IGN continues to be on the island of irrelevancy.
Such an irritating list. Mass Effect 2 is great, but good Lord #6? No way. Hades wasn't the most amazing game to me. It was doing what other games do, but it resets your progress when you die. It had cool art, but I liked Transistor more. Breath of the Wild is the most accessible, but it had the worst dungeons out of any Zelda game. They must really want to look good to Nintendo.
San Andreas? that can play like an old outdated PS2 game, which it is. The idea is to remove old games that don't play well today. What a terrible list.
V better than IV or San Andreas?
Hades at 13? Above SoTN?
D II at 49? What?
Also, no way Zelda is N1. That's just a click bait, but hey... I clicked, so um... GG, IGN.
How is A Link to the Past outdated? They can't say they are trying to remove the games that rely on influence and historical impact and then place A Link To The Past on number 4. That game is completely outdated, no matter how awesome it was back then. It's fucking ancient.
To look good in the video game scene. It may not make sense to some people, but Nintendo is king in the video game world. From past to present. I don't think they want to look bad, especially with how big Nintendo gets with Zelda and other franchises. I think putting BotW at #1 is proof of that. They obviously can't criticize it enough to take it out of its top position.why would they suck up to Nintendo? what would they gain?? MS is the one with tons of $$$$. Sony is the big conglomerate. EA, Activision, Rockstar are the ones buying their ads.
Its combat is button-mashing, not much to it but simple timing, no checkpoints, its gameplay has been reproduced a thousand times better at this point. It has a brilliant legendary art style, fantastic soundtrack, but it plays like the old top-down action game it is.How is A Link to the Past outdated?
The combat is simple yeah, but the game's not about the combat, but about exploring, finding secrets and solving puzzles, and I think the game really shines when it comes to all that. Also bosses (and some enemies) require you to use items, so it's not always that button mashy. Its combat is button-mashing, not much to it but simple timing, no checkpoints, its gameplay has been reproduced a thousand times better at this point. Well I know this this is 100% subjetive but I think ALTTP blows those games out of the water. The Witcher 3, The Last of Us 2
IGN's Top 100 games list encompasses the best of the best throughout history, spanning generations of consoles, PCs, handhelds, and more. Our list last saw a major update back in 2019, and since then, there have been several games released that deserved to be added. And just as importantly, we looked at the totality of the top 100 as it stood, and asked ourselves a few key questions, leading to some beloved games being dropped off, and other games we previously missed being added to the ranking.
Games added to our top 100 have to measure up to a few key metrics: how great a game it was when it launched, how fun it is to still play today, and how much any given game reflects the best in its class. While past versions of this list have put a big emphasis on a game's impact and influence, we've essentially taken that out of the equation, as many games that left a mark and inspired future developers may not stand the test of time and be all that fun to play right now. Or, quite simply, they may have been surpassed by other games.
You can head to IGN to check out the full list in exhaustive detail, and we encourage you to check it all out for more context. With all of that said, IGN's list reflects the current staff's opinions of what are the 100 best games of all time - a collection of games that have continued to captivate us with their stories, wow us with their revelatory approach to game design, and set the standards for the rest of the industry. Here are the top 10 of that list.
Looks familiar
Aint no nostalgia. I'd rather play any mario than bloodborneBloodborne would like a word...I cant wait for the era where nintendo games are no longer voted in off nostlgia alone. Give me MGS snake eater over super mario any day.
The combat is a huge part of the game, and a lot of the puzzles are too vague and have been outdated by more refined clues and player direction in modern game design. It's not even comparable. The combat is simple yeah, but the game's not about the combat, but about exploring, finding secrets and solving puzzles, and I think the game really shines when it comes to all that. Also bosses (and some enemies) require you to use items, so it's not always that button mashy.
What's wrong with you? Link to the Past is still great. I would have much less issue with it being #1 than I do with BotW. LTTP is the best Zelda game still and one of Nintendo's best games ever. They can't say they are trying to remove the games that rely on influence and historical impact and then place A Link To The Past on number 4. Snake eater? why not MGSV?Bloodborne would like a word...I cant wait for the era where nintendo games are no longer voted in off nostlgia alone. Give me MGS snake eater over super mario any day.
Ah right you are, missed that, damn NYE discombobulation!Ocarina is #34. Which is strange considering they're one of the publications to give it a perfect 10 and mention its greatness time and again.
Super Mario Galaxy was their Game of the Year AND Game of the Generation and it's not even on the list... lmao.
Damn, I forgot about that horrible list, and by one of the most popular and once credible music sources. Puts things into perspective here, lol.Ah right you are, missed that, damn NYE discombobulation!
Agreed, just like the rolling stone magazine new top 500 having some total crap at the top, can't abide by these things.. portal 2 higher than all but one game in history? Fuck off...
It's historically one of Nintendo's best games, but that doesn't mean it automatically plays well in 2021. Just the scrolling of the screen as you move around in the overworld is too much of an issue by today's standard. The lack of checkpoints and having to re-tread ground when you die is outdated too. Tons of things you can point at that could be better if they made it today. What's wrong with you? Link to the Past is still great. I would have much less issue with it being #1 than I do with BotW. LTTP is the best Zelda game still and one of Nintendo's best games ever.
And it holds up great to this day (and yes, I have played it start to finish within the last year).
BoTW is an overrated walking simulator that is a great prescription for insomnia. A 7 of 10 at best. Come at me bruvs with your witty retorts and essays that rebuke me plz, I want your tears to drip. I espeicaillay want the bruvs to explain how the game doesn't include ubisoft towers.![]()

This stuck out to me... It's a terrible game.Rise of Tomb Raider? Come on man.
I wouldn't expect that much of a graphical increase in the sequel. I expect it to be similar with the additional benefits of years of experience with the Switch and optimizations to that engine.Btw, think BotW will run on playable framerate on Switch 2?
Ew. You are a sack of shit. Thread ban me whatever but this guy makes me want to puke. And i don't give a shit about Reeeeee values. This is what happens when you let emotional female gamers have a say. FFS.
