IGN Mass Effect Preview

Mass Effect Preview

"you'll travel around in a trio, but you'll have command of a space vessel and its crew. You're a military authority, and it's your task to raise humanity to the pinnacle of its galactic civilization. Sounds a little like Star Trek, perhaps a little like Too Human. But the key is how you go about achieving this hefty task. Do you want to achieve it in an evil way, or in an heroic way? A third choice is to take a profiteering approach, which is a wiggly in-between gray area. Somewhat like Fable, the decisions you make have massive effects (get it?) on the world around you."

"Since you travel on a ship and will visit many planets and worlds over the course of the game, BioWare thought it would make sense to enable you to explore the vast, dark reaches of the galaxy. You'll visit unchartered worlds, hostile worlds at the very edges of space. These visits aren't part of the main story or even secondary goals, but by wandering around the galaxy you will find rewards for your troubles. You'll also feel a sense of space, freedom, and size.

In another interesting tack, Mass Effect is the first game in a trilogy, which, BioWare says, will cover the lifespan of the Xbox 360's five-plus year cycle. When you finish the first game, BioWare plans to upload content in between games in an episodic fashion, filling in the story between games. Thus, when the second big title arrives, fans who stick with the downloads will know exactly what's going on."

And those who refuse to be ripped off in a pay per level gaming scheme will be...? What exactly. This better be some kinda bs.

You think you have to pay for this? Get real! :lol
You never fail to amuse us Doube D :lol

Even if you have to pay for them, its not exactly new for gamers to have to pay for new content. PC games have expansion packs. Console games have reissues like VF4:Evo, MGS3 substance, DMC3: Special Edition, and NG: Black. Nothing new here.

You'll be missing out on extra content. It's not hard to understand.

Well maybe for you, but for normal people it's not hard.

The way it's worded would suggest the content is free. But who knows?

I love how you've already determined it to be a "ripoff" when we don't know the amount of content these episodes will have, and at what price (if any).

Shame about your posting habit - Post first, think later. :lol

You are a retard. Sorry but its true. Your reading comprehension skills are nonexistent. Try reading the original quote before opening your mouth. Need help? here, READ this:

What do you gather is the implication of that statement?? That those who do not download the extra content (micro transaction implementation ahoy) will be left out of the loopÂ… the loop being the story and thus wonÂ’t have a clue where the official sequel picks up.

Does that register with you? NO? read again. Still no? one more time??...sheesh

I swear to god the number of mentally challenged gaffers is astounding.

yeah i don't like the sounds of that either. I also don't like this new trend of planned trilogy's. What if the first game bombs? will we be left in the lurch with an unfinished story? I liked it better when bioware rpg's where giant 60 hour epics that you only had to pay for once.

i'm still hyped for this game though. it could be great.

Ripped off? If people enjoy the game so much, they feel inclined to get the extra levels. What's wrong with that?

If you don't want it, don't buy it! It's not like someone is holding a knife to your throat and forcing you to.

Do you need a tissue? I can always post a picture of a tissue box to make you feel better.

Wow i swear!! CAN YOU READ THE WHOLE FUCKING QUOTE???????????

I couldn't careless if people spend their entire life savings on a game. More power to them. My concern is for those who enjoyed the first game and want to continue the trilogy without having to pay for extra in-between levels. READ MY PREVIOUS POST.

This is a ridiculous assumption. Why couldn't the sequel summarize the events that took place during the episodic content? How hard would that be? Why would MS make people that didn't buy the downloads unable to play the sequels? You may not be able to play through the events between the main games, but I sincerely doubt that you won't be brought up to speed at some point during the sequel, even if you don't know everything that is going out as soon as you start the game.

They may not be holding a knife to people's throats, but it is clearly stated that if you want to know the complete story, you'll probably need to pay extra (I can't see MS making these free). Obviously this could be really crappy if they are inportant story pieces for the next game, or not so crappy if they are just side stories or something like that.

It may be a ridiculous assumption but it isn't mine. It arises direct from the quote from ign that states explicitly that THOSE WHO KEEP UP WITH THE DOWNLOADS will know exactly what is going on in the sequel. Why make a statement like that if everyone will be updated? If anything is at fault here, it is either IGN's reporting or Bioware's marketing scheme.

Oh, they probably will. It will most likely be very similar to the Halo 2 map pack. Want to know more about the story now? Download for $1 this week.. then 2 months from now, etc. It makes them a small pittance, but also keeps interest in the game high I suppose.

If you are willing to wait they will probably put it all on the next game when it releases, or worse yet a special edition that costs $5 more :) haha

Filling in the gaps between sequels is nothing new. Star Wars fans have been reading books and comics that FILL IN THE GAPS between movies for years to know EXACTLY WHATS GOING ON but it hasn't prevented millions of other people knowing MOSTLY what's going on when they watch the new movies.

I can see how anyone wouldn't want Bioware to make extra content available during the 2 year wait between sequels.

Hope the travel between planets is like a space shooter type game, instant travel between planets like in Kotor was allright and all, i just wanna get into space battles and rob ships like a Pirate :P

Cripes, this and Too Human are really starting to sound extremely similar... This better not be all Bioware is doing this gen either, or I'm going to be seriously disappointed.
