Is Spectacular still available on Netflix? Probably not, since they love taking things up and down all the time for no reason. I binged on Spectacular when it was up. It's real good, but it also has the worst JJJ.

Just to show how amazing the 90s theme was. Check the montage of the new movies with that theme song

Seriously watch it!!!!

That's real good, same with the one done by the same guy with the B:tAS theme set to the Arkham games.

Spectacular Spiderman where it should be. I grew up with 90s Spider-Man and enjoyed it throughly, but that shit isn't on the same level as Spectacular. Also did enjoy Spider-Man and His Amazing friends. Watched "A Firestar is Born" god knows how many times on VHS. Glad that's not ranked last.

Everything else is irrevlevant to me, don't care how they're ranked.

Top 2 is correct. I loved 90s Spidey growing up but it has definitely aged poorly from an animation standpoint. Spectacular is the stronger show.

Spider-Man 1967 should be #3 for the memes it has generated alone. I have a hard time rewatching that show and not laughing my ass off at some of those shots.

I love the guitar riffs, but those "vocals..." Ugh.

Ultimately, I think I concur with the list overall, though I suffer from not having seen everything in its entirety. Spider-Man '94 being at number 2 is mostly because Spider-Man's track record of animated series is pretty abysmal overall.

1994 Spider-Man TAS was the best. One of my favorite cartoon shows ever. I tried watching the later Spider-Man animated shows but they just weren't as good. I always liked Christopher Daniel Barnes voicing Peter/Spidey, and even though I didn't play Spider-Man: Edge of Time, it was cool to hear his voice again.

The intro of the 1994 show kicks ass. They also hit the major plotlines and did a decent job with everything in general (got weird at the end in season 5 with the clones, and I can see some recycled scenes that look out of place in certain episodes).

Not to stray off topic, but I always considered Batman Beyond as the spiritual sequel of the 1990s Spider-Man TAS. Both shows instantly clicked with me and felt familiar in a lot of ways.

This thread warms my heart with Spectacular Spider-Man love. It's truly the best.

If it had gone on for a few more seasons, it would have probably been Batman TAS levels of ultimate de-facto representation of the character. Now it's just the best Spider-Man media ever that pains my heart that it's gone.

My Bluray set comes in tomorrow.

Why is everyone shitting on Ultimate? I started watching it with my son on Netflix and it's pretty fun.
I don't get the hate either. I haven't seen any other Spidey animated series, but Ultimate isnt quite as awful as this thread would have people believe.

Ultimate is ok. It has a nice look to it and the animation is actually good.

A lot of forced humor, and a little to no focus on character development. It's weird cause I like Iron Fist on that show more than I do the annoying tryhard Spidey.

Spectacular shits on it though.

I wish it also included live action, so we could include the timeless 70s Spiderman TV Show.

Oh yeah!

Spec was fun, but 90's will always be my favourite.

Recently bought the series on dvd and rewatched the six forgotten warrior saga, so so good. Watching it for the first time without the scene switching goof(a later scene was mistakenly shown before the things that led up to it, confusing the hell of viewers back then) was great too.

Magneto Electro(who believes in everything magneto hates) is best Electro

I recently watched through Spider-man '94 and am going to go against popular opinion and say that it still holds up very well. Yes - the censorship is pretty weak, the flashbacks in later episodes are tedious when marathoning the show as an adult, and the obvious CGI is obvious. Still, the show remains extremely compelling.

Spectacular was awesome, as was the MTV show. Amazing Friends is also a heap of corny fun. Solid list, but I'd be lying if I said '94 wasn't still my favorite. I ranked it as my favorite American animated show of all time in another thread (sorry Batman TAS/Batman Beyond).

Oh spectacular spider man ends on a cliffhanger? I might buy it...

Off topic, but does the Justice League animated series hold up?

Well my 2 year thinks it's the bomb, if I tried to show him 94 he would probably wonder off and do something else like he did when I tried to show him batman beyond.

He is two. You expect him to enjoy something like Beyond? Think he needs to be at least a little older.

I was making a joke guy lol. He watch the same damn mickey mouse show on Netflix daily. He is pretty smart though, he can open the netflix app on my Nexus 7 and play it on the chromecast.

I can't handle the '94 show anymore. I tried to rewatch it on Netflix but it just has the craziest pacing.

The show just never stops to take a breath.

Off topic, but does the Justice League animated series hold up?

Yes, it's excellent. Justice League Unlimited is the follow up and is also excellent.

Yes. Justice League Unlimited season 3&4 are among the best animated drama the west has done. Nearly Avatar levels. Also excellent fight scenes.

The rest is good too.

Spectacular gets such stellar reviews that I feel I need to watch it. Loved the 90s series.

Ultimate is shit though. Wish it could take itself seriously for more than 2 minutes.

The 1967 Spider-Man series is a bit deceptive, as it is really two different shows rolled into one.

The first season was created by some Canadian animation company called Grantray-Lawrence Animation, and it's generally the extremely campy version of this show that most are familiar with. Characters were very one dimensional, Jamison was hilariously awesome. Plots were just silly.

Season 2 and 3 on the other hand were directed by Ralph Bakshi's animation company in New York, and was a reboot of the series. Season 2 and 3 completely changed the character personalities of all the main cast. It tried to make them more fleshed out and a bit darker in tone. Jamison in season 2 and 3 was a lot more subdued than his wacky counterpart in the first season, and these seasons focused more on Peter Parker's character. But sadly the budget was smaller compared to the first season, which forced the animators to recycle frames of animation from season 1. But the original art and animation that was produced for season two had much better framing, nicer painted backgrounds and was a little more stylish than season one. But there was also this really bad clashing of styles between the season 1 and season 2 animation. By season 3 though the show got really psychedelic and weird as they were recycling animation from other shows that weren't Spider-Man related.

I kinda did like season two and three of the 1960's show, for what it was. If only Bakshi had a bigger budget, his version could've been really awesome.

Also, on the list. I really enjoyed the 1994 Spider-Man a lot when I was a kid. I really liked the crossovers it had with the X-men series. The Spectacular Spider-Man was great too, but those designs always felt a tad bit off with me. I dunno.

cartoon = animated series? if so then hell fucking no.

This is the GOAT.

Nothing will ever beat this series, NOTHING.

This still sits as my number 1 comic book adaption. Though I always kinda liked the HBO Spawn animated series as well, even though it had some dodgy animation. The MaXX was another one, it was short but I really loved the art in that one.

That's it's charm, though.

The '67 cartoon is one of my first memories of Spider-man (caught re-runs in the 70s and loved it as a kid). It's just so quirky and oddly paced, but in a way that's fascinating. It will always be my favorite, for some reason. I mean, it had a giant robot walking around eating cars.

Also, has one of the best theme songs in TV history.

In COLOR!

I feel like 90% of the budget for SM:TAS went towards its writing. I was around 9 when it came out and I couldn't take my eyes away from this show. It taught me so much about the lore of that universe the same way Batman: TAS did.

I ordered Spectacular Spiderman on blu-ray yesterday thanks to this thread. I'm about six episodes in and it's pretty great so far. The art style is super charming and the animation is really impressive all-around (not just in the action scenes). Really fun writing, too.

is that Spiderman or Superman?

I haven't watched Spidey'94 in forever but I feel whenever I see a new animated series or movie, that the writing, when it comes to Spidey's quips, are nowhere near as good as how I remember 94's to be.

All this Spectacular love is making me thinking about checking it out

94 and that OG intro x ASM video is number 1 (for now)
