First it would break Todd Howard to see his game thrown out there with no hype. Shadowdropping Starfield would be the dumbest move going by Xbox. I shit on Aaron Greenberg but he's surely not that dense. Whether the rumours on issues in development are true or not, it would be best to have Starfield in November and leave May/June to Zelda.

Ironically, the last year they had an influx of games, 2013-14, was because of actions by Don Mattrick. Also the biggest and fastest sales frontload Xbox ever had.

They better hope Starfield isn't a bomba. If that game is anything short of BotW, GOW, or Elden Ring levels of quality its going to be a tough couple years for Phil-Sama.

It's abundantly clear now, at least to me, why and how important the Bethesda acquisition was for them. All of their big blockbuster games going forward are essentially former multiplatform Beth titles/franchises.

I'm so torn on this guy.

On the one hand, I love my Series X, Gamepass, I still put a whole lot of hours into Halo, and I love how diverse Gamepass is and especially how it functions for game preservation.

On the other, I don't always feel connected to the brand and its franchises. It feels always like Xbox is trying to figure out what they're all about. It's not quality (Sony has that on absolute lockdown), it's not iconic moments in gaming (they haven't had a truly landmark title in...a decade?) and the diversity of experiences is mostly third party buys.

Perhaps 2023 changes that. Here's hoping.

Fair point - the way they've maintained and developed homegrown IPs over the past fifteen years has been pretty dismal. The exciting stuff now is what they've had to buy in.

MS did win publisher of the year in 2021. In 2023 they could do it again with Rush, Forza Motorsport, Star field, and red fall. Only Nintendo has a chance against MS this year in my opinion.

Sony and Nintendo first party had down times before too. PS5 2021 first party lineup was weak imo with ratchet clank and returnal. PS4 first three years was weak but turned out to have a great line up.

Hi-Fi Rush, quite literally one of the very best video games I've ever played, is right there for you to go play. The "where's the game" narrative is losing steam real fast because that game is it. It isn't just an amazing game. It's an all-time great game based on what I've played so far.
