IGN - People Are Already Camping Out for an Nvidia RTX 5090, Despite Retailer Warning About the January Cold

Don't they have jobs?
This is how people "Work" nowadays, scalping, be a criminal, sit on youre ass at home "progaming" or "working on AI" sit on youre ass at home as a "influencer/streamer". The world today is just opportunits desperatly doing theire stuff.

Do they even have jobs to have time for this? Like, how does someone without a job afford something that costs 2 grand?

It's a real question, I don't live in the US, and here in my country, a 5090 almost costs the same as a used 2019 Honda Civic.

This is what happens why console players switch to PC. More PC users = more demand

At mine and @Topher age you know what would happen to our backs if we slept in a tent on the sidewalk for days?

You talk as if I am much younger. I am 43. If I see the card in front of me and I want it then I'll buy it. But I am not gonna camp out to spend 4k Canadian on a card. That would be the ultimate idiot to be honest.

" Look at this mofo sleeping outside in a tent to pay 4k" if that isn't the ultimate doofies, then I don't know what is.

True so your back would probably be destroyed as well if you attempted sleeping on the sidewalk for a few nights :)

Securing a 5090 and suffering from hypothermia is a calculated risk.

Just make sure you have enough left over for the hospital bills.

Camping out has bothered me since I was a teen. I've changed my opinions of a lot of things over the years, not that. People have a right to do whatever they want, but every time I see it, optically, it's just such a sad display.

And I don't think retailers need to warn about cold, you will kinda get the idea the second you walk out the door.

I mean. I never did it when I was a teen. But I was very tempted around the release of the PS2 days.

Luckily I had a friend who worked at micro play store and he put one on the side for me to pick up in the afternoon when all the crazy people left.

If this was summer or cool weather time and I was a young without wife or kids or strong commitment to be home ? I would probably do it.

Not in the winter though fuck that lol.

Im getting a Asus 5080 tuff to upgrade my 3080FE if they're around $1200. I could afford the 5090FE but i cant afford it melting out of warranty and already had a 3080 die on me at launch with RT enabled in cyberpunk...

They're nerds who are passionate about tech and are excited to be the first one to get the hot new thing. It's dorky but also kinda cool that some people are that hyped about it.

Ah who am I kidding, they're probably scalpers. I've seen rumors that scalped 5090s are going for $4000

Imagine not being able to wait for few months, 3 at most in this case. Like is your 4090 completely outdated junk now that a 30% faster gpu is out?

If they're scalpers they could be clearing $500-1000/day of waiting. That's good money for sitting around watching anime and playing Steam deck.

People are simply ridiculous.

Reminds me of the apple crazies who line up to buy the newest Iphone

Bunch of losers!! They should be home with their girlfriends making love!!
I'm going to assume most of them don't have girlfriends. But with the price they're paying for a 5090 they couldn't certainly buy one for a night.

That's sad

Never in my life I will camp for a product

Watch scalpers be stuck with Blackwell due to low demand like what happened with Ada. Get rek'd

Where do they go to the bathroom?
One of my nephews camped out several years ago for great seats at a sporting event and he had 2 friends with him and they basically took shifts holding their spot in line

Would be funny though if Microcenter decided to go with some sort of lottery system assuring everyone at least a shot

Microcenter doesn't usually allow camping until the evening before. I wonder if this attention will get them kicked off the property.

Imagine being the security guard who has to poke their head into one of those tents to tell the occupants to leave? :messenger_hushed:

I hope these are independently wealthy enthusiasts just doing this for some twisted sense of "Fun."

Like if you are really camping 4 days to scalp something... is there not better ways to #grind for money? lol Like how much can someone make anyways?

I was at the Irvine Micro Center a week or two ago and asked the staff about the launch, and they said they don't allow for overnight stay at their parking lot. not that I plan on camping out anyway. I'm only interested in the FE cards and they said they probably won't have it.
