Why are you not buying a Switch 2?

With the Switch 2 right around the corner I'm curious who else is holding off and why? No judgment here, I'm just trying to spark a discussion on how people are feeling.

On the flip side if you are getting the Switch 2 what makes it worth it for you?

I waited in line for the Wii and the Switch, but I feel a little indifferent this go around. If it had been launching with Zelda I probably would be lining up at the door. Mario Kart and Donkey Kong look amazing, but they don't look good enough to justify buying a new console for me right now. I REALLY don't like the $80 games (among other things), but I'll just be buying less games. Zelda and Mario are what will sell me at the end of the day.

My last Nintendo console was the Wii U and didn't think buying a Switch was worth it when many of it's best games were Wii U ports. No regrets. Not sure about Switch 2 yet. My PS5 keeps me busy.

It has games I want to play like MKWorld and Donkey Kong Bananza I have the money, I dont see why I shouldn't buy one.

Also my biggest reason is I go where Monolith Soft goes.

I have it preordered, but I don't know. It's expensive, the software is expensive, there's no killer app for launch. I like new hardware so I'm quietly interested, but I don't know. I'll see what the early reviews say.

I love the Switch (1), but I was ready to ditch it all the way back in 2021 when all the "Switch Pro" rumors were in full force. Can't wait to get a hardware update, it's well overdue imo.

I've also been waiting over a decade for a new Mario Kart at this point.

It's the perfect combo for me, well, except for the pricing.

Waiting for games. Once I see the new Mario (Odyssey 2?) and a few other first party titles I might jump in. I'd say in 2 years.

I'd still buy one for my nephew this Christmas.

I have so many backlogs on Ps5 and I will allot my budget and time for Death stranding 2, Astrobot, and Stellar Blade dlc for ps5. Maybe next year.

Waiting for games. When I was younger, a new Mario Kart would have been more than enough to sell me on it, but in my 30s, not so much. On top of that, I'm not sold on the "open world" concept at all from the videos I've watched.

Wake me up when a Zelda or 3D Mario is ready.

No OLED screen is a big reason for me. I primarily use my Switch for indie games and obviously nintendo stuff. I still have probably a dozen switch exclusives to get through so I feel no rush to upgrade.

Plus they are requiring a specific type of SD card that is super expensive. That combined with me using my Switch primarily for indie games gives me zero reason to upgrade.

Too expensive here in Canada, not paying 1000$ for a portable console. Don't like the shadiness around it. Not sold on games they've shown, looks same old same old.

I love the switch 1 but it felt underpowered. Monolith games were not really smooth to play and Pokémon felt choppy most of the time.
I hope that I can replay games on the switch 2 and enjoy new games by monolith and Nintendo

Because fuck Nintendo, after what they did to the Palworld dev I'm done with these fucks. They actively fight against innovation with their cancerous copyright bullshit and soulless lawyers that sue everyone, and don't even get me started on their recent pricing bullshit

They have a few good franchises but I'm not gonna contribute to the enshittification of the videogames industry by supporting these greedy fucks

Ill get one after a year or so.. although I am completely underwhelmed by nintendo, but I came very late to the switch party and only got one this year.

After playing astrobot, although too easy, it is really jarring playing Mario when comparing just overall execution and quality.

I think the console itself is fairly priced. And it's only missing better ergonomics and sticks to be to be an amazing portable.

But I'm sitting on the fence until there's an exclusive game I really want (Xenoblade, FE) and then weigh that up against whatever the price of games lands on.

If it gets jailbroken or emulation matures fast enough I'll reevaluate.

My reasons:
  • No OLED screen
  • Seems like the same joycons again (would be using as handheld primarily)
  • $ 699.99 in Canada plus $84.00 - 114.00 games is not really an attractive price point
  • Would prefer to put the money to a Lenovo Go 2 for a handheld system at that price range
  • My kids are not really into Nintendo Switch.

1. I do not need to be connected at the hip to the consoles i play on.

2. i have no nostalgia factor for nintendo systems or games. i like to play them, but none of them are my favorites in any given genre

3. nintendos overall switch 2 policies and shenanigans are utterly shitty

I just don't feel like I really need one. Unlike a lot of people, I think it's decently priced but personally, I'm more interested in what the next gen of PC handhelds with FSR4 can do. I would have loved a PC handheld with DLSS but Nvidia is too rich to care about such a tiny market. I might impulse buy a Switch 2 once (if?) it gets to around $250.

Don't like the price, but more importantly their high priced games will basically never go on sale. Plus I already have a huge backlog of games.

Maybe I will get one in the future, but we'll see.

To play games that look and run like we were still in 2014 playing on a console? Portability is worthless, i couldn't care less. Frame rate, resolution and graphics to achieve ambitious titles is all that matters. Everything else is fluff to sell to people that don't play video games, and if your system is centered around that, then the whole thing is a waste of space.

Nintendo priced me out of it. Most games are over $100. Not sure how they think this is justifiable on this economy. Besides GFN gets all my gaming time. That's more than I'll ever need.

I'd pick a pc handheld over a switch anyday.

I just dropped some money on hardware, so I'd wait anyway. But I don't have any use for it portable, and then there's a games problem. There are going to be very few that I want and aren't on a better platform, and those few will always be $80. $70 on black friday.

I've had my switch since day 1 and it has been basically used for zelda. Maybe 500 hours between the two games and the two of us here. That was worth it. If nintendo can pull that off again (and not a botw-based sequel like tears), then I'll buy one. But if it wasn't for zelda, the thing wouldn't have 200 hours on it, and we only own about twenty games.

Odyssey was great but (edit for clarity: "would be") borderline for $80. 3D all stars is dope. Mario Kart is supposed to be a big deal but I find it boring. My wife thought she would like pokemon snap... bored her.

I think the thing looks awesome for kids. Especially with the social features. Also good for people who are going to use it a lot portable. Or those looking for a "lightweight" option for a primary platform to maximize playtime and minimize downtime.

I'm just going to wait for all the pre-order, cancelled pre-order, scalping, and other nonsense to calm down and just go to the store and buy one sometime down the road. I have more than enough games to keep me busy in the meantime.

I feel like switch came out at the right time. Handheld are still hot but the competition is hot as well.

I bought it for my daughter when it came out and everyone was getting them. I tried it out but didnt stick, was playing a lot of P S4.

Anyway no one here is interested this round. I got a 5 PRO and I barely play it. Life has been busy, daughter is starting college, it's all different this time.

Maybe later.

The price is atrocious, the fact that it's essentially a ps4 pro docked is pathetic too me because i don't play in portable mode at all nor care about it meaning every game will look mediocre on my big screen tv because of the low end specs, and there's no games that interest me at all.

Mario kart world is just mario kart but in a bigger map 'diddy kong racing did this better back on the n64 with an adventure mode nintendo' meaning it's the same ole same ole, and the new 3d donkey kong has one of the ugliest artstyles i've seen to date. They turned the saturation up to 9000 and took all the color out of a donkey kong game and added a stupid physics gimmick that looks lame. No ty on the switch 2.

I am not convinced that the ergonomics and sticks are not better until I hold one. I think it's easy to assume because the old one was so bad and it looks so similar. I am doubting I will require unofficial handled joycon this time. I also heard some impression somewhere that the sticks were more normal.

Of course I can't really assert it's better until I hold one either...we will know in under a week.

I basically never used my original switch. Last time I played it was on a flight in November last year.

I'd maybe be tempted to get one despite this, but the price of the console and games are in "real console" territory. That plus charging upgrade fees for games I own, plus I hate the little joycons the original Switch launched with, so I'd be looking for a pair of larger ones immediately starts to add up quite quickly.

It all ends up being way more than €$£500 to pick up the system, some comfortable controllers, an £$€80 exclusive to demo the machine properly...and then end up playing TOTK because I don't really care about Mario Kart, and Donkey Kong doesn't capture my imagination... .... And I'll play it once every 12 months.

So, too expensive, no exclusive I want, not something I think I'll use much.

I'll feel a little bit like I'm missing out when it launches. Maybe I'll make a deal with myself to clear my Switch backlog one day and think about Switch 2 then. Probably not though.

No I meant that the same game for $80 today would be borderline. At $60 I didn't blink.

Oh like if they made a Switch 2 "edition" lol.

I wouldn't blink at a genuinely insane next gen Mario. So we are talking a Super Mario 64 or Galaxy. Not a Sunshine or 3D World.

An Odyssey version isn't worth that

I'm on PC since mid 90s. I always buy my games on deep sales from sites that sell keys and bundles. Charging 80 or 90€ for a game that almost never goes on sale feels dirty. I can afford it but I'd rather quit gaming than support that.
