Empire. It sucks to be stuck on this one, because there's not really a resolution to the plot here (ish), but I think it's the most in line with what I love about Star Wars, of all of them.

I adore the philosophical stuff, the idea of there being something more to the universe, and Empire is full of this. The Yoda dialogue is genuinely amazing.

Also, it's just a really, really good film.

Empire.

All Day.

Every Day.

Empire's is my favorite (and at this point objectively the best), but Revenge Of The Sith is the most rewatchable.

You know what, I may throw in Last Jedi as hefty competition. The last 1/3 of that... *drools*

Empire Strikes Back is my favorite, but it absolutely is a movie placed in the middle of two others. It is not suited for watching it over and over again without consuming the other two.

So, on that note: A new hope as it is the most self-contained one while still being great.

The prequels and sequels don't even come near my collection to begin with.

It's a difficult choice because I like the first two films a lot almost equally but I would go with A New Hope. It's the beginning of the original trilogy (everything is still new) and we see Luke interact with the droids, Ben, Han and Leia for the first time.

Don't get me wrong...Empire is by far the best Star Wars movie but Revenge of the Sith came out at such a formative time in my life. I could watch just the Anakin/Obi Wan battle portion of that film for the rest of my life and I'd be satisfied. It's so good.

A lot of real sets and props used to make the first three movies. No cheap looking CG like in the prequels and sequels. I pick Star Wars (later retitled Episode 4 and A New Hope). I still have the 1983 CBS/FOX release and yes Han did...

The original Star Wars is probably the tidiest package. it starts at the beginning of a story and has a satisfying enough conclusion that it can be viewed fine as a solo (heh) movie if you ask me.

Anyone remember when a new hope started to be called “a new hope” over just “Star Wars”?

Was it around 1999?

This is just another way of asking which Star Wars movie is best and, well, ESB is the objective factual answer. :p

Only one is very hard. Buy my heart goes with Return of the Jedi. The Han Solo escape, Speeder Bike Chase, The Ewoks, Death Star scene, Luke vs Vader, The Emperor. This movie got it all. It capture my imagination when i was younger.

Empire Strikes Back has such a cool gritty look to it. Its the type of movie you can watch at night when its snowing outside with a cup of hot chocolate. The production is such a noticeable step up from New Hope.
Watch the grindhouse edition with original audio and japanese subs. Maximum comfy.
