Companies supersize stuff, they get shit for making people fat.

Companies downsize stuff, they get shit for cheating people.

Change is bad.

the problem is that when they shrink the size, they aren't shrinking the price. it's essentially food inflation

Did they think we wouldn't notice? Until about 2003 yogurt came in 8 oz. containers, since then it's been 6 oz.

I went to Trader Joe's this weekend and this is their new yogurt container:

5.3 ounces, not even a regular size. Where does it end? Just raises prices by a reasonable amount each year. It's not just yogurt either, this is happening to cereal, chips and other food items sold by volume.

Trader Joe's is owned by a german company. 150 grams is standard yoghurt packaging size here.

That's true, but TJ's outsources many of their products to local (U.S.) manufacturers. It's not so much the size, as the trend toward shrinking sizes. Here's the same yogurt a few years ago:

And when they can't get away with it, they try to go around with it, like with 2L sodas and 12 pks. The 8 Packs of Soda more or less failed, but now they are trying to push 1.5L bottles of Soda.

You seel this all over. Companies are fighting reduced profit and they can either charge more or try to give less and slide it past you.
What I keept seeing as well is suddenly the same price something has been forever is now the sale price. BS!

to give an idea

when i started my job... 12 pks of coke/pepsi were basically regularly 2 for $6 or $3.50 each - a hot sale price was $2.49 or 2/$4

now... they are regularly 2/$10 or $5.50 each... and 2 for $6 is a hot price

I'm not even 30 yet and I already feel like a senior "coke was this much back in my day"

The one question though is when will it stop? I notice it on diaper packages the most because of poor sell through and I sometimes have up to 3 packages in stock with differing quantities... Will it eventually get down to selling a single piece of the product? One diaper for $20? They've shrunk their diaper packs down so much that the "jumbo" size isn't actually jumbo anymore, it's very small... And mega / super mega have essentially replaced it for extravagantly higher prices
