If you owned a development studio and Sega commisioned you for a Panzer Dragoon game

what route would you take with the game? Would you keep it traditional on rails shooter? Or would you make it free roaming?

If Sega allowed me freedoom, I would go btoh ways with the game. The single player aspect of the game would be on rails but I would add a multiplayer deathmatch portion of the game that would make it free roaming.

I would use a futuristic setting with cyber-enhanced dragons shooting plasma bullets from their nose while flying at mach3 speed through underground dungeons, with some Chemical Brothers OST and lots of sparks synced with music, for the explicit purpose to make GAF explode.

if I had full control over it, well, best way to think about it would be ZOE with a dragon and wide open areas.

pretty much a huge world map with different areas, you could free roam all you want but to enter a story mission you would just fly to the area and the mission would begin with an onrail segment and then some segments where you can fly around free and fight.

so Action RPG-ish.

and you are never allowed to get off your dragon, never ever.

If I owned a development studio and Sega commisioned me for a Panzer Dragoon game, I would stick on foot dynasty warriors style gameplay into it alongside the traditional onrails shooter element and also include a plotline involving incest and man eating babies.

I'd make it an on-rails shooter, no doubt. Only thing is, I'd tell them that I'll make it for free...as long as they make the final chapters of Shenmue...heck, I'd even fund that project, I just want to know what happens.

I would try to come up with a free roaming system that made combat similar to PDOrta's but with no actual rails and with a deeper dragon class and berserk system ala PDSaga.

On foot exploration pretty much like Saga but I would make it all more contextual like Mass Effect.I would also throw in a lot more sidequests.

So essentially a free roaming shooter/RPG.

I'd make it just like GTA, but a kid gets to summon a dragon. He then is abl to decide to use the dragon for good or bad deeds.

I'd have a meeting with the executives and complain how I'm not capable of making the latest masterpiece in the series because the PS3, 360, and Wii are just not powerful enough. That's when they'll jump on the table and claim that they'll make the best piece of hardware man has ever created. After that, they'd scream, "2009, BELIEVE! BELIEVE! LOL!"

I would pretend to go along with Sega's wish of me making another panzer dragoon. And secretly use their resources to fund a shenmue 3.

"If you owned a development studio and Sega commisioned you for a Panzer Dragoon game"

I'd take the money and secretly make Skies of Arcadia 2.

Never had a chance to play PDS, so I don't think I'd go the RPG route, unless it was to add small RPG elements to the core rail shooting gameplay. Kind of like how Tyrian had RPG elements in between levels of vertical shooting. That's probably what I'd do. Either that or make it similar to Radiant Silvergun in that you'd start out with all the different firing mechanics at low levels and have to play over and over again to get your weapons stronger to move on in the game.

Other than that, rail shooting gameplay with awesome graphics. Maybe a co-op mode with two rail paths and teamwork needed to beat the levels?

Free Roaming?

I'm super ****ing glad you guys never get to touch games.

how is free roaming so bad? think of it like a world map in an RPG and you go to the different story segments or extra levels in that world map. Sometimes it doesnt hurt to try some new things.

I would make another RPG, but with a full overworld instead of the map with points that Saga had. The overworld would be designed from the ground up for flight, like that of Skies of Arcadia.

Battle system would be some kind of hybrid of PDS and FFXII, where battles would not take place in a separate screen, but keep the positioning-based strategy element of PDS. Maybe it could use a control system like ZOE to allow full 3D movement either freely or relative to a locked-on enemy.

Real-time dragon morphing like in PDS would definitely be included.

The entire game would be voiced in the Panzer language.

The game would have a dynamic ecology system, where killing/leaving alone/assisting the various plants and animals would affect their populations and possibly even the general environment. Perhaps new types of mutants could dynamically evolve that are unique to your game based on ecological niches left empty in the wake of your character, and trading photos/data of these could be an online minigame.

Simple. I'd remix the Panzer RPG, so free roaming.

Simple. A sequel to Panzer Dragoon Saga, with the original as a bonus since it was barely played in the US.

It depends on the budget, the time, the size of the team, the level of talent of the team, it has less to do with what I want but more with what is reasonable within the resources available for the development of the game, in order to achieve more freedom/sandbox-feel, the more resources I would need.

**** that shit! Give me another awesome shooter like PDZ. Azel was a nice experiment, but PDZ is first and foremost a rail shooter.

Wii is the perfect control method, because of the pointer. Control the dragon with the analogue stick (or balance board)

Someone has never played Panzer Dragoon Saga. It was basically free roaming.

No

a racing game. win land and resources by out riding other dragon jockeys around 12 real world tracks. use shortcuts and weapons to win races and eventually the heresy cup! each dragon gets one weapon for the race, except on the ps3 version, which features an advanced real time weapon change technology.

Build upon the brilliant combat system in PDS, expand the free-roaming areas, maintain the atmospheric and desolate setting....yeah, pretty much...

Actually, the Wii does have the perfect control setup for the on-rails shooter genre. The problem is that to me Panzer Dragoon is as much about the beautiful environments as it is about the action, and I just don't think the Wii has the chutzpah to one up Orta significantly. I'd welcome it if it happened on Wii (as I welcome a new installment in any of my favourite franchises wherever they may be), but I wouldn't prefer it.

If only there was a system that used the control style of the Wii with the horsepower of the Cell CPU and the gentle power of the 360 graphics accelerator. Oh well, one can dream.

I don't think I want it to return to the on-rail shooter genre, after having experienced Saga...that game was already great despite having the potential to be so much more

If someone told me they wanted to make a PD RPG after Zwei I would have said the exact same thing.

When it was announced that Panzer Dragoon Saga was going to be a RPG, I was like "WTF Sega is stupid. I ain't buying that shit". Lucky for me I'm a Sega hardcore fan and was just talking crap out my mouth because I was upset that they changed the formula. It's my favorite game in the series thus far and I'm probably the biggest PD fan out there.
