The Z390 board range is stated for early next year. Why bother with a Z370 at the point in time when the new boards are literally less than 2 months away.

As for For dropping the 1070 for a 1080Ti, why not make it last until later into next year and scoop up the Volta flagship card for the same price of buying a 1080Ti now?

Price inflation only really effects RAM for that build since coin mining has had largely no effect on 1080/1080Ti prices, but it's still something to consider.

I can see where you're coming from but there's always something better just around the corner. Why buy the flagship Volta card next year, when you can buy the flagship Volta 2 card for the same price just 8 months later or something? I've seen people delaying their builds indefinitely because of this way of thinking.

If you have the money, and you want the top of the line, then go for it, I'd say. Doesn't matter when you step in, there's always something better coming.

The 1080 Ti just released in May so the next x80 Ti probably won’t come out till Fall 2019 if we follow the same release in schedule. Going from a 1070 to 1080 Ti is well worth the jump which I also did recently.

Has anyone ever come across usb ports randomly turning off and immediately on? For some reason all of my usbs are randomly turning off sometimes when gaming and its getting very fu##### annoying. I really have no idea what to do at this point bar throwing the pos to the trash can.

Ive tried windows automic "fixes" and sometimes it actually finds something and downloads a fix but it wont affect anything. I also did a fresh windows install two times. Could a damaged psu/mobo do this?

I have three usb that go to the mobo. Keyboard, mouse and nzxt's usb hub which houses three internal and two normal usbs.

-It need enough PCIe slots for the GPU, capture card and possibly sound card with SLI possible in the future
-I want an M.2 for my boot drive, without it disabling some of my SATA

I think all Z370s will have 6 SATA connectors max and if the M.2 is also used, that means probably only 5 will be available. I think only higher chipsets like Ryzen or X299 will have more than 6, correct me if I’m wrong.

Well two I've looked at (Taichi and Fatality) have 8 SATA connectors and 3 M.2 connectors, with 2 of the M.2s disabling 2 SATA each, with the third (if I'm reading right) only disabling 1 SATA if its used in SATA mode.

Problem is a lack of USB on the back (only 5 type a). Theres the USB hub option, but I'd rather avoid it if I can get an mb with the ports included.

The high end option I have is MSI godlike, which looks to give all 6 SATA with up to 2 M.2 cards, and plenty of USB on the back, but while I have the money and no rockhard budget I'd still like to spend no more than I have to as long as it does the job. This build is one I intend to keep for another 5-10 years.

I'm playing at 1920x1200 60hz and no plans to upgrade monitor anytime soon. I also wonder if it would help with video playback as my CPU is even older (Phenom 550 unlocked) and struggles at 2k or greater on YouTube??

My i5-8600k arrived today and I've been messing around with overclocking for the first time.

5.0ghz topped out at 80 degrees Celsius at regular fan settings and default voltage using Cinebench. So far it's perfectly stable, but I'll drop it back down to 4.8ish if the temps get too wonky.

My cooler is a Hyper 212 Evo, so nothing super fancy. If anybody was doubting an upgrade, I can't recommend it enough. I get about 20 more fps compared to my i7-3770 paired with my 980ti in PUBG. It's a serious upgrade.

Go for those Black Friday deals, guys. This thing is the real deal.


EDIT: Even better from a cold start this morning, without any programs running.

I haven't looked at it recently but it seemed mostly like wifi, audio, usb changes. There's a new TB chip too but I don't know the benefit, maybe just process node. Doesn't seem like stuff I'd really get excited about.. maybe the USB?

Of course some people use wifi, but who cares how it's offered.. anytime I do audio it's USB anymore it seems.

Both the R5 1600 and GTX 1060 will be huge leaps from what you have. The 580 8G typically edges the 1060, and at least in the US, has been priced below it this week - you might keep an eye out for that. The R5 1600 is a great part at like USD$180. The Core i3-8350K has been beating it in a few games, usually when single-core performance is more important (so Core i3-8350K in FPS, R5 1600 in Open World games). 8350K requires a more expensive motherboard and thermal solution, so total TCO goes up. Still, at USD$180-190, it's worth considering.

As for which one I'd go first, that's tough. The FX-6300 and 780 both top out around 1080p60. If you get the R5 1600, it'll push the bottleneck on your 780. If you get the GPU, it'll push the bottleneck on the 6300. Generally, this is a decent time to buy a CPU and they've had very long lifecycles, so I might invest in that sooner, then get the GPU as the 1080p-centric GPUs will only get cheaper next year.

Yep that's my only reservation. I can deal with 1080p on a 24" monitor... which is annoying because I would happily pay the same price for a smaller monitor than they're offering I'd also pay like £400+ to get a 1440p version in either screen size.

I think you can save up and wait for next year. Then you can compare with Z370 and Z390, the new mainstream i7 9700K is 8 cores, or you can get i7 8700K 6 cores.

Depends. It’ll definitely limit your frames at say, 1080p, but at higher resolutions, probably not. Even if it did, you’d mainly be GPU bound at 1440p and higher anyway.

8Gb is serviceable, depends on how much multitasking you do really. For instance, with 8Gb I couldn't play Rainbow 6 and have Discord/teamspeak, shodwplay and uPlay all running in the background without getting harsh 20FPS drops. 16Gb solved it. If you don't have issues like that, then stick with 8Gb for now.

Ryse is a really damn good looking game, not the best gameplay but the visuals on highest settings wipe the floor with any other recent games I've played. It's also quite cheap now.

1080 Ti came out in early March. Almost a year old. 1080 came less than a year after 980 Ti so I'm expecting the next x80 early next year...

I have a 10% off coupon from newegg and I am thinking on buying a 1080 at 520$ (-50$ with the coupon) for VR (I have a 970 but the image quality is quite low). I know the next gen of nvidia cards are around the corner (gsync monitor means no AMD for me). How would a potential 1170 measure up to a 1080, any predictions or performance, price and release date?

Also there are 3 models at this price level: MSI Armor, Zotac Mini and Gigabyte Turbo Fan

Gigabyte seems the worst and I would prefer a smaller card anyway. Anybody have experience with the other 2?

Correct. They aren't compatible. The 1155 socket supports Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge processors like the I5 2500k (sandy) and I7 3770k (Ivy). Coffee lake processors can only run on1151 socket motherboards boards with a z370 chipset.

Update. Pins on the MB were fine, had to order a replacement, which came today (several days early).

Plugged it all in, inserted the ram and prayed to the overclocking gods as I powered it on, running like a dream.

Idling in the bios at a slightly higher temp, but the heatings on so I'm chalking that up to higher room temp for now. At least I have peace of mind while I get through christmas.

Somehow my 980ti is stable @1465mhz on the gpu clock and 7800mhz on memory. Before that, I couldn't get anything stable over 1420mhz. Da fuk.

It's the most pointless upgrade I have done in a while, but a USD 480 killer deal for both the 8700K and the MSI Z370M Pro Gaming AC mobo is simply too irresistible to pass up. Couldn't fit my old H100i in my new mATX case(hated the cable clutter anyway), so I switched back to the boring but effective Cryorig H7.

Now to stop caring about desktop CPUs for like the next 5 years.
