In what movie did you think Jackie Chan was in his "prime"?

I'm going with the first Drunken Master. There was a scene where he was practicing the art of the Drunken Gods; he did this really quick forward flip where he used his head instead of his hands!

He'd probably die if he tried to do it today. :D

The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
Meals on Wheels rocked... I don't know if I would put that at his prime.. just really liked it.

Headflips aren't tough.

His prime was when he had the most control over and the most love for what he did. From 1983-1988, starting with Project A, and ending with Dragons forever. He changed EVERYTHING during that period. Drunken Master 2 was a godsend, but it came out of nowhere. he had a few years of really mediocre work before that was released.

the man was in his 40's in DM2.

I think he was in his prime during the mid 80s, Dragons Forever, City Hunter, Meals on Wheels, Project A 1-2, and ofcrouse All the police story movies. But yea DM2 is his best movie interms of fights.

I would agree with the original Drunken Master, if DM2 wasn't his best movie ever. Drunken Master 2 simply destroyed everything else he's done IMO. Rumble in the Bronz had some nice stunt spots too. Not so much the fighting though. PEACE.

Sadly I don't know a lot of Jackie Chans movies outside of the newer released films for the US market, although I did see a movie on cable called operation Condor, but I'm not sure if it was the 1990 or 1986 one. I remember nazis (I think) and in the beginning him rolling down a mountain-side in a giant inflatable ball thing. That was pretty badass. Out of the flicks I've seen Operation Condor was my favorite.

Armour of God, Drunken Master 2 are great Jackie Chan flicks.

However the top of his game goes to the stunt where he slides/runs 21 stories down the glass building in Who Am I?

That stunt was way fucking out there :D

Seriously... the fact that the man is still running around trying to do his shit to this day astounds the fuck out of me.

Kudos, Jackie. You are an inspiration!

Did anyone see his stunt special thing he had on HBO? It was him in his rehearsal studio with some of the guys on his team. You went through and leared a stunt and a guy did it wrong and then right and you'd see how to do shit. It was pretty awesome.

The Police Story Series

bingo.

i just bought his "new police story" on dvd via ebay.

not a bad flick at all. jackie is still doing some stupid crazy stunts and the end fight
sequence is brilliant. the man still has it and he's pushing 50!

i fell in love with him the night i finally found police story on video at blockbuster.

my jaw was on the floor the entire time i watched it. damn, i don't think anyone will ever surpass his stunt work in that movie.

I still don't get all of the Drunken Master II love. The first one had a lot more action and more entertaining fights IMO. I was actually kind of disappointed with DM2 after seeing the first one and being so blown away by the crazy martial arts and the sheer amount of action too.

Project-A, with the whole bicycle scene.

edit: and the Clock Tower stunt in the same movie was insane

This man is right on.

Physically, Chan may have been more on point younger, but I think the pinnacle of his career came in this movie -- he married broad physical comedy, film references and insane choreography and made magic.

Another vote for DM 2. The fight scene where he uses that small stool as a weapon was just awesome. Also, New Police Story is absolute gold, like the rest of the series.

yet another vote for DM2. BEST KUNG-FU MOVIE EVER!!!! The last fight it self pretty much destroys anything been done or still being done today. All IMO

Drunken Master 2 was his best that I've seen, though it must be said that the fight scene between Chan and Benny Urquidez in "Meals on Wheels" was one of the best ever.

I don't many people actually saw the original Drunken Master.

I like Jackie Chan's attempted acting in New Police Story, but it's a pretty trashy film. It has EEG's taint on it.

other than that, i like police story 1

Jackie Chan in his prime was during the 80's through to the very early 90's. After that it dropped.

DRUNKEN MASTER 2.

Drunken Master and Drunken Master 2 are his best work.

I can't forget about the fight scene in Who Am I though. On the roof top of a skyscraper fighting the two bodyguards...it was just awesome.

Respect. As I mentioned above, the descent stunt on the windows after the fight is a doozy :D

The movie Gorgeous had one of the most amazing fights I've seen Jackie do, even though i think Jackie's opponent Allen sorta out shined even Jackie in that one.

i love drunken master 2. it's without a doubt his best movie in terms of fight choreography ever. i really don't think a movie will beat the fight scenes in it for a long time, if ever. he reportedly spent *months" just choreographing the fights and took *months* to film them(sometimes having hundreds of takes!)

as for his prime though, i go with my earlier pick of the police story films(mainly 1-2)

Agreed. Might be the most spectacular martial arts fight I've ever seen. As far as DM2 goes, I think the best fight was the very first one underneath the trains with the swords...lightning quick and super fluid, yet you see no wasted movements when you observe it closely. Just sick stuff.

I'm gonna have to start digging for some more Jackie Chan DVD's...don't have any of the Police Story flicks yet, which is a disgrace.

I think DM2 was an awesome movie, but I've always been a sucker for Jackie's older movies. Most are pretty corny/horrible, but Jackie is so cyoote in them. ^^ One of the few exceptions is the first DM. I especially agree with what was said earlier: If someone were to go back in time and give a younger Jackie chan the brains and experience of his current self, we'd see some pretty amazing stuff.

I forget where I read it, but I remember it being reported on a very credible news site (CNN, Fox or something similar) that Jackie was actually supposed to be filming a scene on the WTC for his next film on September 11th, but it was canceled due to a delay on the script. o_o

Anyways, I dunno if I'd call it his "prime", but some of my most favorite Jackie Chan films are the romances like Rumble in the Bronx and Cityhunter.

I think he was gonna goto the WTC to scope it out for scenes for a planned movie that morning, but forgot something at his hotel (might've been his camera). The plot? He's a window washer that manages to foil a terrorist plot at the World Trade Center. :lol Truth is stranger then fiction...
