Don't have any suggestions for good games, but I'd just like to add a big NO!!! to this one.
KUF sucked hard. Move arrow, watch troops run, enter battle, press X a lot, finish battle, repeat.
I hate this line of reductionist arguing. It's so annoying as you're not saying anything. What's Street fighter other than pressing some buttons and moving the dpad? What's Warcraft other than clicking on your mouse? What's halo other than shooting? EVERY game is played through a controller and if you don't watch what's on screen and just look at the person playing, ALL they do is press buttons on the controller, ooh teh reduntant and repetitive!
For rejects that can get past the tutorial there's A LOT of strategy to consider. Things like the direction of the sun for your archers, whether you're fighting in trees or not (you can burn trees down, archers have a tougher time hitting people in trees, and Elves get a health regeneration bonus in forests). You can lay traps for people, you have support troops, do you go with airborn or a giant explosives hurling Swamp Mammoth. What magic do you level up? What equipment do you buy? There is so much depth and strategy to the game, at first I was a little overwhelmed, but the developers did a GREAT job easing the player into the game. At first you only have to worry about the main guy and just hack 'n slash away, then you get more advanced troops, and then you get put into more difficult situations and have different objectives and it gets VERY strategic.
I'll just give one example of strategy. I'm on the first level of one of the Hard campaigns and there's a crap-load of enemies. There's 2 mortars, a ton of Paladins, an archer and some infantry. I have my infantry troop, a cavalry troop and an archer troop. On my first two tries I've failed because the mortar troops have just pulverized me when I try to take on the paladins. And when I tried to get my archers to tie up the mortars, they got into a melee engagement with some infantry, which let the mortars blow me up again. I still don't know how I'm going to beat the level, but it's going to require a LOT more strategy than just pressing X.
The atmosphere in the game is excellent, the characters are awesome, the graphics rock, it's fun as hell to play, and it's different from most other games. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this game. It's so awesome when you have 3 troops running into 4 enemy troops and all your guys start yelling and raising their swords when you get close and then they clash just like in friggin Braveheart or something. Then you get into this huge 100+ person battle (no framerate hitches EVER, which is ridiculously impressive) and then you call some Wyvern support so they come in and start bombarding guys from the air, then the enemies got some catapaults launching so you send a calvary unit to take them out, switch back to your main guy and just start beating the crap out of people. Holy crap, this game is ridiculously fun.
Endorsed with full fervor.
Besides the really variable difficulty and AWFUL voice acting, anyway.
I'm playing with the original korean voices so it all sounds cool to me. The badasses sound like badasses, and the script can be rather funny. Listening to Lucretia and Morene calling each other bitches is hilarious.
