Just preordered an i7-9700K, and am looking for recommendations of other parts based on former gen analogues.
I built my last PC for Skyrim back in 2011 so she's a bit aged. I've upgraded the video card since that time and it still runs most games from mid-high. Any upgrade recommendations other than the vcard? Money is tight so I'd prob save some $ for an upgrade that would give me as much time as my current build has but still leaning towards budget prices (if possible).

Buzzing to get it all built. Will have some pics. Anything else I should be looking towards aside from the M.2?
Awesome. How much was the 2080TI?
Let us know if you can get a solid 5gz oc on all cores on that cpu on a AIO liquid coolerJust spent a bomb on parts and hope its all worth it in the end, should be all arriving in the next week.

Hoping so, I hear a lot of people concerned about the i9 of temps, but they are all in stress tests so here’s hoping.Let us know if you can get a solid 5gz oc on all cores on that cpu on a AIO liquid cooler
Fuck man, did your only sell you own kidney or those of your kids too? The 400c/q is a cute and compact case, a little cramped in the cabling-compartment though, but the fan controller just werks.
Yep from the reviews i read 5ghz on the 9900 was only feasible with a full water loop, which is a shame since the 9700 can hit 5ghz+ fairly easily on closed loop coolersHoping so, I hear a lot of people concerned about the i9 of temps, but they are all in stress tests so here’s hoping.
What are you using it for?Running a 2012 AMD FX 8320 Build. I'm close to doing a I7 8700K, AMD Thread Ripper, or AMD 2700X build. I can't seem to make up my mind. I've place different components in my cart at least 4 different times in the last 10 days.

Speaking out of experience, in case you pick a 2700X it's important *not* to skimp on the motherboard and to perhaps read up on buildzoid's in-depths on the X470's electric designs, your PBO performance might depend on it. This is less important if you choose not to push it's performance, in that case you'll also won't have to get an additional cooler as the prism is actually a very competent one in itself with even a fanspeed toggle on the cooler itself!
Due to the way AMD designed fclk to be synchronous to the (undoubled) memory clock it becomes both very picky of higher speed memory modules as well as rewarding it's use with a faster communications bus between the CCX's. This is not very important to the 2700X (a zeppelin only has two CCX's) but can help greatly for the Threadrippers (especially the new 'WX' ones where two of the nodes won't have a memory controller of their own).
Lastly, if you start picking memory remember that you'll get the most value if you pick an even CAS latency for AMD's chips as they default to gear down mode at effective clocks exceeding 2600mhz. Some motherboards support manually disabling it but it always caused mine to bootloop and fail posting and GA x470 Ultra Gaming ones do this recovery thing where they not only clear but absolutely destroy all non-factory data from the bios (real fun if you have TPM/secureboot/bitlocker active).
Those tools should employ enough worker-threads to make that an attractive deal, maybe it's worth checking for experiences with process interrupt latencies or reviews that employ latencymon as audio editing can be sensitive to slow interrupt processing. Of course, getting PTSD on the Gardens of Khadesh mission or taking a stroll on the Voyager (aka the Neelix murder simulation mode) should be a breeze for this machine, in most cases it'll be your choice of GPU that affects the more modern games.Music Production via Pro Tools, Maschine, and Akai MPC and 4K video editing.
Appreciate the information blast, for the MOBO with the 2700x build, I have a Asus X470-F in the cart. I'll make a choice by Monday. I probably wont be playing new titles on the PC, most of my titles range around PS3/360 era PC ports. I was just playing homeworld the other day along with Star Trek Voyager's Elite Force.
I'm leaning towards upgrading my GPU in my current gaming rig instead of building out a new machine. Right now I've got a 4690k running at stock clocks and cooler, 8gb of DDR3 RAM and a 970 GTX. I have a Coolermaster EVO fan that's still sitting in the box so I'm figuring I can install it and overclock that 4690k to hell and back. My PC is hooked up to my 4k 60hz HDR TV. I'm thinking I could justify around $500 or so on a new GPU so I'm kind of leaning towards a 2070 to sort of hedge my bets on DLSS and RTX and still have a sizeable upgrade in raw performance. I'd most likely play games at 1440p-1800p on high since native 4k 60hz is going to be nearly twice the price. I don't really want to invest in more DDR3 ram unless I can track some down dirt cheap. Thoughts?

If anyone is looking for a new video card, B&H is selling at EVGA GTX 1070 Ti with a $150 off coupon and free copy of Monster Hunter World right now.
It's on backorder but my order went through. I think this is a solid pickup.
Dust isn't a conductor (unless you play games in a coalmine or steel mill) and so it won't do much other than foul the cheapest of fluid bearing fans, and slowly smother heatsinks, just clean it out when you notice temps getting bad or the inside starts looking like the great barrier reef.had my replacement RTX 2080 FE for 5 days now. so fingers crossed this one doesn't crap out. my first one only lasted 4 days. really happy with it otherwise. temps are good and the card is super quiet. i think the FE cards are much better looking than the others.
edit; also i have a question regarding case fans. my current case has 4x140mm fans. 3 front + 1 rear. I'm tempted to upgrade my case to an Fractal Define S2 which comes with 3x140mm fans so i'd like to reuse my existing fans. i'd probably stick one in front or bottom and put 3 on top.
the thing is i'm worried about dust. for those with fans on the top of their case with open vents how is dust inside the case? top fans would likely be exhausting air but then that'd mean i'd have 4x140mm exhausts vs 3-4x140mm intake. would that mess up the pressure and suck more dust in? i regularly clean my case out with an electric duster so it's not a huge issue but still i'm a bit concerned.
What will be your gaming resolution? Anyway, possible for you to get a 1070ti near that price range?Going for a refresh on a 670 + i5-750 that has served me well over the past few years.
I've got this so far - https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/ckKyZR. Anything I should change?
That's actually a wise choice considering 4K is very expensive, both in terms of money and performance. 1440p is definitely the way to go with a 1080ti and will serve you well for a few years. Not really know that much about monitors but take a look at Acer Predator XB271HU and Asus PG279Q. They will serve as a good jumping on point for you to begin your 1440p @ 27" monitor search.I have a 1080p monitor and a 4K one. I was thinking of replacing the 1080p one with a 1440 model, as I realise my 1080ti isn't going to be able to run newer games at 60fps in 4K going forward.
Is this an incredibly stupid idea? And if it isn't, any recommendations on which monitor I should choose? Preferably 27 inch.
Go easy on me, I'm somewhat of a noob.
Thanks, man. What will be your gaming resolution? Anyway, possible for you to get a 1070ti near that price range?

Wow. That's a big call.I have an LG 4k 27" monitor and a Samsung CHG70 1440p 144hz monitor on my twin GTX 1080 system and once you play game at 144hz you wont go back to 4k 60fps.

Its done, rocking a solid 5GHz on AIO. I am over the moon with it. Its a shame that RTX 2080ti doesnt suppoer RGB Aura Sync, stuck with green (for now)
Just finished some benches and doubt I can get any higher than 5ghz without a lot more hours/day of tweeking. Not worth it for an extra 100Mhz on a couple cores.Awesome set up. How does it do 4k?
Does it struggle with any games at all?
Just downloading forza horizon 4 and will hook it up to my 4K TV
Not yet, this is the monitor I’m thinking about getting.Do you have a gsync monitor? If not its honestly the most worthwhile $350 I spent on my PC.
I see you left out the 3.5' cage entirely, using the 2.5' slots in the back with a daisy-chained power cable is a real pain in the ass.Its done, rocking a solid 5GHz on AIO. I am over the moon with it. Its a shame that RTX 2080ti doesnt suppoer RGB Aura Sync, stuck with green (for now)

*sync allows the monitor to obey commands to alter it's internal vertical refresh rate, this means it will be tuned to the framerate of whatever card is showing effectively eliminating tearing without having to resort to workarounds like V-sync or triple buffering which can introduce a latency.Gsync takes strain off of the GPU by handling the screen tearing through the hardware right?
You know a simple yes or no would actually work better than this?*sync allows the monitor to obey commands to alter it's internal vertical refresh rate, this means it will be tuned to the framerate of whatever card is showing effectively eliminating tearing without having to resort to workarounds like V-sync or triple buffering which can introduce a latency.

Those upper exhaust fans probably work better without the magnatic cover on top.
Is there any point in upgrading to 32GB of RAM if all you do is game?
I don't think so.Is there any point in upgrading to 32GB of RAM if all you do is game?
