Lock if old, didn't see anything for the first few pages and figured it'd be a hot topic.

The imagery features a pair of Rebels, a woman with a standard blaster, and a man with a scoped rifle, flanking a pair of Stormtroopers – one with his rifle at the ready, the other priming a Thermal Detonator – as the forest moon of Endor burns in the background.

In the distance, behind the Empire’s AT-ST, we get a glimpse of Ewok villages in the trees, hopefully indicating verticality in DICE’s map design. A defeated AT-ST sits smoking in the woods. Perhaps this suggests destroyed vehicles remain on Star Wars Battlefront’s battlefields.

They said at E3 that a full reveal was coming this Spring, so only a little while longer now until we see what DICE has been up to with the Star Wars IP.

Vague Details:

“The scale of our maps and modes offer a great variety” depending on the location, Fegraeus explained. Hoth, where the Rebel Alliance fought off invading AT-ATs in snowy plains, will differ in size than the dense woodland of Endor.

“We have actually made the decision to specifically tailor certain maps to certain game modes,” Fegraeus continued, “and what we get from that is not only incredibly varied scales, but also gameplay that will allow players to live out some of their most memorable Star Wars battle fantasies.”

DICE’s Frostbite Engine brings that to life by way of the studio’s “internally developed photogrammetry systems.” With photogrammetry, developers can use photographed images to achieve an incredible level of detail – we saw this in The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, which IGN nominated for Best Graphics in the 2014 Best of Technology category.
“We’ve been showing the game to some close partners and one of the things we hear is that it doesn’t feel like other shooters and that it’s fully born from Star Wars. That really strikes a chord with me and the team as that is exactly the emotion and feeling we are going for and we can’t wait to show the world more this spring.”

I wonder what the purpose of art like this is. Like, it's nice to look at, but resources for references seem to be quite plentiful regarding Star Wars.

Added some quotes from Design Director Niklas Fegraeus:

“The scale of our maps and modes offer a great variety” depending on the location, Fegraeus explained. Hoth, where the Rebel Alliance fought off invading AT-ATs in snowy plains, will differ in size than the dense woodland of Endor.

“We have actually made the decision to specifically tailor certain maps to certain game modes,” Fegraeus continued, “and what we get from that is not only incredibly varied scales, but also gameplay that will allow players to live out some of their most memorable Star Wars battle fantasies.”

“Perhaps the hardest part about bringing the franchise back is managing expectations,” said Fegraeus. “Star Wars fans, including ourselves, are incredibly passionate about the universe. Each of us have our own personal favorites. However, with the talent we have here at DICE, the Frostbite technology at our fingertips, and the fantastic working relationship we have with Lucas, I believe we will deliver a Star Wars experience that excites fans around the world and gives them the chance to play out battles in some of the most iconic locales in the series history.”

Edit: Or Nirolak will sneak them in for me! Close enough.

I primarily play Nintendo games, but this could be the first shooter I really get into in a long time.

I really hope it will run on my laptop.

So this quote:

We have actually made the decision to specifically tailor certain maps to certain game modes

...is a huge deal. For anybody who's been following BF recently, it's pretty clear that map design has suffered significantly as they try to create maps that work with many different types of modes. Having maps that are designed specifically around one type of mode are infinitely better (see: BF2 conquest or BC2 rush) gets me excited about what they'll be doing with some of these iconic scenes.

I'm ready to believe DICE. Just don't botch the launch!

Tailoring game modes to maps and vice versa is the best thing I've heard so far.

Hopefully they don't dilute it with too many game modes though.

Tailoring maps to certain game modes scares me a bit, I feel like that's what ruined some of the recent Battlefield maps.

“The scale of our maps and modes offer a great variety” depending on the location, Fegraeus explained.

Best news yet.

SO MUCH HYPE FOR THIS

Would be fine with: BF4 w/ polish and Star Wars

Would LOVE: 3rd/1st Person like MGSV - Heroes - AI drones like Titanfall

Show us real footage, not bull shots.

Where exactly is this footage you're talking about? I see a piece of concept art but that's about it.

Anyways, I wonder if EA will be unveiling this alongside other major Star Wars things from Disney as we ramp up to the release of the new movie. Obviously May 4th will have something.

It's great news, because what they've been doing is pretty much making all the BF 4 maps tailored and adaptable to every game type. Doing good in others and completely failing in other modes (mostly Rush). I'd happy with some maps not appearing in other game modes.

One of my least favorite things they've done. Not only that, it splits up the community even further when releasing new packs/modes. Also I really want there to be a third person mode, but that's not going to happen it seems like.
