IGN Reviews Capcom Classics Collection...

For 20.00 dollars I can't complain....but Id pay 50 for perfect ports of SFII .......I compared it to my old SF collection Ps1 and it doesn't even look as good image quality wise ( at least the ps1 version fills the screen and the voices don't sound a high pitched) but for twenty dollars thats pretty minor stuff.......plus Id pay 20 just for final fight which looks to be perfect. The Gng games are just icing.

I would really like to know the justification of half-assed PORTS coming from PROFESSIONAL DEVS WITH ACCESS TO SOURCE CODES when mame and other emulators can play them PERFECTLY using THE ORIGINAL ARCADE ROMS on xbox and pc?

Seriously now?

someone posted this list on the GameFAQ forum he said he not speculating here.

Doesn't Lucas own the rights to Willow? I find it hard to believe that game will show up on a comp any time soon, but I hope I'm wrong.

Yes.

You won't ever see Willow, Nemo, Duck Tales, AVP or any of those other licenced games on any compilations.

100% agree.

Just got CCC, and i gotta say i like it alot.

Don't know why you guys complain about the screen ratio. It's cool that Digital Eclipse allows you to adjust it.

While emulators & roms are the closest to replication, ports are nice since they could go back and enhance it. The remix musik for example is something i definitely enjoy in this collection, cause most of the CPS1 games sound just plain TERRIBLE (the NES sounds better).

Capcom does have some sort of Disney license, all those NES & SNES like Ducktales, Rescue Ranger, Mickey Magical Adventure, etc, etc might be possible

I wanna see a GBA CCC jampacked with NES games. :)

They could even do a Disney licensed one filled with just stuff like DuckTales 1-2, Little Mermaid, Chip N' Dale 1-2, Talespin, Darkwing Duck, etc. HOTT!!

the list I posted, is suppose to be for the PSP version of CCC. The person at Gamefaqs.com said thier is a video that you unlock that is advertising for the PSP, and those are the games they showed.

Forgotten Worlds

Magic Sword

Captain Commando

Speed Rumbler

Hmm...

Now that I think about it...with DuckTales, Rescue Rangers and the rest coming to dvd this year(and more shows next year), maybe Capcom might want to cash in on that.

There might be a chance after all.

Anyone play Forgotten Worlds yet? If so, how are the controls? I know the arcade had a unique firing control and I assume that the Dual Analog should be able to emulate that fairly well but I was wondering what those people who've played it have to say?

Unless you have to unlock every extra for all the 22 games on the collection, I don't see what the criteria is for unlocking this PSP advertisment video. The only "extra" you get by default when you access the "Capcom Extras" is a video for the upcoming Street Fighter Alpha Generations anime from Manga Entertainment.

I'm really digging all the games on this compilation (I got the Xbox version). Even though I have all 5 Capcom Generations volumes on the Saturn, it's far easier and accessible to have all these games on one disc....heh.

My only gripes about this collection is that the audio presentation (esp. the music) for all the games sound "tinny" with no "punch" to them. Even when you crank up the music volume in the Audio Options to the max for all the games, it still lacks loud energy and pizzaz. Some audio bugs here and there mar the overall presentation as well.

By default, all games are minimally "sized". Sure you can adjust the screen size to fit your monitor properly, but why didn't Digital Eclipse do this in the first place is beyond me (thanks for making me do this manually for all 22 games....ugh!). Also, you can't move the overall position of the screen.....weak.

As for controls for all the games, you can only augment the "primary" buttons. Meaning, you can't customize and assign, say....special attack moves, to other buttons. Weak again! So, if you were thinking about assigning one button for the special attack moves for Guy, Cody, and Haggar in Final Fight, you're outta luck. You gotta push both Punch and Jump buttons just to do your Area Clearing Move. Boo!

Speaking of Final Fight, the intro. doesn't have Jessica in the scene. Sure she was in the Japanese version, but would it have hurt to include it for "proper presentation's" sake? And what's up with the dude saying "Oh, My God!" instead of "Oh, My Car"?

Oh well, I look forward to Capcom Classics Collection: Volume 2. Look on the spine on the game case and it says "Volume 1".....a sign that future retro goodness is down the road. ^_^

wait -- the psp version will have a substantially different lineup? that's a nice selection, but i want g+g on the go!

Yes drohne. Like the other poster said, games like Strider, Captain Commando, Magic Sword, and 3 Wonders were shown. I think the GnG games are still on it.

Kumiko, you don't actually think Capcom would put an ad for a PSP game on the Xbox version, do you?

:P

It's not like the PSP demographic is directly competing with the Xbox demographic. Or rather, Sony competing with Microsoft. Oh wait....

That's what he says in the original arcade version.

Weird, so they have the names from the Japanese version, but the intro from the US? What the hell? Was Jessica in a bra on the TV too hot for our North American eyes?

Sodom and Damnd had those names in the US arcade version. The change to Thrasher and Katana wasn't until the SNES port.

well, if the psp version has the classics collection stuff PLUS strider, magic sword, etc., then I LUV U CAPCOM.

in the arcade Final Fight, the dude said "Oh, My God!"
but in the SFC/SNES/GBA versions (Final Fight, Final Fight Guy, Final Fight One) the dude said "Oh, My Car".

iirc, in the SegaCD and obscure Sharp X68000 versions of Final Fight, the dude said
"Oh, My God" also.

I could have sworn that in the U.S. arcade version, the dude said "Oh, My Car!"......but that was back in 1987, so eh I guess so.

Well, I just played through the Sega C.D. version, and the dude in fact says "Oh, My Car!" instead of "Oh, My God!".

I bought CCC today. I love it. Absolutely love it.

So far I've played the G&G games, Final Fight, Forgotten Worlds, Trojan, and SFII Turbo.

This is probably the best collection of games I've have ever seen for a home console by far. I was impressed with everything that I've tried so far except for SFII Turbo b/c it loads briefly between fights. Other than that everything is top notch. Unlike a lot of other collections I've seen this one lets you customize a lot of stuff for each game including the controls, the sfx volume, and the music volume. This may not seem like a lot but believe me it is. The menus are very easy to navigate as well.

This game is worth it for Final Fight alone. I had gotten so used to playing FF on the SNES and GBA over the years that I totally forgot just how awesome the arcade version really is. There are lots of times when you will face 8-10 enemies at once with molotov cocktails being thrown and everything. It can get pretty crowded really quick and the best part is that there isn't any slow down like in the other versions. So freaking awesome.

Bought my copy today.

Holy shit, it's great.

Ghosts n' Goblins/Ghouls 'n Ghosts/sgng are all great, of course.

There's something odd about the Street Fighter games, though. For some reason I find the SF games on this disk a lot easier to control than the Street Fighter Anniversary collection. I'm using the Capcom Street Fighter controller, and I'm finding special moves and combos much easier to pull off than the previous collection. How odd.

Also, 1943 Kai is HARD. I can't believe how weak I've become, but this game is kicking my ass!

I think the reason for the SF2 load times is that it's infact the PSX version of generations 5/SF Collection 2, and they did little to nothing to optimize it. The sound effects are louder and better then the SF2/CE/T versions of characters in HSF2. I love the hard punch sound effect in SF2, it's like THWACK. Much better then the wimpy SSF2 sounds.

I noticed the same thing almost immediately but I was using a regular controller. Its not just you.

Oh, good then it's not just me!

I can't figure out what it is.

But when I play the games on this collection, it feels much more second nature.

But the Anniversary Collection feels...different. For example, I'll perform a Dragon Punch and end up doing a Fireball. And vice versa.

uh, the ps2 version isn't notably worse than the xbox version, is it? i just bought the ps2 version, so this is probably the kind of question i should have asked beforehand...

The PS2 version has slightly longer load times, and for some odd reason the voices/sound effects are pitched higher for some games (ex: Street Fighter II games).

Content-wise, the PS2 version has the PSP Capcom Classics Collection and Devil Kings trailers. Xbox version only has SF Alpha Generations anime trailer.

so no big drawbacks, and i get to use my joysticks...i'll stick with the ps2 version, then. thanks.

You can't be serious?

I can't seem to pull off Zangief's spinning pile driver, and Guile's flash kick seems a bit trickier to perform. If anything, i would say the controls are more refined in the sequels.

Still good controls overall though.

What are Block Block and Speed Rumbler? Never heard of those. Also the Avengers game was made by Data East, not Capcom.

Oh, no, I wasn't referring to the sequels, meaning Super SFII, SSFII Turbo, and the Alpha series.

I was only referring to the Anniversary Collection. It's only there where I have difficulty pulling off certain moves. I used to think it was because the "Street Fighter" controller was a POS, but I have no problem using it with the Street Fighters contained in the Capcom Collection.

Actually, there is an earlier arcade game made by Capcom that goes by the name "Avengers", and has nothing to do with Captain America or Marvel.

it was clearfied later. that the avengers game was the charriots game form wounders 3. I suspect the Block Block game is the puzzle game form wounders 3.

Black Dragon
I want to believe!!! (jp name for Black Tiger)

Anniversary Collection is still a sequel more or less.

Which characters' moves do you have trouble pulling?

Well, none really.

But I find in Capcom Anniversary collection, it feels more 'natural' when pulling off moves. I guess more 'responsive' is the best word to use.

Does the PSP trailer not advertise any release window for that version? I'd rather get that, even if I have to pay twice as much...

the PS2 version is listed as "Back Ordered" at Gamestop.com, though there appear to be 7 copies available between my local stores.

ill grab this sucker later on this week most likely.
