I have some arctic silver here. Should I reapply the paste? I only ask because my old E8500 system idled in the 20s (forget the heatsink name).

Those are about the temps I get with my 2500K with CM 212+. If I remember correctly from what other people have posted that they get similar results.

Recommended load temps vary from person to person, some say to stay under 70, others say under 80, 90, etc. At 98, the cpu starts to throttle down to prevent damage.

I'd keep it under 70 personally. That's just my preference though. It won't get as hot in real world usage as it does in prime 95 (or similar programs) but the cooler the better for the life of the CPU.

Lol its cool...I work in IT for a very large and well known company. Technically I'm a "network analyst".

Other than that this/gaming is a hobby of mine. This is a relatively cheap hobby. If I wanted to do stuff to my car it'd be a lot more than what I put into this.

And I'm using a corsair ax850 psu for the person that asked on last page. On phone so its hard to quote multiple people.

lol. Yeah, I think this game will be the one that pushes people for upgrades if needed. I also think if SWTOR launches this year it will do the same. Skyrim since it is a port wont do it too much unless it is a shitty port and not optimized for the PC.

Don't bother. I researched this when I had my 6970 CFX setup. There are so few games that use PhysX. Other than that (PhysX), there's no benefit to doing this.

But, to answer your question, you can get cards for around $100 that have PhysX support. Just search NewEgg. Or: http://www.overclock.net/amd-ati/941635-nvidia-card-physx-cheap.html

Yes. Having a dedicarted physics cards does help. Some good examples are Metro 2033 and the original Batman game. I played both with physics off and physics on and the game is much better with physics on and a dedicated card for it. Mafia 2 was another good game that utilized it very well.

Thing is not every game uses and/or takes advantage of a dedicated physics card, so I would look into the games you are wanting to get first before spending money on a dedicated physics gpu.

If this beta doesn't run well on my rig, it will essentially be sucking $500 out of my pocket on the spot. $300 for a 2500k and mobo combo at Microcenter. $35-$40 for RAM. $30 for Hyper 212+, and probably $100 for an SSD (I'm going full next gen if I'm going next gen ><).

Going to hurt. I'm hoping for great performance, but I fear for the worst. At least I've already spent the money on a 580, so that is out of the way.
 
I need advice for a build, post here. I think I'll be going to Micro Center this Friday and order everything there. I've got 20% off coupons for PSUs, video cards, cases, and RAM. I only have a vague idea of the specific parts I want but I want my 3 questions in the other post answered.
 
Thanks, I want to make the most of my setup and if I can get a card to bare some of the load on something regarding Physx.

I guess that means what is the cheapest card that will do this for me?

I tried it with using a CF6970 & 9800GT. I wouldn't try a card lower than that. It work, but it added much more heat and noise. Also, to get the card to work, you need to use old very hack video and physx drivers. Thus, newer games may not work. In the end, it's not worth doing. If you want physx, just get a Nvidia.
 
aw shit. The distributor are out of i5 2500k and I won't be getting it until september 30th. And now I'm paranoid that my laptop will break down or that I'll be infected by one of those new BIOS viruses that are almost impossible to remove.

Some do now. Notably Crysis, Crysis 2, and GTA IV (after the Iceenhancer mod) of the games I've played with my 580. I see anywhere from 1gb to 1.3 @ 1080p in those games.

Got it stable at 1.075v running 900/1800/2200. That's more than good enough for me without scaring myself. Thanks again for the help.
 
Quick question: My CPU temp has started showing up as "0" in Speed Fan, but it shows up fine in the bios. Is there any reason I should be worried? Thanks.

Does the temperature show up fine in another monitoring program (like HWmonitor)? If so, it's probably just some weird glitch with Speedfan.

Or should I just get a single GTX 580. I know based on my research that 2x GTX 560Ti outperforms a single GTX 580, but I'm always wary of SLI setups.

I tried RealTemp and the core still shows up as zero. I played about 20 minutes of Shogun 2 just fine though, so I guess it's not overheating...

My power did go out this morning, I wonder if that's related to it :(

You have to use custom drivers for the ATI/Nvidia combo. Also, the cheapest card for dedicated physx is the GT 220, imo. It's not entirely about the RAM speed or amount when it comes to running it as a dedicated PPU.

A sudden loss of power has been known to damage electronics (my kit is on a battery backup system). To me it sounds like the mobo sensor has fried, but the CPU's internal sensor is still functional (since the bios reads it fine).

I'm not the guy to ask about how to check though.

What resolution? Unless scaling has gotten better (I need to find a newer article than this one http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/pcie-geforce-gtx-480-x16-x8-x4,2696-16.html) SLI is really only a great thing to do at high resolutions (2560x*etc* for instance) or for multi-monitor setups.

Apparently scaling has gotten better for a lot of games. Disregard.

There's always heat and noise issues to worry about as well (along with PSU requirements). Not all games run perfectly with SLI either.

For big time games, like BF3, going SLI/CF should be fine since Nvidia/AMD would want to have profiles for them on release day or very shortly afterward. If you want performance for all games, single card would be better.

Try RealTemp 3.69.1. I believe it's only available at MajorGeeks. Google for it and you should find it pretty easily.

ugh I hate buying PC hardware. All the benchmarks said a SuperClocked 570 approached the perf of a 580, for much less. And never mentioned any sort of coming VRAM bottlenecks

To be fair, I did have a lot of mods added to all three games, and that likely increased the RAM usage considerably.

The point is, you can certainly go over a gig if you try with current gen games.

Notably, Arkham City (upcoming) uses PhysX. But that's about it in terms of AAA games (There are some older ones - UT3, Mirror's Edge, and the original Arkham Asylum). Really kind of sad that PhysX is underutilized.

lol it was back in stock when I posted after seeing the other guy's cart. I also placed an order on the MSI this morning with 2day ship and already returned my Zotac. Better clock speeds with the MSI. Main thing for me was reading the comments on the MSI and people were getting lower temps than what I was getting with the Zotac.

What's this Nvidia 3D Kit? The glasses work without needing a 3D Monitor right?
 
I have not used my desktop for a while and now ,when i press the power button, it boots and after some some seconds turns off, then tries to reboot and turn off again and so on.

What could it be?
 
My GTX 570 arrived!

What's the best way to uninstall all my ATI shit (I currently have a Radeon 5570). Just uninstall the vision center and drivers, or is there a software for erasing all that shit that people use?

Run Driver sweeper after uninstalling drivers + CCC.

Nope. You need a compatible 3D monitor. Search for Nvidia 3D Vision for more info. It's neat...but at around $150 for the kit I don't know if I recommend it. I didn't find it all that cool and just used it once in the few months I had it. Eventually I eBayed it.

Yeah, Batman is the only reason I am glad I am back on the green team (in terms of PhysX). All of the other PhysX games are crap, IMO.

I know the GPU isn't top of the line or anything, but I need a solid computer that will be upgradable with pci interface. Yeah the price of the kit is pretty dumb. Then again some would say spending $1,200 on 2 GPUs is dumb. Might as well get the hardware to take advantage of the type of machine I have, otherwise what's the point?

Just tried it out with Portal 2 and CoD4. Portal 2 maxed everything: 150+ FPS. CoD4 maxed everything: 60 FPS locked with Vsync.

Holy shit GAF, I have finally seen the light. I've been PC gaming for a while now, but have always been buying medium/low end cards because I never had the money. But holy shit, now that I have had the money to buy a top of the line card, it's like a whole new experience. it's incredible.

You owe it to yourself to track down a cheap copy of GTA IV, and apply the Ice Enhancer mod. It's ridiculously good (looking. Still plays like GTA IV, like it or lump it).

Weird, I have a P67 Asus board and reset CMOS by moving some pins. Your mobo may have a different method of course, anything in the manual about how long you have to wait or something?
I recently helped another guy in this thread with the same problem and it worked fine.

I bought GTAIV on Steam during the sales a while back, and actually just tested it without the mod. Any versions out that work with the Steam version?
