9.1!!

http://xbox.ign.com/articles/578/578647p1.html

9.5 Presentation
Excellent intro, invisible tutorial, navigation tools and narrator (Fiona). Well done in all respects.

9.0 Graphics
A little pop-in and touches of slowdown, but overall, a great effort. Quite polished, with noticeable special effects and bloom lighitng.

9.0 Sound
Classical, military and choir themes create a surreal soundsape. Distinctive sound effects and great voice acting.

9.0 Gameplay
Solid open-design stuff with the emphasis on big guns, tools, and vehicles. Lacking in story or character, but big on action and explosions.

9.0 Lasting Appeal
Not online, cooperative or multiplayer, but this 20-plus romp is filled with replay value and tons of areas to explore; it's 30-plus hours if you want everything.

9.1 OVERALL

Xbox GoTM! Can't wait!!! :D

IGNXbox is the worse site ever. I will never forgive them for giving WWF Raw a 9.2 and then doing the same for the sequel. I can't believe i bought an xbox for that shit.

I just watched some videos of the game, and a 9.0 for graphics? They're clean I suppose, but these reviewers really need to start putting shit in perspective.

9.1 from IGNXbox is more like 6.8

so far

Gamespy 1/8/2005 5 out of 5 100.0%
IGN 1/10/2005 9.1 out of 10 91.0%
Electronic Gaming Monthly 2/1/2005 8.67 out of 10 86.7%
GMR Magazine 2/1/2005 8 out of 10 80.0%
TeamXBOX 1/10/2005 9.1 out of 10 91.0%

6.8? yeah right.

Is Mercenaries on PC or is it PS2/Xbox only? I hadnt heard of this game until the AWESOME tv spots.. now I want it.. but Im about to finish up building my new PC once I get some more parts in... so I'll get it for that if I can.

Same here, ever since then I have NEVER taken a review from IGN seriously.

probably ignxbox feels obligated to have something up in the 9 range when igncube has a big name title to review. :lol

They could give the rest of the xbox exclusives 1/10 and they would still sell more xbox games than gamecube games.

Actually the highlighted ones are the one to be taken seriously (and no, not because they're the lowest scores). IGN and TeamXbox have fanboys doing the reviews, and Gamespy sometimes overates certain games. And btw you lost all your sense of humor in this thread. What's up with that?

By this kind of logic, cube.ign (for mario sunshine) and ps2.ign (for ffx2) should be eliminated from gamerankings.

Cube.ign has the biggest fanboys known to man.
All you can ask for is that a review is well written, states an opinion and is critical. I find it hard to believe that these sites would just give out great scores because they are fanboys, after all they have to play and finish the games, so if they suck then the reviews would follow suit.

I'm totally with you man on this one.

Actually there's a huge difference. Yes they are fanboys and they love Nintendo but it's quite the opposite of what's happening with XboxIGN. They always critisizing Nintendo and their scores are pretty objective (notice I said pretty objective not objective). XboxIGN's editors on the other side are huge suck ups who could give a 9 to any first party MS game without even playing it. Actually after reading some of their infamous reviews I could swear they didn't play these games.

You know there isn't some sort of law stating only one awesome game can come out in a month.

This game is going to be one of those under the radar gems. The demo is fantastic. I've played the demo longer than I have most games.

I see where you are comming from, there are some shocker reviews and one of those reviewers has since left xbox.ign, the other one has gotten better.

Its all about opinions, games like wreckless, raw, raw 2, doaxbv, segagt, blinx, tao-feng were majorly over-rated in my opinion. But i also reckon they got games like halo 1+2, rsc1+2, PGR2, Top Spin, crimson skies and amped spot on. In the middle of GS and IGN never fails for me a gamer.

Ughhh, every damn IGNXBOX review thread always degenerates into a flame fest for or against the site.
Can you blame people though? There are lots of reviews on that site that make them look like a complete joke.

Next time a game you're interested in gets a great score at IGN XBox, I'd suggest making a thread titled something like, "Mercenaries gets awesome reviews, text inside!"

And then show the scores from IGNXBox, Gamespy, EGM, etc. If someone sees a 9+ score from IGNxbox alone, many people are going to completely discount or disregard it, but when you see a bevy of sites giving the same scores (and the game isn't DRIV3R), then it's hard to questions the credibility of the overall concensus.

There are a lot of reviews on every site you could use for an example against them.

Anyway, you don't have to take my word for it or IGNs on the game. Play the demo.

I got bored with Mercenaries after about 3-4 hours' play. Bear in mind, I dislike the GTA games passionately, but I found myself enjoying Mercenaries a lot more than GTA until the pointlessness (and the ridiculous camoflauge rules) of it all set in.

Not as many. And other sites are notoriously known for underscoring games. IGNxbox doesn't do this. They may not give terrible games amazing scores, but come on:

Wreckless: The Yakuza Missions 9.0
True Crime: Streets of L.A. 9.0
GUNVALKYRIE 9.0
NHL 2002 9.0
WWF Raw 9.1
WWE Raw 2 9.1
Fable 9.3
Deathrow 9.3

Now I'm not saying games like Deathrow or Fable are bad games or anything, but the way I see it, utterly amazing games (ie Halo) = 9.7+, really great games = 9.4 - 9.6, great games = 9.1 - 9.5, pretty good games = 8.5 - 9.0 for IGNXBox.

You can't blame people for viewing their scores with an extremely critical eye. It's the same with GameSpot, except the opposite. When a game gets 7.9 at GameSpot, people think it has the chance to be a really good game, since GameSpot is considered overly critical when it comes to their scores. So when a game on GameSpot, like Resident Evil 4, gets a really high score, people know it's good. When a game at IGNXBox, like Conflict: Vietnam gets something like a 6.7, people know it's probably not worth it.

I'm just saying, if you really want to positively promote this game, and I can understand why you would, I'm interested after watching a couple videos, you should't use IGNXBox as your sole hype-anchor.

Yikes. You really don't want to give up on this issue, huh? It isn't my anchor. I've posted about the game in the official thread, and I've posted about playing the demo and the gamespy review in this thread and the official thread.

Just wait a couple days and stay tuned to the official thread.

My review of Mercenaries is in the last issue of XBN.

I also gave it a 9.

You love this shit, huh?

Really don't want to give up on this issue? What the fuck? I responded to your post, just like you responded to mine.

And that's fine if you've already posted in the official thread and posted gameplay impressions in another. I was referring to this thread, in which you quoted IGNXBox's score and nothing else, and finished with the words "XBOX GOTM".

One of the few places that actually scored the game correctly ;)
Ugh, you could've dropped an XBox controller in a tub of grease and the player's ability to control the player and camera wouldn't change. But the first level of shooting alien bugs, jumping on giant mushrooms, and then shooting more alien bugs was a hoot!!

Seriously. I think IGN Xbox overrates pretty a whole lot of exclusive games for Xbox, but for the majority of them, you can make reasonable arguments that justify their score. WWF Raw however, is just completely inexcusable. That game was one of the most broken, awful games I have ever played and I am as hardcore as a wrestling fan gets. 9.1 is absolutely absurd for that POS.

Back on topic, the Mercanaries demo was pretty good. My friend can't stop jizzing himself over this game.

That was one reviewer who doesnt do reviews anymore. Hil and Doug are spot on the money. Kwaiser was even better.
