I was totally expecting this (Oblivion delayed)

Gamestop currently says December 6th

let them polish it up and iron out bugs. A 2-3 month delay to get a more solid game is well worth it, imo, especially since the launch has lots of quality titles as it is. Bolster the 2nd and 3rd wave of releases.

Since the game is so expansive and long, I agree :D

Since when were the list of launch titles for 360 released?

It's just getting shorter and shorter from the looks of it. That said, i'm more than happy for them to delay Oblivion to get any bugs or issues sorted out. But buying it on PC....it doesn't really matter since they will no doubt release many patches for it anyway.

Yeah, ok, rationally speaking this is all true and good and all.
But it's oblivion we're talking about, i can't be rational in moments like this.
I was already picturing myself near the fireplace playing the game all day long on Christmas holidays : (

I'd be more pissed if they released it at 360 launch in a buggy state. I'd rather it come later and polished. If it's delayed and still buggy, then I will hunt down and torture the employees of Bethesda.

I don't believe an official release list has even been given.

It's still December in the US, and never had a date in Europe.

Also, Europe gets everything late.

Actually, EUR had a release date of December 2nd (3 days before US), so this delay doesn't surprise me.

LOL

This is in no way bad news. The elder scrolls games are notorious for being buggy when first released so an extra few months to refine the code and polish the overall game is a good thing. Besides, my X360 launch purchase relied HEAVILY on this title, now I'll have extra time and money to purchase and play the current generation holiday line-up.

This is exactly what happened with Morrowind. Delayed a bunch of times and still released as a buggy mess that was basically unfinishable at least on my machine. I'm all for them taking time to iron out bugs, but if that is truly the reason for the delay, then I'm not that confident that they'll even succeed in fixing everything.

Definately going to wait a month post-release to see some long term impressions first. I put many hours in Morrowind and they all went to waste when I couldn't play for more than ten minutes without a crash

Well, during the Xbox days, MS apparently were very strict on companies releasing patches post-release due to "quality control" issues (meaning, allowing patches lets companies feel they can release incomplete/buggy products). Apparently, they are going to be more lenient this time around, so Oblivion may get patches for any post-release bugs.

sigh. obviously any delay is preferable to a morrowindesque bugfest, but this is the only 360 launch game i'm really excited about.

I think with games the size of morrowind and oblivion it's practically impossible to find all bugs and fix them anyway.

The freedom these game allow mean there's billions possible combinations of things you can do, and no programmer or beta tester community could ever foresee all of them.
My 200+ hours experience with morrowind for example, was completely bug free, i mean it. Now, if i worked as a beta tester for bethesda, i would have had no bugs to report.
But obviously someone else did different things in the game, or things in a different order, even done things the programmers never thought of, which resulted in the game behaving in a strange way.
A bunch of beta testers (how many are there ? 100 ? 1000 ? 10.000 even ?) who constantly play the game for 2 months could never cover the possibilities which will surface after a few weeks since you've given the game to hundreds of thousands of gamers-
My opinion is you can't expect a perfectly flawless experience with such huge worlds and complete freedom, and I am not expecting oblivion to be bug free: it's likely to have quite a few when it ships, imho.

Of course i am not talking about major things like saves being deleted and so on, those are unacceptable.

[edit] Also, allowing patches for games like oblivion can't be bad. You people shouldn't think of it as a case of "they released an incompete game and now they try to fix it" but rather like "hey, it appears there are problems which never occurred while the testers were playing this game and the developers were unaware of - and unless they hired hundreds of thousands of beta testers for months, there's no way they would have found out-. Thankfully they can now fix it".

Great, now I will not be playing a thing till January, hopefully the Xbox 360 won't collect too much dust :(.

Edit: Gnargh... I guess I will enjoy Xbox Live Arcade games and how Halo 1 and Halo 2 look on Xbox 360... it really is THE game I am looking for that should have launched with the Xbox 360 video-game system :(.

Maybe it will be the right moment to pick up Pro Evolution if it makes the European Launch.

xbox version? amazing, if so.

Yup, xbox version. And my brother too played the hell out of it, finished it twice, played through goty edition...And we sure did a lot of non-standard things in the game.
never encountered bugs; not major ones definately, of course i am not counting small things like the occasional standard monster getting stuck somewhere or some spell passing through a wall (it happened once). This is not the kind of bug that ruins the experience for me.

Wait, actually the game did freeze once or twice on my brother, but it happens all the time with his xbox retard dvd rom edition

Late and bug-free>>>>>>>launch day and full of bug

It's disappointing news but if it was necessary, then it's the right choice

Wow, I spent a good couple weeks playing the GotY editon on XBox recently and I was flogged over the head with glitches, crashes, bugs, hangups, etc... It almost became unplayable, kinda like Warrior Within Xbox!
