IGN: First piece of Star Wars Battlefront concept art revealed [and some vague info]

Bots should be an option no doubt about it. Preset loadouts can make for a more balanced, enjoyable shooter too. Look at Halo 2 in comparison to 4.

Well Halo is an arena shooter where you all start with same gun and there's map pickups. It's a totally different ballgame than Battlefield.

I don't see any point in putting time into a bot mode either. Do people play it in CoD? I only did so in Battlefront 1 and 2 because online wasn't so widespread and I was just a kid. Now it seems like a waste of time.

Allow me to ruin everything by mentioning that people at EA are probably right now trying to figure out how to monetize the sheeyt out of this game. :D

COD' s a different ball game really. I always enjoyed the Battlefront campaigns moving from one planet to the other instead of having disconnected matches. Then again, I've never found playing against other people is the be all and end all.

I don't really see how playing against the CPU is a waste of time in comparison to human players either but hey ho.

Trying to not let myself get *too* excited, but I can't wait for this game. Still find myself going back and playing the first Battlefront every now and then.

Show us real footage, not bull shots.

If you consider concept art to be bull-shots, you might want to go back to your nerf herd before they get into trouble.

What kind of weapons exist in the Star Wars universe beyond blasters and lightsabers anyway? Never really paid attention to them during the films

Just give me this and I'll be happy

You will never be happy. Game companies dislike money so they will never give you this :P

After so many years, it's great to see this finally happening. Hopefully they're give us a great trailer this spring. The concept art is great, but I never expect anything from concept art.

In battlefront it was great for galactic conquest with friends. Get 4 friends, 2 for each side, a bunch of bots between us as we slaughtered each others armies. Good stuff.

Damn, if they do nothing else, they need to allow online galactic conquest with friends.

I hope Clone Wars Era doesn't come back. That period has been done to death in star wars related media.
To be fair, so has the OT. Can't even count how many iterations of Hoth I've been through. The only new territory they'll have to work with is TFA or whatever they make up. I think it would be cool if they drew some material from the Clone Wars show, but I doubt they'll do that.

Game just needs to have a stable launch and DICE need to do a proper beta test like two or three months from launch. Not some half assed week long server stress test 2 weeks before the game launches. We need a fully operational Battlefront on Day-1. No bugs, no glitches, no server crashes, no massive netcode issues just a good game that actually works properly the day of release. They need to break the cycle of releasing broken games. It has to stop.

I have a feeling we're gonna be able to play maps from Episode IV - VII, with dlc packs ( like BF ) containing clone wars stuff from Episode 2 - 3, and 1 or 2 maps from Episode 1 seeing as there's not a lot of stuff you could do with that.

I'd love to have something along the line of Battlefront 2's 501st legion, but this time as a rebel soldier.

As much as I love Battlefront and can't wait for Battlefront 3, concept arts do nothing for me.

Has there ever been a game where the game looks as good as the concept art? Screenshots/videos give me a real look at what the game will look like.

They're not going to start showing proper gameplay until Battlefield Hardline's out the door. EA will want to keep the focus on Hardline.

Sorry for my ignorance, but will this game have an offline singleplayer campaign ?

When does it take place ?

Are there going to be any Clone Wars or Episode VII maps?

It will share 'themes, locations and items' with Episode VII. It looks likely the OT will remain the focus with the maps revealed on Hoth and Endor. I'm sure there will be Clone Wars locations but I wouldn't be surprised if they were DLC.

Grain of salt offcourse.

MakingStarWars.Net has just posted a huge list of details for this year’s Star Wars Battlefront currently being developed by DICE. The list seems a little too detailed for our liking but theres been a lot of Battlefront chatter this past week in regards to meetings currently taking place at EA Redwood Studios, and seeing as how Battlefront news has been silent or nonexsistant since last June, we thought we’d share this with you guys.

If youre a hardcore Star Wars fan, then chances are youve heard of MakingStarWars.net and the amount of accurate leaks and inside sources they have, keep in mind nothing on this list has been confirmed by EA. Also be advised we’re only a couple weeks away from a proper reveal, the offical press release last year indicated more news would drop Spring 2015 which begins in March, and GDC (March 2-6) is just around the corner and EA and DICE like to reveal games(BF4) there…

The story of Star Wars: Battlefront’scampaign will span pretty much the entire Star Wars saga.
Star Wars Battlefront will feature segments in which you play as both the good guys (Old Republic, Rebellion and Republic) and bad guys (Separatists and the Empire). It was specifically stated that there will be a small portion of prequel trilogy content. You will participate in a couple of battles from the Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and the space battle above Corsucant from the beginning of Revenge of the Sith.
The majority of the campaign will take place during the original trilogy era. All of the battles and settings that you would expect to be there will be playable. It was said that the campaign itself is pretty long when compared to other first person shooters.
There will be some segments of the campaign which take place between Return of the Jediand The Force Awakens. There won’t be a lot because in their words “Lucasfilm has a lot of plans for that era.”
The last section of the campaign takes place before and during the opening segments of The Force Awakens. Don’t expect anything too revealing, because the game is expected to ship about a month before the movie releases.
For both the Republic (that’s what the good guys are being called in the production here) and Empire sections you will be playing characters that actually appear in The Force Awakens.
EA/DICE was allowed into Pinewood Studios for a few days to scan and capture props, sets, etc for recreation in the game.
At one point either during either the portion between episodes 6 and 7 or the portion from the beginning of The Force Awakensa character with the last name Tarkin appears.
The scale of the multiplayer is going to be absolutely massive with up 64 players participating on each side.
Space to land battles are absolutely happening, but will only be available in certain game modes.
There will be a “hero” system in place, where as you play you accumulate points that you can eventually cash in to play as a “hero” character. These characters are extremely powerful and have abilities that are not available to the normal characters that you play for most of the matches. The system is constantly in flux, but as it is now, pretty much everyone have a chance to play as a hero at least once per match.
The Downloadable Content plan for the game is “extremely aggressive”. Expect up to five DLC packs for the game, with the first coming out before the end of 2015. Each pack will be themed, with the first two or three being exclusively based around content from The Force Awakens.
The game will ship with several The Force Awakens characters already, but some won’t be added until DLC. Specifically all of the characters in the trailers will be available at launch, as will new versions of the X-wing an TIE fighter.
Tons of new ships and vehicles.
The contents of each DLC will contain at least three new maps, new hero characters, and new vehicles/ships.
I saw a character model for the new Stormtroopers, the model for the new X-wings, and some random models of guns, grenades, and other things like that. However, the most interesting thing was a picture of a screen from one of the employee databases.
It was as a checklist that the department heads can go through to see whats been complete, whats been bug tested, etc. It was basically just a black screen with lines and lines of text posts, with comments and suggestions under each post. What was most interesting about this is what was listed. This particular screen I saw was for a listing of maps for the multiplayer mode. There was a lot of stuff that you’d expect to see in a game like this like:
Hoth: EP5
Endor: EP6
Alderaan
Corscucant
Yavin: EP4

Like I said, nothing major. EXCEPT for this listing that I saw
Tatooine: EP1
Tatooine; EP4
Tatooine: EP7

Now, I know that’s not concrete evidence that the desert planet from The Force Awakensis Tatooine, but I thought it was interesting because I know there was been some debate about that subject.
Seems like a lot to take in, but if this list is even a fraction correct then Star Wars fans are gonna be pretty happy when it releases…

DICE can barely get 32 players on each side right and they're going to do 64 players per side? lol

Thanks for the article, though.

Start out in spawn with:

32 VS 32 in space
While
32 VS 32 on ground

This player count could be manageable as you will need to split your forces between space and land to have a chance of victory. Also like MAG chances are the maps will have key choke points where players need to split up and defend or attack, so chances of all 128 players being in the same general area will be unlikely unless you plan ahead for it.

It all seemed kind of real until the 64 player per side thing. As awesome as that chaos could be, I don't think Dice can pull it off, specially after BF4.

Do they really want to risk it with a license this big? If true, of course, which I doubt.

I hope they bring back the Hero Assault as a standard mode too, not some DLC garbage. That's probably one of my favorite modes in Battlefront II!

64 players with MAG modes would rock with this.

But needs a well done progression system as well.

Progression system? How so? I really don't want them to turn it into Battlefield: Star Wars.
