Hey!
So I just advised a friend on what components to get for a new pc build since he was going from a very old Dell pc with no graphics card and Macbook pro for gaming.
I went ahead and got him a Core i5 2500K and ATI HD6950 card along with 8gb ram and everything else.
Now It got me considering upgrading my 3-3.5 year old build and whether I should go all out and get an entire new pc, or just upgrade the graphics card. Here is my current pc build from memory (since I'm away from home and on my laptop)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (stock speed)
GPU: AMD ATI HD4850 (stock speed)
RAM: 4gb DDR2
PSU: 550w cooler master
The games I'm playing seem to run fine at 1680x1050 and on my 1080p tv. Last I played were Bulletstorm, Crysis 2, Deus Ex: HR (this one was causing visible framerate drops) and tried out the battlefield 3 beta which ran well.
Here are my options:
Should I overclock, and if so, where should I start? I'm knowledgeable about it, but every time I attempt, I constantly have system instability and it really annoys me.
Should I swap out the HD4850 512mb in favor of a newer card like GTX560/GTX560Ti/6950?
Should I build a new pc?
I was kind of hoping to avoid this since I'm still happy with the performance I'm getting on most games and generally game on my 360/PS3 for many games anyways.
Please advise me
Thank you
