Funny - Big Wreck sprang out of nowhere in 1998 to rule the Canadian airwaves with an iron fist. They had one song hit the top 10 in the USA, "The Oaf", but you couldn't go five minutes without hearing "That Song" on the radio up here..and unlike most songs that get driven into the dirt by commercial radio, this one didn't suck at all. The whole "In Loving Memory Of..." album was pure, melodic rock and I still play it regularly to this day. When "The Pleasure and the Greed" was dropped a few years later, there were a lot of rumours going on about lead singer Ian Thornley's battles with the rest of the band, and it didn't get the same sort of support that their previous album did, which was a shame.

Well the band finally went their separate ways and now Thornley's released a new CD called "Come Again". Honestly, I wasn't sure what to think upon picking this up - I was eagerly anticipating it, sure, the guy is one of the most talented writers of rock melodies I've heard in ages - but Big Wreck had a real big-band rock sound that I wasn't sure he'd be able to replicate. Well, I'm resting easy - Thornley's songwriting chops and vocals are still up to snuff, and what you're left with is a good solo effort that bodes well for future releases. Go find "So Far So Good" or "Keep A Good Man Down" to get an idea of what the disc holds. A solid "B" effort.
