IGN: ZombiU Video Preview

This is what Rich was referring to when talking about Wii U getting its first "killer app"

I will say that I've been impressed with how much variety and fluidity they've been adding to what is a somewhat simple concept. Originally I was worried if this would be the type of game that would be fun for an hour or two but might get repetitive with not a lot to actually do, low variety in objectives, enemies, mechanics, environments, etc. But after playing it some, and seeing more and more, I am impressed to see how much of the concept they are fleshing out and building on top of it. One thing I particularly was pleased about playing is that even the 'set-piece' moments are interactive, and some can be avoided completely depending on how you play, since I was worried some moments in the game looked overly scripted in early gameplay videos.

While the proof will be in the pudding, my interest and enthusiasm for this game has grown warmer over time.

Good to hear if you die you don't start the game over. You start with a new survivor from the general area you died with none of the equipment or stats you earned.

Gotta say, Rich knows how to hype someone up for something. The game DOES look good, but I'm not much of a survivor-horror guy. I hope the game does well so Ubisoft can make more quality games like this (assuming it is quality in the end :P).

"Of all the Wii U launch games, ZombiU is shaping up to be the absolute must have title."

This game manages to look better each time I see it. Some very impressive lighting effects going on.

Might not be a day one purchase, but I'll be looking to get it by the end of the year for sure.

Yes. You have to go back to where your previous survivor was to get your gear back. Much like how they did in Demon's Souls/Dark Souls.

I got to play this game too, and it truly is an awesome game. I'd say it's a better Resident Evil game than RE6.

Perfect. Day 1.

Control issues kept popping up here and there when people posted impressions. Good to hear that some of that has been looked at and improved

Red Steel; never forget.

This is always brought up, it's funny.

Red Steel was a completely different case. The press didn't get to actually play it until near the launch of the Wii. The hype was all completely based on pre-rendered footage and other stuff I'm pretty sure.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah, when you die that character dies, and you play as a different survivor from there on out. The game had perma-death of that character.

Um....not sure I like this. Totally takes the fun out of looting. I don't want to play a game scared as crap that I'm going to die and loose everything.

"Cool new shotgun!!" Surprise attack...die.

stop this shit seriously. there is no comparison between the 2 - at all.
The hype comparison; not the game.

They are paid to hype launch games. Don't believe his hype.
If he gave 7.9 to RE6. I'm not sure what to believe from Rich

Interesting concept, too bad it's on Wii U though. I'd buy this in a second if it was on PS360 as well.

Zombi360 or something, I dunno.

I really hate how doors magically close and items just disappear when you interact with them. My only gripe with the game, as it looks cheap as hell. Hyped beyond that.

I was thinking the same exact thing, I like that they kept improving on it over the development cycle. I went from interested to picking this up with the system.

Yeah, you can't really forget Red Steel BUT the buzz from actually playing it actually seems to be very good. I do kind of expect we'll still see signs of it being rushed though, probably some unpolished areas or relatively little content, but hopefully it's nothing serious.

My hype slider just slid up. Game looks awesome, also our first look at a load screen with those subway map stuff.

Good to hear the game doesn't let up.

It's not even remotely similar. Red Steel was a POS even before it came out. No one hyped it as an amazing game or anything.

Now on topic, the collision detection seems much much better. Before the zombies didn't react specifically to the part they were hit, but now they do.

I'll believe a non-biased source as opposed to IGN.
They only post "positive" previews if they get it first/exclusive.

Red Steel hype was for the motion controls, which ended up being horrible and glitchy.

You're right. When press did get to play the impressions were negative right away I believe as well. Gameplay impressions for ZombiU have been positive all around and those keep getting more positive with each new demo/build.

it looks and sounds incredible. my decision to spend more and secure a pre-order on the zombi u console bundle has been vindicated after watching the preview.

Is the preview using the final shipping version? Because I can see quite a lot of jaggies.

I think you are able to hunt down yourself as an zombie and kill it for the gear.

I love the comparisons with Dark Souls. I think is great that, just like in the aforementioned game, there seems to be a story in ZombiU, but it's rather vague and you learn it by exploring the game world.

You can kill the zombie that your dead character turned into and get all you collected before.
