IGN reviews Pirates! (PC)

Whew. Thought I'd have to punch somebody. Picking this baby up immediately!

Don't forget to switch out the ballroom dance music with the mp3s of your choice. I, for one, will be using "Easy Lover" by Phil Collins and Philip Bailey.

Is there a demo? Or one planned? I never played the original, but you guys splooge over it enough and I want to see what it's all about.

That makes it sound like I want to play the demo to see if I want the game. That's not it. I want to see if my PC can run it, I'l get the damned game if it can.

Pirates! is unlike any other game in the current PC catalog. Unless you hate fun, you'll love it.
Wow, a good quote from IGN? Who slipped that in there!?! ;P

Anyone know the system specs? I'm more amped for this than Half-Life 2.

Steve's quite a good writer, actually. He is also living my dream, in that he gets to write crap about videogames, but he doesn't have to live in San Francisco to do it.

DFS.

Thank god, i was so afraid that this game was going to turn into another Half-life 2/Doom 3 disapointment.

That is such a cool feature. I will use Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear the Reaper. :D

Is this anything like that old PC game where you were a pirate and went to towns and did stuff and got into sea battles and stuff?

Yes. Also there is fencing and courting of maidens. :D

I hope this isn't boring like all those other Sid Meier games.
*AHEM*

Sea Dogs was essentially a remake of Pirates, plus/minus a few features (no land battles, had set storylines, etc), as well... I put a lot of hours into that one.

Damn, coming out on Monday too. Damn damn damn... good thing I took vacation all next week. I think I'll get Pirates before HalfLife2 :D

Gah, unless I manage to beat Half Life 2 by monday, even that will get sidelined for Pirates. Yaaaar is right.

Woah... I didn't realize this was out so soon...

Man, I need a better video card. Don't know if it will run on a GeForce2MX... maybe it will, but I guess either way, it'll be pretty weak performance.

EDIT: Might wait and see what sort of reqs. "The Movies" has and do a catch-all upgrade (for HL2, too!)

WTF? Even the niche games are coming in strong. This is insane.

This is a niche game? Once upon a time Pirates ruled the mighty PC seas... Alas, it seems those times have drawn to a close.

I wouldn't call anything Sid Meier makes niche... he's very well respected in the PC community and since the PC market is not casual most of you sales are going to come from people who recognize the brand.

I got this today. The Collector's edition has a video about the making of / a cruddy paper map / the original Pirates! Gold for Win 3.1 and some custom graphics. It's also on a DVD. Seems to make little difference which you go for.

I installed it & tried to play on my work computer, which is rather lousy. It ran & I was able to create my character & get onto the ocean. It crashed after a minute or two of sailling though. I don't blame the computer though (it's below the system requirements -- on board graphics card, etc). Looks to recapture the feel of the old game, from what I've seen thus far.

No, it comes in a cardboard sleeve. :-/

The cd key is written in the inside of the manual cover. I couldn't find it at first.

You have to have the DVD in the drive to play :-/

The pirate in this game is a girly pirate

Wheres his peg leg?
His parrot?
His pirate hat?
His eye patch?

ALL HE HAS IS A PUFFY SHIRT AND A SWORD

Arrrrgh... The copy protection on this game keeps insisting I am using a backup copy of the game. It won't let me launch it even.

Pirates, indeed. :-(

Do you have a virtual drive with alcohol or daemon tools or something running?

That might cause it..
