I took the plunge and got a Vita, what now

Quick question I figured I'd post here since I can't make a thread and it's probably not worth it's own thread anyway.

I'm strongly considering buying my first Vita and I'm noticing that the 3G model is only $10 extra. So I'm wondering...even if I have no immediate intention of using the 3G or subscribing to a plan, is there any reason not to just get the 3G version at this point given such a tiny price difference? Is there any negative to having the 3G model if I'm unlikely to use 3G?
Thanks in advance!

Edit: Also, please inform me as to any "must have" accessories. I plan to get a 32gb storage card. I'd also like to get a good case for it, so feel free to recommend a specific case if there's one you really like. Any other accessory recommendations are appreciated as well.

Unless you're going to be using 3G I can't see why you'd pay the extra 10 bucks just for the capability. Put it toward that pricey memory card.

You are free to buy the model you want, the only difference between the wifi and the 3G model is the lack/inclusion of the 3G module, they both have wifi.

I hear you. I guess I was just thinking that, on the remote chance that I might want 3G functionality sometime down the line, $10 was a pretty small price to pay. But yeah, that remote chance is probably close to zero.

Thank you both for the input, I appreciate it.

The built in 3G is dumb. Instead of paying extra for cell service to your Vita, tether your Vita to your phone using the WiFi.

I got a 3G one during Black Friday because it happened to be the one on sale and I've never turned it on except once to see AT&T's pricing for Vita cell access. After laughing for a while I just turned it off never to turn it on again.

LOL what were they thinking seriously?

Also, grips and 32gb SD card are the way to go.
A nice case is also smart.

If you do any significant time using the portable at home, then something akin to these grips. They make the Vita much more comfortable for long gaming stretches. (They're not perfect though as the vita can rock slightly left and right when in the grip. Easily solved by putting some teflon mouse slides on the bottom edges of the grip.)

Try to find a HORI grip. It's magical.

Also buy Tearaway and download the Toukiden demo.

PSP

Patapon 1 & 2
Dissidia Duodecim: Final Fantasy
Half-Minute Hero
Final Fantasy IV: The Complete collectios
The legend of the heroes Trails in the sky
Tactics Orgre Let us cling toether
Ys 1&2
Ys Oath of Felgahna
Ys Seven
Jeanne D'Arc (transfer from PS3)

PSX

Alundra
Breath of Fire 4
Legend of Dragoon (transfer from PS3)
Parasite Eve
Vagrant Story
Final Fantasy 7-9 (whatever floats your boat)
Chrono Cross

Well those are some of the PSP and PSX rpgs I'd recommend.

Great Post. I'd add:
Wild Arms 1+2
Wild Arms XF
Final Fantasy Tactics (ps1 version for no slowdown, worse translation, war of the Lions for better overall game, but with weird slowdown)
Disgaea Anything. My preference goes to 3.

And I would pressure OP massively to buy Patapon 2. Seriously amazing and unique.

How's Soul Sacrifice?

Soul Sacrifice is pretty good. I really liked the music and world lore especially. Much better when you're playing with friends :P

I recently purchased a Vita and I'm slightly regretting it. The prices PSN charges for old PSOne and PSP games are plain stupid.

What region are you in? They're almost always sub $20, most of the time sub $10 in the states. Also, you get crazy deals sometimes on certain publishers.

How's Soul Sacrifice?

It's the third best hunting game on my memory card behind MHFU and Toukiden demo.

Depends on who you ask really. People who don't like Monster Hunter really seem to like it tho. I think it's ok but kinda boring, mainly because the multiplayer is locked behind the single player and the lack of a stamina bar.

I just got a Vita as well, P4G looks like it´s been made for the incredible OLED color saturation. It´s unbelieveable how much this game pops off the screen. It sometimes looks like the graphics are printed directly on the screen. Going back to my 3DS XL to finish Bravely Default will be a noticeable downgrade, I´m afraid...

Spelunky is also a ton of fun. Getting strong Amiga vibes from that one.

Regarding PSX: Is is just me or is the emulation not all that great? FFVII just runs very choppy during battles. It ruins the whole experience for me, to be honest. I never owned a PSX so maybe the super-low framerate is authentic, but it makes playing that game rather irritating. I don´t mind the low res graphics at all - in fact, it looks pretty good with filtering off - but it runs so poorly it makes me feel like I´m playing the game underwater.

I think it is lol

I'm gonna take your word on this. I couldn't find it anywhere, but eventually discovered that Amazon UK had it, and I can order from the U.S., so that's cool. Thank you for the advice, I was going to get this one until you mentioned the hori.

Hadn't heard of Toukiden previously. Just looked it up real quick. Is this a Monster Hunter kinda game?

to OP: enjoy the system.

there's no real 'guide' to what to do with it now, because whatever direction you want to go in terms of games to play it's a fantastic unit to own, and if the vita titles themselves aren't enough for you there's a whole backlog of playstation games to download.

vita is personally one of my fav systems ever.

Great tip, german Amazon has these for 14€, just ordered one. I absolutely love grips for handhelds. I don´t think I would ever had played my GBA SP if not for the little snap-on horns I got for it.

I have a cheapo chinese grip for my 3DS XL, but that thing doesn´t make the device more ergonomic at all. Hori is a brand I trust so I´m looking forward to trying that out.

Yeah, that thing is just an incredible value for the price they´re selling them at, the built quality is amazing. I love my 3DS games, but man, the XL feel pretty junky compared to the Vita.

Tearaway and Gravity Rush are both games that I adore. Don't need to recommend P4G since you already have it. Frobisher Says, Virtue's Last Reward, Muramasa Rebirth, Proteus, Atlier series, Project Diva F-- a wide variety of good games to choose from. I'm getting Toukiden when it releases.

It's great to have several of my favorite PS1/PSP games and ports. Hotline Miami and Spelunky, in my opinion, are best on the Vita.

Most people might not do this, but I put quite a lot of videos in my Vita. Sometimes I'll throw videos in there just to see how it looks in OLED. I have a 32 gig and not going all digital so I have a good size I can dedicate to holding tv shows or movies.

I use the youtube and twitter app on it as well. They're surprisingly well made.

Spelunky all day and all night! Best use of Vita right there. I wish they brought Don't Starve and FTL to the VIta. Add a little Binding of Isaac and you have the best hand held ever.

I did the same thing and ordered mine from Amazon UK a couple months back. Cost me $30 and it was absolutely worth it. It was the third grip I tried and all the others had something that bothered me, but the HORI one is perfect. I can play through a full charge and not have a single discomfort issue and I have some huge ass hands.

RE: Toukiden, yea it's basically Monster Hunter minus some of the annoyances found in Monster Hunter. A bit light on content compared to the recent MH games but as a first effort in the series it's a really impressive game. Demo has online and some basic missions + a boss fight, definitely worth a try.

Also shop around and try to find a 32GB for a good price. I got mine off a kind GAFer from the B/S/T brand new for like $50 shipped. So damn worth it because I basically never run out of stuff to play regardless of my mood.

Sounds good, thanks for the advice. I already bought P4G (and I don't even have my Vita yet) and I have Hotline Miami and a few others from PS+. I'm pretty dang excited.

Persona sale is going on right now. P3P for $10, buy it now, you'll thank yourself that you did when you finish P4G
