(IGN) Xbox U.S. Console Unit Sales Just Reached an All-Time November Low

Wasn't this an all time low for everyone since 1997 or something like that?
Yeah, since 1995. 30 year low.

PlayStation was down 40% despite having black friday deals and being #1 for the month. PS5 sold less than PS3 did during the holidays years ago.

I really hate this. Nintendo is in its own world and Xbox existing leaves Playstation without real competition which is bad.
You mean like the PS1 and PS2. Xbox has not been a competition since 2013. And overall a negative influence on Playstation like paying to play online, releasing exclusives on PC and live service push.

Career moment for Mr. Spencer!

His final judgement will be next year.

More than one of…

Halo: Campaign Evolved
Gears of War E-Day
Fable
Forza Horizon 6

…needs to be a big success across multiplatform.

If they do well then their third-party shift can be deemed a success and Phil will get the plaudits. If not expect heavy layoffs at these studios, further closures and Phil gone.

I expect Halo to do well enough financially. It was cheap to make so hard to lose money on a project like that. Gears I don't know. It didn't seem to sell that well even on PS so I wonder if maybe the franchise just isn't seen the same as it once was. Fable who knows. Forza should do well but they also screwed up motorsport so who knows.

The one problem that this graphic shows is how prices are affecting sales for sure. Stuff is getting too expensive for the GP.

Also Xbox flopping means one less brand of consoles around.

That said, i feel like people exaggerate when they say the industry is down entirely.
When the industry peaked in 2008 you had these consoles on sale:
Sony: PS2, PS3, PSP (yes PS2 was still selling millions in 2008)
Nintendo: Wii, DS
Xbox: Xbox 360

6 pieces of hardware. All of them with exclusive content. Now we have...2. And one of them doesn't have lots of exclusive games anymore. Of course that's going to affect the market. Now we have Nintendo with a hybrid console, Sony left the handheld market in 2014 and Xbox gave up on consoles. Of course you won't see growth in terms of units sold. But can we say we have less people playing on consoles because consoles sell less? How many of those people in 2008 had more than one of those 6 consoles? Hell how many of GAF had all 6?

Brands sell less consoles because they have less hardware and choices available but that doesn't necessarily mean that it has less players. In fact, Sony and Nintendo have bigger MAU than ever and make more money than ever. So the business is doing good.

I think this sort of data needs to be analysed with some nuance. Things aren't black and white like that.

I honestly thought we already hit the all time low, I don't get how they dodged it as long as they did considering the overall current performance of the brand.

Good. Except for a brief time with the 360, Microsoft's time in this business has been an unmitigated disaster.

Hmm, I loved the original Xbox.

Halo 1/2, PGR 1/2, Fable, Ninja Gaiden, KOTOR, Sega's exclusives, excellent Doom and Half-Life 2 ports.

Powerful hardware, great controller and despite being paid, Xbox Live was a million miles ahead of PSN.

I honestly cant see them releasing another console with how things look right now for them. It makes utterly no sense with no support, no exclusives and ridiculous pricing that has pushed most of their base away. RIP Xbox.

how the fuck is PS5 40 percent down?

theyve had record black friday sales and 0 competition from Xbox and its 40 percent down year on year?

Is that right?

Gaming is not having a good time.

The smart way to distribute consoles 5+ years after release is put out price decreases. The series x is a durable machine, people beat up on Microsoft for increasing the price, game pass ultimate price increase and franchises like halo, gears and Forza haven't done a great job.

You couldn't make a negative Xbox post without throwing the PS5 in there too could you? You tried but you just couldn't bear it! 😂

Shows these guys haven't reached the acceptence stage yet that Xbox is solely accountable for their current standing and business failures and by projecting the same failure on Sony they soften the blow emotionally.

A psychological defence mechanism observed across gaming forums, social media and gaming industry.

Phil Spencer isn't failing

When deciding to go third party they knew it would kill the Xbox console business and proceeded anyway.

Phil's job is to sell as many games in as many places as possible now.

Xbox Series is being left to rot.
Yes, he [and his team] did. The reason they're going 3rd party is they weren't generating enough revenue under the prior strategy, led by Phil Spencer.

Now Phil Spencer is going to lead Xbox under the new PC strategy? Good luck. That's incompetence by MS leadership to leave the XBOX team in place.

Estimates for November are around 100-150k

If all console hardware sold 1.4+ million, how could the Xbox Series console have sold 100-150k, if the PS5 sold around 725K, the Switches sold 500K, and the NEX was in 3rd place at an estimated 200K? O onQ123 what's going on here with the math?

My quick guess would be that they subtracted 70% from the hardware numbers when the 70% should have been subtracted from the dollar amount & should have also accounted for the price hike which would mean the units sold was lower.

Okay, that's where my mind went to but didn't know if I was going crazy. It seems like the Xbox Series number should be under 100K. Probably between 50-80K.

He's failing and has been since he got the job.
Deal with it.
