the enhancement panel disable all enhancements (or enable some according to your taste? But if you have a decent receiver I would rather adjust settings on the receiver)

there is only that very expensive Auzentech HDMI sound card, but again I doubt it will sound any different than the 7.1 uncompressed the Nvidia card is outputting

See if you have any EQ options, those might help. Either on the receiver or the PC. I'm using digital audio to my receiver and my sound is pretty flat without adjusting those settings.

So I'm RMAing my CPU and despite living in the UK, AMD are telling me to ship it to THE NETHERLANDS.

Great fucking service there, guys. I better get my postage refunded when it's found to be faulty.

Damn, that sucks. Hopefully the BF3 beta doesn't start on the second, like that trololo said it would.

Eh I don't care about the beta. The reason I'm RMAing it now is to beat the rush of games that comes out from the end of next month etc.

It does mean I'm missing out on Deus Ex, though :(

But yeah, shipping to the Netherlands is retarded. AMD must have a UK location.

Tried everything else it could possibly be. Was still reaching temps of 80c with one core constantly at 100% load even when the others were 30%.

I don't see what else it could be!

Tried different mobo, heatsink, amount of thermal paste, even taking it to a different house for new temps etc.

Dang, all my parts are here from newegg except the case. Everything was ordered and shipped together (one box/tracking number for parts, one for case), but the case is still stuck at its 'Origin Scan' via tracking, while the parts are sitting here at my desk.
