I was the only user on NeoGAF for a few minutes

GAF's been running like total shit recently, and we can't really get it fixed under the current hardware so far, so I'm blowing a wad of cash to get a ~80 core xeon server array going for more headroom. I'll make a formal announcement soon when I have the dates of the move secured.

God bless you.

YOU DA MAN

Thanks for the update. I'm sure you'd have said if you needed it, but if you need cash monies for such a huge expense, I'm sure GAF users would chip in. I know I would.

The front page redesign that's happening soon should bring in enough new revenue that it shouldn't be a problem, hopefully, since that will be monetized a little more robustly (but just the front page, the rest of the site is staying the same ad-wise). It's all good, don't worry about it :D. Sentiment's appreciated though.

Make sure you take a pic of the new server...that's like porn.

What type of server is GAF running on currently?

We have uhhhhh like one 12 core database server with 48gb ram, one 12 core webserver with 8gb ram, and one older box serving misc stuff and doing search and whatnot, and a worldwide CDN to serve static content. Something like that.

New array will add full redundancy and load balancing across seven servers, six of which will be 12 core xeons, seventh will probably be a bit smaller for misc crap, so about 80 cores. That way it will be very difficult for GAF to go down, and it should be able to handle load spiking without much trouble, and hopefully we have a couple clean years out of that setup.

Damn, i didnt know GAF needed all that stuff. Must have(and will) cost a fortune.

By load spiking, you mean E3 level load spiking with OT still active? D:

80 core?!?

Damn... I thought I had a beast of a server.

The important thing to note is that while you may have been the only one on GAF, your user experience was significantly less awesome than mine is on a day-to-day basis.
