IGN: First piece of Star Wars Battlefront concept art revealed [and some vague info]

The imagery features a pair of Rebels, a woman with a standard blaster, and a man with a scoped rifle, flanking a pair of Stormtroopers – one with his rifle at the ready, the other priming a Thermal Detonator – as the forest moon of Endor burns in the background.

In the distance, behind the Empire’s AT-ST, we get a glimpse of Ewok villages in the trees, hopefully indicating verticality in DICE’s map design. A defeated AT-ST sits smoking in the woods. Perhaps this suggests destroyed vehicles remain on Star Wars Battlefront’s battlefields.

Since when has concept art ever been indicative of final gameplay features? IGN doing their part to gin up unwarranted hype.

So this quote:

...is a huge deal. For anybody who's been following BF recently, it's pretty clear that map design has suffered significantly as they try to create maps that work with many different types of modes. Having maps that are designed specifically around one type of mode are infinitely better (see: BF2 conquest or BC2 rush) gets me excited about what they'll be doing with some of these iconic scenes.

I'm ready to believe DICE. Just don't botch the launch!

god yes, I hope they have maps and a gamemode that mimics BC2 rush

I wouldn't really call it a rumor. Every time EA or someone from DICE talks about the game, they call it first person

Fair enough, I just didn't want to talk about it as confirmed when I wasn't quite sure and misdirect people if I happened to be mistaken. That sucks though, while I prefer 1st person games most of the time, I actually always liked Battlefront in 3rd person, I don't want every game playing exactly the same. *Glares at people who want ADS in every shooter*

I don't mean to derail the topic too much, but something in the article made me think to ask:

I know that having dead vehicles/bodies etc can be very tough on hardware, so those things typically disappear as to spend those resources on more useful tasks. Is this something that would benefit from cloud computing (ie, what MS was screaming about)? I know that computing dynamic things in the cloud is pie in the sky due to the latency, but something static sitting in 1 spot seems perfect for this type of service.

I have never played Battlefront before but this is multiplayer only shooter basically right? No single player campaign?

If it is only a multiplayer shooter I hope someone makes a compelling single player Star Wars game this gen.

Guess that makes sense. Does the game have any campaign of sorts, or just multiplayer with bot matches as a SP mode. Or do we know?

We don't know, but DICE has implied they're not making games without singleplayer anymore before.

And uh, the reverse as well, so I'd pencil in lots of multiplayer for Mirror's Edge.

I wonder if they'll have the infamous Ground to Space battles transition like in the leaked Battlefield 3 concept, I doubt it, but a man can dream...

Did I read AT-AT Imperial Walker? Colonel Gentleman would be proud.

In all seriousness, this is my most anticipated game of 2015

Who wants to bet? Here's what I'm guessing:

-Regenerating health
-No bots/AI troops
-No space battles
-First person only
-Loadouts with unlockable blasters and attachments and equipment and perks and grenades
-Can't play as Wookie
-Can't play as Jedi/Sith
-Tons of DLC
-No selectable eras. Stuck in Rebel vs Empire. -No droids

I'm not gonna be prepared for this game. I already felt like Battlefront 2 was the perfect Star Wars game so if they surpass that then I'm confident this'll be a great game to compliment the movie coming out this year.

Unfortunately bots are pretty much gone and dead these days. Battlefield 2 was the last game with bots, but the AI wasn`t anywhere close to being decent, but I would appreciate some sort of single player mode.

-Can't play as Jedi/Sith
-Tons of DLC
-No selectable eras. Stuck in Rebel vs Empire. -No droids

I have that feeling to my expectations are set to very low..

Probably what it's going to end up being, unfortunately, though they'll probably add some form of health packs in.

Which is FINE, you know? Like, if this is the case, it's still a Star Wars game. We haven't had a good one in a while. It just won't be the Battlefront we all want. That's just how I feel. Just my opinion.

Dont care, we all know this is going to be a somewhat BF game but if they can pull of the ambience, feel and environments from Star Wars its enough for me.

Thats my hype level, if they can make it even better then im gonna enjoy it a lot more.

They'd probably only have bots if they can utilize Microsoft's cloud. It would really help improve enemy AI, guys. :P

I'll just tape down the Sprint button and unlock them all in the first day.

“We’ve been showing the game to some close partners and one of the things we hear is that it doesn’t feel like other shooters and that it’s fully born from Star Wars. That really strikes a chord with me and the team as that is exactly the emotion and feeling we are going for and we can’t wait to show the world more this spring.”

Good news for Battlefront fans who don't want Battlefield with a Star Wars skin.

Edit: no regen health, low emphasis health packs. We need health droids

Space battles and maybe some kind of squad mechanic where you play as a character commanding a couple of AI bots for those massive battles.
That would be cool.

Sure, but I really would have preferred a legitimate entry -- continuation of the series, if you will -- rather than what will most likely be a Battlefield game with Star Wars stickers slapped all over it. Here's to hoping, though.

You know, I think the Dice formula for MP would work very well with star wars. BF4 with star wars weapons, vehicles and vistas could be incredible. The real question is if this game will feature lightsabers in any capacity.

I was wondering why there wasn't any hype for this game here.

I need to played it, it's been too long since I played a SW game, since TFU2, I can't wait for this one!

I need a lot of maps, guns, and a long long campaign with a lot of DLC.

Can't wait for them to release more info.

Like I said in the other thread. I hope that DICEfront is simply a tweaked "reskin" of Battlefield. That is what the original games basically were.

If DICEfront ends up competent I can see myself not buying another multiplayer FPS until the next. I went for 3 solid years with Star Wars Battlefront 2 as my only online game.

Gaf will burn when it's revealed and it's basically Battlefield: Star Wars.

Don't fuck it up dice, please.
