No shit. MS have given up on Xbox hardware, and you are telling us that Sony is selling more PS ?

People are saying we already knew this, but I didn't - or at least, I didn't realize the ratio was 5 to 1. That's assuming IGN is playing fair with the numbers (I didn't watch the video).

Edit: I skimmed to the part where he talked about sales, around 9:20. It seems fishy to me. He refers to a Sony financial report in which Sony announced 65 m PS5 consoles sold, and he then compares that to Xbox's 29.7 m.. Then, in the very next sentence, he says, "To break that down, for every one Xbox Series S/X console bought, 5 Playstation 5 consoles are also purchased."

Um, that doesn't follow at all. The data he just gave paints a 2 to 1 ratio. Yet he makes it sound ("to break that down"...) as if the 5 to 1 is just further elaboration on what he has just said - when actually it's contradictory. I wonder where he's getting that 5 to 1 ratio from. Maybe he mentioned it in another part of the video I didn't watch.

Edit 2: Oops, I had skimmed past (missed) the part where he explained that the 5 to 1 ratio comes from the Statista data from 2024, where they estimates Xbox sales at 2.5 million for the year. Now it makes sense.

Any 5 to 1 ratio would refer to current sales ratio, not overall sales ratio. You can't conflate the two. Confusing.

He is indeed referring to the current sales ratio.

Series S, at least, had a decent start to the generation. Sales have fallen off a cliff this last few months though.

Each time Microsoft announces a new PlayStation game it seems to damage the Xbox brand and, thus sales, further.

Forza Horizon - the Hammer

Halo - The Nail

Gear of War - The hand that hammers the Nail into the Xbox coffin.

The series generation was a silly one. They never had a chance with decisions they set in stone during the one era (day 1 game pass, pc releases, acquisitions over output)

The Series X is a solid console and a far cry from the One S disaster.

Still, the issue with Xbox this last two generations has been down to games. Their first party was severely lacking in the One generation and, just as things seemed to be turning a corner, they went completely third party at the half way point of the Series generation.

I wonder where he's getting that 5 to 1 ratio from. He does not say (maybe he mentioned it in another part of the video I didn't watch). The context he sandwiches it in between contradicts it. 2024 sales.
PS5 is at 75M, they are using numbers from September.

Phil has had a lot of plans over the years

They've all pretty much universally failed.

Result? Phil got promoted to CEO of Microsoft Gaming. The only thing this guy has been good at is convincing his boss to hand out the piggybank checkbook.
That checkbook is now zipped up, and Microsoft executives want a return on investment.

Sony may have problems, but, unlike Microsoft, failure is at least not tolerated. A person like Phil Spencer would have been shown out the door years ago if he were at Sony, and the idea of AAA games Day 1 on a Netflix-like streaming service would ensure that PlayStation games that are high quality will be essentially dead.

He's talking about HW console sales for 2024 only.

Ok. I was confused because the portion I listened to talked about total cumulative sale numbers (65m vs 30m) - not 2024, but the entire generation - then referred to a 5:1 ratio in the next sentence, as if one followed the other when the 5 to 1 seemed like a non-sequitor.

I hadn't watched the whole video, though, just that clip (I'm averse to watching IGN videos). I went back and watched the rest. I see he got the 5:1 from the Statista report, which put Xbox sales at 2.5m for 2024. Ok, gotcha.

both xbox and ps5 are trash, woke companies and no games after 4 years in.
They turned fallout and Skyrim likeness into wide range of colors environment, they don't understand tastes, there is clearly something wrong in the job industry, not just in gaming.

Only 5:1 seems low. For PS5

Oh because IGN is acting like America is the world as usual

If we go by worldwide sales it's probably more like 10:1

The Statista report he's drawing from refers to worldwide sales, not just US.
