I just decided to go back to school, and I found out I would be best off buying a Mac. The program I am in is Electronic Media Technology, and it will involve heavy audio and video editing. I know I will need Final Cut, that's a given, but what I don't know is which system is better, or does it even matter? Please GAF - help a Mac noob!

I'm not an expert, but last I checked your average Powermac has a few more options for expandability if you choose to do so. God knows what you might want, but if you're in school there's a chance you may need to slap some super hoodie-doo card in there to get what you want done.

I've had an iMac since it came out last october and while it's good and speedy, it's fan because pretty loud after a few months.

If you're going to be doing pro-level audio and video work definitely spring for the PowerMac.

Get a Powermac.

Final Cut uses the CPU for rendering and is MP aware, Powermac' ship with higher clocked 2=2.7 ghz Dual G5 processor's opposed to iMac's single 1.8-2.0 ghz G5. Meaning the Powermac renders 2-3x faster than the iMac's. Also the powermac's has ram expandable to 8 GB's as opposed to iMac's 2 GB.
