IGN Posts BF4 Comparison Video

Game still has that janky PC game look about it. Not sure how to exactly describe it. But it looks like a PC game made for hardware that does not exist yet. So you have to play it on lower settings and it looks a little janky.

Still, I do love the gameplay in BF games a lot. I played hundreds of hours of them. I just don't like them visually much at all. And this new one does not seem to make things better.

"Rambo, what brings you good luck?"

Honestly I'm wrestling with the idea of selling my preordered PS4 now. This new hardware just isn't impressive, especially when I could spend that cash on a new video card for my PC. I feel like my current PC setup would get me better or similar results as these vids, and that's on a 570 GTX!

Shadowfall is the only thing holding me back.

Man, I look at these and realize these are launch games. This would be like perfect dark zero in comparison. Makes me wonder what games on these consoles are going to look like in five years.

Yeah. I think most of people forget that these are launch games where development started with target hardware and insufficient dev tools. Just go back to 2006 and first Resistance. It was pretty much Xbox game with HD resolution. Damn it's ugly by todays standards.

It's so odd that people don't understand that you could get better visuals on a gaming rig. We already knew what the hardware looked like and you needed a video to justify canceling your next gen console purchase?

I personally don't own and don't want to own a gaming desktop any more. 400 dollars to get what we saw on the ps4 side looks great to me.

I'm not seeing the huge difference others claim to. The PS4 version still looks blurry, especially in MP, and there is still almost no difference other than aliasing. I even paused and inspected image quality - it is not taking a hit, and textures seem hit or miss on both versions.

After viewing both comparisons, I am honestly more concerned about both next-gen consoles now more than I am concerned about parity between them. That barely looked better than BF3 PC footage from 2 years ago.

They looked pretty similar to me aside from some stutter on the Xbone until the end of the video during multiplayer where the Xbone had really hard shadows on the building interior and they were soft shadows on the PS4.

You have to keep in mind you are watching heavily compressed videos. The game is going to look much better on your TV coming straight from the console. That also means flaws (like the XB1 aliasing and lower resolution) will be even worse as well, as that extra clarity and size of most TVs is going to show more flaws on the bigger screen.

You're considering not getting PS4 just because the launch games don't impress? Surely you can see how much better current PS3 games look than its launch titles..

In all the videos I've been watching it's too similar for me to really judge properly. This is the only title I'm double dipping and getting for both consoles at launch, and it seems like I will have to wait and see on my own setup which I prefer. If the Xbox jaggies blow up badly on my big screen the PS4 version might just have this, but both versions seem severely unoptimized on the next gen consoles.

So? Those games aren't available at launch. And the PS4 will most likely have dropped in price by that time.
It will at least have gone through slight hardware revisions.

Geez, the jaggies on the One stab my eyes. How can people gloss over that? It's painful. The single player looks really close, but the PS4 clearly pulls away in multiplayer, it's not even debatable.

Let me correct that - it is debatable, but one side of the argument is using empirical observations while the other is basing their opinion on brand name.

To be honest, I feel like I'm in bizarro world - I've spent so many years buying ever multiplayer multi platform game on the Xbox, that I'm going to have to get used to this new paradigm.

Well, didn't plan on getting BF4 but this is an interesting development. I'm sure this will improve so I'm not as concerned now. Here's hoping that Dog Power will help out the next gen COD. It can't get worse than this right?

:/

Wow, thats a quick 180. You go from considering not getting a PS4 at launch to just waiting until the first hardware revision? Heck, that might be a couple of years of gaming you will miss out on.

I am really impeessed by the ps4 footage. I played bf3 on pc with a 7970. Performance seems solid, gamw looks good.

Wish it had msaa or better aa on ps4

So... why are you basing your decision on how this cross-gen multiplatform game looks, when KZSF looks amazing and shows what the hardware can really do (well, some of what it can do, it's obviously only going to get better from here)?

All it takes is a look at video cards released in the last 3 years and then a look at the console specs.

It's not possible for consoles to be truly competitive without using much larger and powerful discrete graphics and having a much higher price point.

When it comes down to it I don't care for graphics much.

Why are we comparing PC versions to the consoles? We know the PC version is going to be the best, it is stupid not to think that. We should be comparing the consoles, the PC wins by default usually always, but if you are getting a console and bf4 on either of them then you should only be looking at the console versions.

Posting screenshots from two shitty feeds for comparison purposes is like a cock fight with two dead roosters.

No one wins, but you could make fried chicken.

Are you guys blind? X1 version clearly has motion blur too.

Both seem to be a jaggy mess. Not much difference really other than AO, but that's going to be patched day one.

PC version FTW.

lol @ people comparing it to KZ.

60fps vs variable framerate
64 players vs 24
Huge levels vs small levels
Destruction vs static world

The more powerful console looks better? People screenshotting the video acting like it's an accurate representation of the graphics?

Truly shocked by these things.

The whole thing looks like counterstrike. o_o

I saw this and was surprised about the MP footage. The Xbox version of sp looked entirely fine, but that MP... Wow. I guess the embargo makes a bit more sense now. (Edit: Definitely not Counterstrike levels, but it does look extremely flat.)

BF4 is also variable as we saw.. going even to mid 30 on Xbone...
I think the levels are huge in Shadow Fall as well, even vertical gameplay is in.
Running in native 1080p...

you have a 570 GTX or you are saying if you bought a 570GTX? If you have one, yeah... it will give you roughly the performance of PS4. At that point all a PS4 would give you are (console) exclusives.

If you are talking about after BUYING a 570 GTX, IMHO, for $100 more you would get roughly the same performance on a PS4 PLUS all of the (console) exclusives.

We'll have to see the performance of KZSF once it's released to see if framerates are comparable. On the other hand, the levels are nowhere near the size of those in BF.

tbh...i feel bad for people with these eagle eyes, that see every little detail, due to the fact that they can't handle this. Seriously though, this is not a big deal, they look very very similar. My girlfriend thinks the same, I am going to my friend after he watching a movie.

you'd think that the sort of person with 30,000 posts on a video game message board - 50 in the last 24 hours discussing a modest resolution disparity - would see the benefit in a spending a little more upfront on a gaming desktop.

A little more? Starting from scratch, how much would you need to run BF4 at 60fps ultra/max settings? Throw out monitor/keyboard/mouse (to be fair since we're not factoring in the cost of a TV)

- motherboard
- cpu
- ram
- hdd
- gpu
- fans
- case

How much would that cost? I think you're looking at at least double the price of a PS4. If I'm wrong please let me know (so that I can re-evaluate my own position on gaming rigs!)

umm.. really?

I suppose. If "good enough" was the PS3 owner mantra on multi-plats for the first half of this gen or so, no reason it can't be the mantra for XBONE owners for all of the next-gen.
