Ok guys... my mom is moving into an apartment and we have to ditch everything in our house and create everything anew, at least pertaining to electronic toys (read: my computer). Anyways, she's only just recently got her phone connection, and doesn't have TV or internet yet. I'm wondering if any of you have any clues or tips on what you think she should do, and if you do please feel free to enumerate them right away.

Basically, I'd love to get a simple internet connection but if the prices make it necessary, I'd be willing to do something like the SBC plans, where they offer phone+internet for a decent price. I'm looking at keeping things as cheap as possible, but also avoid dialup, too (cuz its just so hard to enjoy TEH GAF on dialup). I'm in the midwest (michigan) so a lot of the local areas out west probably won't cover us (so if Pacific Bell is offering a really sweet deal, well, you don't have to mention it.)

any help you could offer would be cool. Thanks!

Well, if Comcast supports your area, spring on their deal through Best Buy (if you have one of those around you). Sign up through Best Buy (like I did about 2 weeks ago), and you get :

1) Six months at $20 a month
2) You have to initially pay for the cable modem (around $80) and self-install kit ($15), but you get mail in rebates for both of them. You also get a mail in rebate for a $75 Best Buy gift card, and a $20 Photo Lab Card from Best Buy.

This deal f'in rocks, let me tell you.

SBC DSL is now only 14.95 and I only pay about 13 dollars a month for the phone line.

I could throw you a referal code in which I would get 25 bucks if you sign up for SBC DSL :D
