How is it so many people haven't seen Spectacular? It's arguably the best superhero cartoon ever.

I couldnt connect with Spectacular. It always feelt as I were to old for it (I dont want to say that the series is for kids with this). Beside that, didnt add they strange things like making Harry to Venom?

That's Ultimate. Which is pretty bad, but still better than the crappy CGI version.

1994 is better than Spectacular. Spectacular's pacing was way too fast due to Weisman wanting to squeeze in everything he wanted to do. 1994 had good season-wide story arcs.

cartoon = animated series? if so then hell fucking no.

This is the GOAT.

Nothing will ever beat this series, NOTHING.

I'll represent Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends because none of you whippersnappers will!

I just finished the entire run on Netflix and holy crap I don't remember it being as insane as it is!

Spidey vs Dracula! (Dracula owns alligators)

Spidey falls in love and leaves earth!

This episode is one long WAT.

There's even one where Pac Man comes out of the arcade machine and starts gobbling up Empire State University! Oh how I love the Spider-Friends, especially Firestar, she's hot.

They got 1 and 2 right.

I do enjoy the longer arcs and better character development of the 90s cartoon quite a bit, but Spectacular just gets more right overall. To me the trade offs put them about equal in my mind.

What I like about Beyond is that it can exist side by side with TAS, no need to put one over the other, they're both kickass.
Well it is a continuation of TAS. I like how Beyond has a kind of Batman we haven't seen much before(one that actually cares about his personal life).

I always found it funny that Firestar was basically Mary Jane with fire powers. Just look at her. They are exactly the same.

Yeah, S&AF was a really fun show. I'd put it in third place "Spider-Man: The New Animated Series" sucked so I can't see it being third.

Imagine if it had a full run :-(. Show could've went to some amazing places.

Most of the 1994 series doesn't even look like it was storyboarded lol. The nostalgia of it works, but it doesn't touch spectacular which was better animated, had better archs, writing, and story.

Looks like I need to look into Spectacular since a lot of GAF is in agreement about its greatness.

I should give Ultimate a chance too. Haven't really tried watching it.

I gotta admit, the 3D shit in '94 Spidey was awful. But it's still what I associate most with Spider-Man due to being my first exposure to the character when I was young.

What I like about Beyond is that it can exist side by side with TAS, no need to put one over the other, they're both kickass.

Yup. The Batman cartoons are in a league of their own. I don't think any other superhero cartoon even begins to compare.

Spectacular is a well-deserved #1.

I loved '94 at the time, but I mean, it does not hold up well at all. So much terrible animation and weird censorship restrictions. (Examples: Morbius couldn't bite people (although his hand suckers were probably more terrifying), people "got sent to another dimension", and every cop had insane future lasers.)

Spectacular and the 90's animated series spiderman are definitely my favorite spiderman shows. Spectacular does storytelling fantasticaly and the animated series is simply an amazing saturday morning cartoon.

The censorship was so weird because X-Men was on at the same time and not subjected to the same censorship. No one at Fox had an issue with Wolverine punches dudes, but Spidey had to win all his fights by flinging things around or having people run into things.

I still need to watch Spectacular, but the character designs always stop me. They're just so ugly.

I feel like the hate for Unlimited is unwarranted. It was different but good. And I liked the voices for Venom and Carnage.

The only thing I hate about that show is that it ended on a cliffhanger.

Fuck Sony for cancelling Spectacular Spiderman. seriously best cartoon in forever forever....bleh. i miss it. time for a rewatch.

they dont have control over the TV rights, brother...

you can look at MARVEL themselves for that one.

i always liked the 1994 series... i don't think i've actually seen any of the others, though!

That's a good list. Surprised at how many people here would rank the 94 as best here. It doesn't hold up at all. It's no Batman TAS that's for sure.

I think both seasons of Spectacular Spider-Man are up on Crackle if anyone is interested in checking them out.

Watched the 94 version and loved it at the time. I think I've caught first episode of Spectacular and remember it didn't impress me much. Will try to give it a second shot.

I'm normally not a person to put much stock into something like "Camp Value" but the 60's series should place higher because of it.

Was "Amazing Friends" really that good? It seemed like it was really hokey on first glance.

In terms of capturing the essence of the characters, I think it's actually pretty close. I also appreciated SSM's attempts to do more long-form story-telling, which I can't really recall B:TAS doing much of.

wonder how many people here have actually watched the 1994 series recently

I did in the last year or two. I think it holds up better than what people say, but it definitely is cheap and has some bizarre voice acting direction at times. And it went completely off the rails by the end of the run. It's certainly at the bottom of the Batman/X-Men/Spiderman triad.

I've never seen Spectacular Spider-Man.

...at least I don't remember if I did. The cartoons from around that time period just sort of blended into a unspectacular goo.

Personally, I like the 90s and 60s variants.

1994 is definitely the best.
And I liked S&AF, good times.
spider-man-1994-2.jpg

What is going on in this pic? Carnage, Venom and Spidey socializing?

Spectacular is easily the best. Anyone who hasn't watched it, give it a shot. I grew up on '94, but caught Spectacular as it was ending it's run. It's the best video representation of Spider-man ever. I don't say that lightly.

That last arc in the series was so fucking weird. When Spider-Man showing up in an alternate universe, which happens to be our universe in which Spider-Man is just a super popular comic book character, just to meet Stan Lee is one of the least bizarre things that happens, you have been dipping into the company coke pile too often.
