My ryzen build has turned out to be quite a disappointment. After solving the "my pc starts 30% of the times" problem with a bios update, now i'm getting constant blue screens due to "memory management". I ran memtest for like 3 hours and got 170 errors. Does this mean that I have to definitely change the stick or should I try to update something else? The ram was so freaking expensive...

Anyone ever built a PC with a mini-itx?
I want to build a new PC, but I want a significantly smaller PC. I like this Cooler Master Elite 130 and it's on sale now too.
If someone could help me pick out some parts (all I need is MoBo, GPU, CPU, and RAM) I would truly appreciate it! I'm looking to spend $500-$700. I do not have great vision and graphical fidelity isn't a huge deal for me. I'd like it to have at least 8 GB of RAM though.

I just built a similar computer! I used an i5-8400 CPU, a Gigabyte GA-Z370N motherboard, and a GTX 1050 video card, which I plan to replace some time. I also purchased 8GB of Corsair 3200Mhz RAM; the price of those parts was in the lower end of your range. The performance is good, although the GPU is the weak link there. In hindsight, I should have invested a bit more for a 1060 or at least a Ti model, but with current GPU prices I prefer to wait and upgrade it when the next generation comes out. In any case, if you don't care about using medium to low settings in games, it works fine for 1080p.
I was also considering a Ryzen build, but I was worried about memory compatibility issues and motherboards needing a BIOS upgrade in order to boot a recent CPU. If you don't buy your parts online you could consider this route since you may get the local shop to upgrade your BIOS for you. I think the i5-8400 is better than any Ryzen in its price range, though, at least for gaming purposes. Things may change next month with the Ryzen 2 release, so if you're not in a hurry you may want to wait one month before making your purchase.
I used a Silverstone Raven case which can be used horizontally as some kind of retro desktop. I had some fears about airflow given the computer size but I ended up with zero issues, the case has decent ventilation and includes fans directly on top of the CPU and GPU. My only gripe is the stock Intel CPU fan, which is really noisy. I'll need to replace that with something better at some point.

I rebuilt my Ryzen PC from last year and downsized from a large mATX to ITX build with the Cougar QBX case.
I'd highly recommend getting an ITX case that's small, but also allows you to use a decent cooler. Be it an AIO or decent heatsink aircooler. As well as allowing adequate airflow to the GPU.
I went with the Noctua NH-D9L CPU cooler, which I'm happy with. It's quiet and efficiently cools. As does the EVGA SC2 1080 I have, with proper airflow it never goes higher than 71c.
I wouldn't recommend the QBX I have as I've had to make many adjustments to it get good temps for the GPU, most notably by flipping it horizontally which dropped 11c from the GPU temps. However, for a lower end card it'd probably be completely fine.
Something like this maybe just right for you, allowing for easy upgrades in the future.

I haven't used the the Core V1, but I downsized from the Core V21 and they have a very similar layout. A pain to manage cables, but it offered really good airflow.
Edit: Plus you can save a fair bit of money by going for a regular hard drive instead of an SSD, but I'd recommend buying the SSD now and buying a second HDD later on.

Thank you both so very much! I went with the 1050 Ti & i5-8400. I needed to cut cost so decided to cheapen out and go with just 8 GB, but I got it all on one stick so I can easily upgrade later. Thanks again

Just make sure to use liquid metal on your delid CPU, thermalgrizzly seems to be de facto one to use now. If not, no point delidding.
Imo, if you got a good CPU, that can push a nice overclock (4.8ghz) at moderate vcore (1.1~1.24v), there is no need to delid, a good 240mm h2o cooler suffice. The effort and time for another 2~3% gain and no more warranty?

Hi all, we are looking for someone to take over this thread and do a "Build Gaming PC 2018" thread.
I think most of the information can be copied from this thread but we probably need some new build selections.
