This is funny considering I listen to a lot of iHeart Radio ad talk about how they dont want your money and say dont worry about how we get money.

They own none of the radio stations here, the market here isn't big enough for the all seeing eye to destroy

Those are the biggest stations in Columbus more or less, 97.9 WNCI is the highest rated station in Columbus and one of the highest rated stations in the US.

Be interesting to see what happens with this

Long live independent radio!

For those curious, radio stations get their money these days from selling group-ads. Basically if you want to buy a spot on the radio, it's not like you just buy a spot for 30 seconds at a certain time. You buy a package of radio ads that appear on all of their stations, and they promise you that you'll get good ad time.

Then they'll try to sweeten the deal with a billboard or TV or newspaper ad.

I had to listen to these guys trying to sell me radio ads all the time. They would walk in and you would think they actually worked for the radio station wanting your business...and the next thing you know you're listening to them blab on about how they want you to buy their ads.

Wow, I had no idea iHeart was Clear Channel.

So basically, Mit Romney killed Clear Channel?

That would be ironic since Clear Channel are huge Republican supporters and have a bad reputation because of the right wing stations they own.

In a way, Mitt and Bain did America a favor.

Heh, iHeart sounds like a harmless internet app. No sympathy for Clear Channel.

yea fuck clear channel. They shutdown rock 101 klol in houston, which was the best rock station in houston playing everything from classic rock to alice in chains and metallica.
they more recently shutdown 93.7 the arrow and made it rap/hip hop. Theres now one classic rock station and one alt rock station in houston.

I always knew that Clear Channel was behind the iHeartRadio app/service, but I never knew they had completely rebranded the entire company. Man the "Clear Channel" name really became poison, didn't it?

How the mighty have fallen!

Clear Channel were awful! Horrible concert practices and they destroyed hundreds of local radio stations,

So many conservative radio stations lecturing Americans about living beyond their means I need to call about this.

Fuck Clear Channel. Killed the local DJ.

There's an iHeart Radio app on PS4 (I think PS3 as well but don't quote me).

6 Billion in debt?

LOL.

It's more than just a radio station. They own over 800 radio stations in the United States:

Daaaaaaaaang

Not to make light of what could surely be an acrimonious job loss for many people, but does this mean some of the godawful fucking billboards that clutter up every square inch of America will go away?

No. They will be bought by CBS or Orange Barrel

Looks like a large number of them are illegally constructed and maintained anyway, so even if every billboard provider went bankrupt overnight it's not like the city cares enough about it's own appearance to enforce demolition.

I'm trying to figure out how you could listen to an iHeartRadio station and not know it was clear channel.
Because they never say Clear Channel and I don't keep up with corporate name changes. I also don't listen to the radio often, so maybe I just missed some clear channel ads at some point.

the death of clear channel. good.

they killed radio with their consolidation practices, and now it looks like they overextended and it was all a scheme.

I used to listen to a ton of AM radio. Clear Channel came in and fucked everything up. They turned our best local talk radio station into a piece of shit 24/7 news station. All they do now is repeat the same news stories every hour. iHeart can suck it.

Good riddance. Ruined the only station I listened to in college. Foo fighters/Nirvana/STP/Smashing Pumpink are not classic rock you idiots.

Actually, it kind of is.

In the 90's, Classic Rock was from the 60's and 70's.

Today, 80's and 90's Rock is that same age.

The Texas lawsuit comes as iHeartMedia begins to grapple with ways to address its massive debt load that totals $20.6 billion, including $8.3 billion maturing in 2019. The debt load largely stems from a 2006 leveraged buyout led by Bain Capital Partners LLC and Thomas H. Lee Partners LP.

Mitt Romney style vulture capitalism strikes again!

In all seriousness, I don't really know how radio stations are viable anymore. Even run barebones, I can't imagine that in a world where people can mostly just listen to what they want to using any number of apps that anybody would prefer listening to the radio.

Now 80's and 90's Rock is that age.

Pre50's = old-timey

50's = oldies

60's-70's = classic rock

80's = new wave

90's = dank jams

And 00's is 00's and new music is shit, just like it always was.

I had that revelation lately as well and it blew my mind. I was listening to Nirvana in 1993 AND Led Zeppelin was classic rock. Zeppelin albums from the 70s. It's a weird thing to accept....
