Wii has a MUCH better attach ratio than PS3 iirc. 360's is the best though I believe.

Does he still maintain that PS3 will pass Wii? Last I saw him on Bonus Round on their last episode of 2008 he was saying that the Wii has already won, but that the battle is between the PS3 and 360. I think everyone agrees that. My memory may be a little hazy today, but AFAIK he was saying that the Wii has already won.
If he wasn't, then yes, he's on crack.

If anything, the proper analogue for the Ferrari analogy in gaming are those ridiculous $7000 voodoopc/falcon tricked out desktop rigs. Guaranteed they're making a profit on every one of those boxes.

Maybe they would have had more money thanks to a cheap PS3 to burn for Blu-Ray? While still maintaining a strong position in the gaming industry, making a profit, and not losing a bunch of 3rd party exclusives which were crucial for the PS1 and PS2 winning and dominating everyone else. (lot's of speculation, I know, but this is also one possible scenario if Sony didn't sacrifice one of his biggest brands for a new hd format)

where did you check? because last I know is that the Wii had 5.5 games sold per console and the PS3 5.3. That's until September 2008; I don't know if another study is done, but the fact is that the Wii sells a lot more software than the PS3, and their attach rates are really close.

And I don't know why Wii Play shouldn't count. It is a game and people buy it, just like every other game; people like it, because Microsoft has done similar promotions that haven't sold so well.

Last I checked, gaming was a content business. Sony have always had their own hardware division to back them up on it, but it's been about selling you the content for two generations now.

This is the same company who's fans pathetically laughed at the all-too-soon demise of the Dreamcast, as well as ushering in the Dreamcast's downfall with their narrowminded brand loyalty. These are the same people who basically laughed me out of a room when I said that the Wii (then named as The Revolution) would completely DOMINATE Sony in the next gen.

So it would make sense if they face the shame of stepping down from being a major company in Japan, and start the climb back up the hill?

I would only hope they cut the things that are not the benefit for consumers. Sony doesn't need to be a company developing things others are already doing.
