IGN Posts BF4 Comparison Video

-_- c'mon Brett.

There's no fucking way that you are going to tell me that the IGN quality isn't substantially worse than some from here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pc4i8hARuGE on 1080P setting.

Of course Gamersyde is our best option. I'm just saying that the IGN footage looks compressed as hell and it's basically useless. At least having something on YouTube would show differences better.

Considering people are trying to get an accurate representation of next gen graphics via BF4 the fact that we are using either source for this is semi laughable. I posted this in the pre 12 AM BF4 thread too that it's funny that everyone is hyped for compressed video footage to see just how great next gen consoles are.

For the most part they look pretty much the same to me. Except them jaggies are on full deployment on xbone.

MP looks pretty different though. Xbone version looks like they forgot to turn the lighting effects on.

Hmmm, my eyes are terrible but I am not seeing a great deal in difference although I imagine this is something better seen in person.

Killzone looks so much better than this game btw.

I like the effort but comparisons are almost pointless with the formats these sites are using.
This much is obvious, but feeding the fire is hilarious.

And to be fair, it does mean a lot more media is out there for this fine looking game.

I don't think it's fair to use images to compare the games unless they're taken from a capture card. Are we really comparing a screenshot of the Xbox One version from a Youtube video vs an image that Jackfrags took with his capture card?

People should forget the screen caps, certainly screen caps mixed from different sources, and just watch the video.

The major difference between current gen BF4 and next gen BF4 is:
* Higher framerate (mostly 60 vs more or less 30)
* Higher resolution
* Finer details

All these things are things that are very easily lost in youtube (or similar) footage. The framerate will be chopped in half, and the increased resolution and finer details will be smudged by compression.

If you have a 1080p monitor, turn on 1080p on any of the videos then go fullscreen. That's not how 1080p looks.

Yup. We really need direct feed.

difference is pretty noticeable. resolution and aliasing especially. I guess its a good thing Im not interested in the series whatsoever. yikes at the xbox one, though. just yikes.

for the amount of scrutiny that goes into these comparisons, the sources provided sure are horrific

anyway, it looks like the xbox version is at a a lower res and has no motion blur

also they both look like youtube videos

Holy shit, there is a HUGE difference here. wow, how could MS dropp the ball like that.

MP looks like a Xbox game on XBONED. The pop in is scary.

I have no idea what the fuck is going on in this thread. The PS4 multiplayer looks like shit, too, yet the reactions would suggest that the Xbox version is a disaster of Hindenburg proportions whereas the PS4 version is the Sistine Chapel. Confirmation bias, anyone?

And I'm not a fanboy for either system -- in fact, I'm incredibly disappointed by Microsoft's business plan for the Xbox one. I'm just not seeing the magnitude of difference that you guys are seeing.

There isn't a magnitude of difference. Overall the visuals are seriously underwhelming.

You can't really take Ign's multiplayer footage for the Xbox one and Ps4 seriously, because the Ps4's multiplayer footage looks much better in the jackfrag guy's videos, than Ign's. By a lot btw...

So I checked Jackfrag's stuff and you're right. The PS4 multiplayer looks like shit here as well in comparison to the other video. Maybe there's something funky with this map.

In motion the differences are far more pronounced.

I don't either...

PS4 looks good and will definitely look superior once people get to see this on big screen due to higher res, higher FPS, and motion blur. This IGN video doesn't really show much at all though because the quality is way too shitty.

What I could see;

-Both frame rates looked reasonable to me.
- Negligible difference in visual quality on environment and objects at near distance/
- At medium to far distances, the Xbox One shows significantly more aliasing than the PS4 version. Night and day difference.
- Still both versions exhibit more aliasing than I would have expected.
- Both versions no where near the quality I would expect of next gen hardware.

Basically, it's a crap shoot. Neither version looks amazing, it just happens one looks less than less amazing than the other.

Joke post:

DF BF4 Face-off:

Although the frame rate is slightly more stable and there's a fraction of less aliasing on the PS4, we prefer the rougher, grittier look and lighting of the Xbox One version. A more balanced version, overall.

Oh my. I'm not the biggest Battlefield aficionado, but that was pretty spectacular.

First one, the flooded map just looks incredible. The second one's lighting is insanely beautiful. Right before sundown. The third one, all those green hills and mountains! The fourth one has that sexy rain/ocean. The fifth one may not be the most visually wow'ing, but it has those amazing sound effects with echoes.

Are you looking forward to Youtube making your game look like shit? Because I am!

Please dear god give Gamersyde some footage
Not to thread hijack, but yes, we'e been pretty forthcoming with direct feed videos so far - there's a lot on Gamersyde.

I'm sure there will be just as much Battlefield content over there soon. Stuff just takes time - especially with these weird review events and embargos all over the place.

A website just needs to put out a high bit rate web player - I guess Digital Foundry is generally the best... I mean, they support 60.

I don't see how anyone can discern a massive difference from that IGN video because the compression is unbelievably bad. I threw it up on my TV and even at the '1080p' setting it was a blurry pixelated mess. All I could think of was how both sides just looked like garbage, especially with a lot of movement.

Of all the videos released the JackFrags ones look the best by a considerable amount IMO. His PS4 multiplayer videos look great and when I watch those back to back with videos of XBO single player I can definitely see where he's coming from. PS4 multiplayer looks really good.

Honestly, for all the talk about the res difference, the oversaturation/contrast on the XBO footage is what bugs me the most. It reminds me of when you go look at TVs at Best Buy and they have the contrast and picture settings all cranked way too high. PS4 footage definitely has a softer more natural look to it that I suspect looks even better when you're playing the game in person.

if we are getting this level of difference in a multiplat, crossgen game then holy shit the difference we will see in a true exclusive PS4 game compared to a Xboned game.

Biggest difference is the jaggies, and I'm really curious about how that will be handled moving forward. For BF4 on PS4, they seemed to handle it with the vaseline of FXAA, while XBO it seems to be non-existent. Although neither option is good, I guess FXAA is better than nothing. But I really hope the PS4 isn't going to rest on FXAA blurriness to get us through this gen, especially from the first party titles.

I guess if we get pure 1080p games pixel matched with our TV's, it won't be as bad.

Okay come on people.

I can't fucking see a difference. Maybe barely more jaggies on the X1? Multiplayer looks barely worse but the gap is almost unsubstantial. SP looks identical sans the resolution. Content wise the visuals are on par. Wake me when we start seeing missing foliage, graphical effects, objects, etc like in the old PS3 vs 360 days.

Also the quality is utter garbage from every posted source so far. We might as well compare them at 360p with all of the included compression and inability to see the true framerate clearly.

i did the vpn trick this morning and have been playing bf4 all day. ive had to pick my jaw up off of the floor a few times. over the past few days with all the news about xbone being 720 and blah blah blah i was curious to see just how big of a difference there would be between xbone and ps4...they both look like shit if you ask me.

Debatable. I swear sometimes I'd prefer they not have any AA.

This map looks so fucking awesome. Select 1440p Quality. (Imagine this at 60 FPS), Youtube can only display 30fps videos.

Cheers! Looking forward to your game and good luck with the delay and all, hope it's coming along well.

The indoor shots at 02:45 are the most divergent, the image quality is certainly not on par, 02:51 actually looks like two separate games.

We're already seeing missing effectcs. Motion blur and AO arent cheap.

yeah, I honestly shocked after the hullabaloo these past couple of days. Need some direct footage to really judge, but right now the difference is so miniscule that I really don't care. If I have a PC (which I do :) ), I'd probably be playing this game on that.
Take anything I say with a grain of salt, I work for MS though I really don't have a pony in this fight.

System comparisons aside, the 'jump' of this enemy between running and death animation around 1:38 in the video is not perfectly seamless...maybe it's cherry picking, but it's very obvious.

To be honest, I think both Xbox One and PS4 BF4 fans will be pleased, unless you compare them side by side, it doesn't look like, in this case, you will notice (maybe in the MP).

Can't wait for CoD: Ghosts comparison though :D

Seriously it's been 8 years since the 360 launched and the Xbone is coming in at $500 and THIS is what we get for MP graphics?!?!?!

I don't see how anyone can accept this. And yes the PS4 looks better, but it's hardly a "next gen" show case either.

Let's wait for the true next-gen Battlefield, without the cross-gen releases.

To quote the parrot.

Fuck man-
1. This is a launch title.
2. This title is running at 60 FPS.
3. This title does not take advantage of customizations and esoteric hardware specific programming.
4. This title is coming out on a stupid amount of consoles, PC, and next-gen. Cross generation bullshit.

Yea, it's not a gigantic leap.

But titles like Shadow Fall, Second Son, and Ryse have shown us what next gen is capable of. Lets wait a little till we absolutely shit on it.
