I'm Six Years Dry And Fell Off The Wagon Tonight AMA

What I've learned (the hard way unfortunately) is that alcohol becomes a damn serious issue when you're starting to drink it alone, just by yourself. It's an obvious sign but let's be honest, we all ignore it at the begining, and before you notice, you're in a deep shit. Also - being sober for the rest of your days is an impossible task that only puts on a serious weight on your mental health, and does nothing but only builds stronger craving with each day.

So nowadays I follow the simple rule to never ever drink alone, that's the whole secret. Because being sober even at you own birthday party, new year's eve, any family meeting, friends reunion etc. makes you question where's the fun in this whole thing called life?

Been drunk for the last couple of years, should make for a good thread when I`m sober! :messenger_grinning_squinting:

Seriously, congrats on doing 6 years!

Thanks. The whole me staying dry was a personal choice. I just got sick of hangovers, so I thought I would nip it in the bud before it became a problem. As Billy Connelly once said, it's always better to stop when it's your own idea and not to be told by people to stop.

Nothing in particular happened. Just got an itch to go have a few pints. They just hit me like a tonne of bricks though.
I think you're building this up more than ut really deserves.

look at it as a celebration, my man. Congrats for going that long, that’s a god damn feat. Now you have a record to break.

Think of how boring the first game of Tetris is on a new device. Once you set a record, things get interesting. Something to reach for.

We are out here fighting and occasionally losing battles as well.

As everyone else has said.....Just don't pick it up again. Understand, however, that the next few weeks are going to be tough. You reintroduced the whole alcohol thing in your body, and you will need to "quit again."

But, just do that. Quit Again.

Also, it sounds like you weren't a full blown-alcoholic...so take it easy....don't put yourself in boozy situations for the next few weeks...and make a concentrated effort to not have another drink...it will be fine.
